ARCHIVED Dixie Stampede In Orlando Opinion Question
Guhlia replied to hammondtam's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Will you please post their response after you talk to them? We're planning on going there in two weeks and I REALLY don't want to get sick. I feel yucky enough with this pregnancy. I'd be interested in hearing what they say about the potato. -
ARCHIVED Had A Wonderful gluten-free Pasta Last Night
Guhlia replied to hathor's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey Tom! Need some pasta to go with your Red Bridge? Shopbydiet.com has Orgran pasta as well in case you get a craving. I haven't tried the glutino pasta yet. I don't think I've ever seen it. Maybe I'll have to go hunting for some. I love the Glutino cereals! -
So glad to hear of your great experience. Perhaps we will try a Longhorne on our trip next week.

The easiest way is to not substitute the gluten based foods with high cost imitations. It's much more cost effective to reinvent how you look at eating. Fresh meats, veggies, and fruits are the cheapest things to buy and conveniently they're naturally gluten free. Other things like nuts and eggs are also naturally gluten free. Try to focus your diet around...

ARCHIVED Need Some Help
Guhlia replied to gini's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Spaghetti squash is a vegetable, a squash. When opened it's insides consist of starchy strands very similar in consistency to spaghetti. When covered with marinara (or other spaghetti sauces) it makes a meal very similar to traditional spaghetti. -
ARCHIVED Dixie Stampede In Orlando Opinion Question
Guhlia replied to hammondtam's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Well, my husband says he thinks the potato was one of the things I could have. But I don't think so. Anyway, guess I'm not so sure as I thought I was. Hopefully when you call you can get some answers. I think I had to avoid more than three things though. Maybe not. Ugh... My memory is so bad these days. -

I've found the Bionaturae pasta to be no more expensive than Tinkyada, but certainly no where near as good. I have two bags of it sitting here that I got for my birthday that I just don't know what to do with. We don't like the stuff. It has a really odd texture, I thought. It's regularly $2.99 at shopbydiet.com, I think it goes on sale for about $2... -
ARCHIVED Dixie Stampede In Orlando Opinion Question
Guhlia replied to hammondtam's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Did they serve you potato? Their potato isn't gluten free, or at least it wasn't last year when we went. I didn't have any problems at all after eating there. We're planning on eating there again this year because my daughter loved the show so much last year. Our server even knew which things he could put on my plate as he passed by and didn't even offer... -
Yup, this is the recipe in my avatar. At least for today anyway. Nope, I don't seperate the eggs. I beat them with a hand mixer for a few minutes until they're almost frothy. They turn out phenomenally. I just added sweetened blueberries and whipped cream to the top. Funny, with as nasty as I feel with this pregnancy and as little as I've been able to...

ARCHIVED I'm So Confused
Guhlia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Jerry, so sorry you're feeling so crummy. Going back on gluten for testing has got to be the worst feeling, especially when you KNOW your problem is gluten. Are you sure you still want to go through testing? You do already have the Enterolab positive results. Perhaps your family would accept those as gold if you yourself treat them as such. Just a thought... -

Try shopbydiet.com. They often have Tinkyada on sale for $2.79 a bag. If you order $100 or more you get free shipping if the weight's under 10 lbs. You can sign up for e-mail notices of sales, they change about once a week. They also have TONS of other great gluten free products. -
Woah... Free celiac screening?!?!?! What state was this in? Are they planning on doing it again?

ARCHIVED Need Some Help
Guhlia replied to gini's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At 22 months old you should be able to feed him high fat foods like peanut butter and avacado and cheese. Are there any other suspected intolerances other than gluten? Perhaps you can combine these high fat, nutritious foods with fruits and veggies to increase his weight. Then, you can attempt a gluten free diet while still attempting to bulk him up a little... -

ARCHIVED Great Article In The Boston Globe
Guhlia replied to Moongirl's topic in Publications & Publicity
Thanks for sharing. that's a pretty good article. -
I would call them and speak to the store manager. 613-241-2442 He/she will likely have the best answer for you. Generally plain, unmarinated meat and plain veggies are safe, but ALWAYS check before ordering. If you're really concerned, you may want to invest in some Triumph dining cards for him to take with him. Sometimes when the customer goes the extra...

ARCHIVED Bread Mixes
Guhlia replied to lilmama's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
For bagels I LOVE Kinnikinnik's New York style bagels. They are so good and they make great sandwich bread also. -
Mamaw, Disney is great with special diets. At MGM I highly recommend the Prime Time 50's Cafe. They were insanely accomodating when I was there last time. The chef came out to our table and went over the entire menu with me. They even had gluten free meatloaf! They had rice flour on hand to make chicken fingers as well. The food was decent and the price was...

ARCHIVED Carabbas.. Outback And Bonefish Grill?
Guhlia replied to zachsmom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've eaten successfully at my local Outback many times. I would say about 95% of the time I don't get glutened. When I do get glutened, it's not very badly and I can generally barely tell, just a bit of bloating. Do be careful ordering any salads as they are the easiest to get glutened via cross contamination. I think all of the times I've been glutened it... -
We won't have a microwave in any of our hotel rooms, so taking frozen meals won't help much. I was planning on taking things like peanut butter and wraps and a small cooler with carrot sticks, cooked chicken, fruit, etc. It won't last overnight though. We don't have room for a cooler of any substantial size. Do any other restaurants that are gluten-free...

In two weeks we will be making our yearly trek to Orlando, Florida. YEA!!! Has anyone made this same trip and do you have a list of gluten free restaurants on the way? Last year it was only me that was gluten free so I basically just lived off of McDonalds side salads and apple dippers on the way down and back. This year my daughter is also gluten free and...

ARCHIVED Eating Gluten-free In Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
Guhlia replied to Elijah's Mom's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Walt Disney World in Florida is the best place I've found thus far for gluten free travels. We go once a year, every year. This past year I even went without my family with some friends for the weekend. I ate every meal out and didn't get sick once and I'm relatively sensitive. If you stay at one of the nicer resorts, I believe they will make gluten free... -
ARCHIVED Blood Test Question
Guhlia replied to Heartmum2Jamie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you really don't want to introduce wheat into his diet for the Celiac tests, try some of the following. Malted beverages, such as Goya contain barley. Oat-based cereals, specifically Quaker oatmeal definitely contains gluten. Rye bread and oat bread for sandwiches at lunch. Malted chocolate drinks and malted milk balls for snacks. Barley cereals and barley...
