  1. I don't have any advice on working in a dentist's office, but congrats on the new job. Here's a really nice cooler that would allow you to avoid the office fridge... Open Original Shared Link
  2. Dr. Fine IS a doctor. I would absolutely trust his diagnosis 100%.
  3. Jessica, you should definitely be more happy than worried. Chances are that everything will turn out just fine especially if you adhere strictly to the diet. Many of us had healthy babies before our diagnosis, including myself. I was actually in the throes of Celiac when I got pregnant the first time. We didn't have a diagnosis so I continued eating gluten...
  4. Definitely go ahead and try the diet. The worst thing that will happen is he won't improve. If you really need clinical proof, you could consider doing testing through www.enterolab.com. It's not generally covered under most insurance companies, but it's pretty well respected in the celiac community as being a valid diagnostic tool.
  5. You are certainly NOT a horrible mother. It could have happened to anyone (and has happened to most, if not all, of us). Don't be so hard on yourself. You're still new to this and learning.
  6. How tall are you? 162 is probably not an unhealthy weight for you. If you're really concerned, check with your doctor to find out what HE thinks is the ideal weight for your body type. If you get below that weight, then you can work on bulking up. And yes, going gluten free causes weight loss in some people.
  7. This is the best substitution I've found yet for Eggo waffles. I adapted it from a recipe I used to use. INGREDIENTS * 2 eggs * 1 cup white rice flour * 2/3 cup potato starch flour * 1/3 cup tapioca starch * 1-1/2 teaspoons xantham gum * 1 3/4 cups milk * 1/2 cup vegetable oil * 1 tablespoon white sugar ...
  8. Oh my gosh, my daughter will FLIP if she can eat Mickey Mouse Clubhouse cereal!!!
  9. www.shopbydiet.com... I think they have Bi-aglut and Tinkyada, they have some Schar products too, but I'm not sure if they have Schar noodles. I believe tinkyada is on sale right now.
  10. Peanut Sauce 2 tablespoons smooth peanut butter (JIF or Peter Pan) 2 tablespoons soy sauce (La Choy, check label) 1-2 cloves garlic, minced or chopped 1/4 cup water 1 tablespoon brown sugar juice from half a lemon (can be less, depending on your tastes) I agree with Ursa about getting enough fat and protein. If you already are, your excessive...
  11. Sounds like he definitely could have been a Celiac based on your description. Pennsy Dutch, huh? Are you from PA?
  12. IMHO the Perky-O's have a really funky flavor and aftertaste. If you like Perky-O's I can't see why they wouldn't work in a Chex mix. The frosted Perky-O's would probably be good in the honey sesame mix. You could make your own bagel chips using Kinnikinnick bagels, just cut them into slices and toast them under the broiler with some butter, garlic, and onion...
  13. Like Elonwy said, they're made in a dedicated facility so they're not likely the cause of your mystery glutening. If you do narrow it down to them as the only culprit, you may want to explore other starch intolerances. I believe they heavily use potato and tapioca starch. I could be wrong though.
  14. Some Celiacs never have any symptoms. Your son is in the typical "latent" age period in which symptoms are reduced or go away completely. However, if he has Celiac Disease he is still damaging his intestines by eating gluten, possibly causing irrepareable damage. My symptoms change from month to month when I get glutened. Many times my reactions are completely...
  15. I don't know about conventional testing, but it certainly sounds as though he has a problem with wheat or gluten. If your doctor is really ignorant on the subject and you don't want to switch doctors you could try Enterolab at www.enterolab.com. Many people on this message board have been diagnosed via Enterolab. It's pricey and your insurance company likely...
  16. Oh, Rusla, that's horrible. I'm sorry you're so sick. I know how careful you always are. It sucks when somebody else screws up and you get horribly ill from it. Hopefully this will be a short lived glutening and you'll be back to your fiesty old self in no time. BTW, what's turkish delight? Is it anything like turkish paste? That should technically be...
  17. Nature's Valley makes Corn and Rice Crunch'Ems. You can find them online at www.shopbydiet.com. Just follow your old Chex mix recipe. There's a recipe for Honey Sesame "Chex" mix on the boxes, give it a try. It's fabulous! When I make it I can't keep it around, my family gobbles it down on the first day every time I make it. Yum!
  18. It will be easiest if you cook your own frozen meals. Plus, they'll be healthier and taste better. You could make a large lasagna with Tinkyada lasagna noodles and freeze it in single serving sized pieces. The lasagna is even better reheated than fresh!!! Macaroni and cheese also freezes well. Oscar Meyer hot dogs are gluten free, they're good just dipped...
  19. Pace salsa and Breakstone (Kraft) sour cream are both gluten free. I buy everything Kraft because they will list their ingredients clearly. It makes life easier. Also, planters honey roasted peanuts appear gluten free. I think they're made by Kraft, if so, then they should be safe if the ingredients appear safe. Kraft will clearly list wheat, barley, rye...
  20. Are you in the US? If so, Lea & Perrins worchestershire sauce is gluten free. I use it all the time. Reese's Peanut butter cups are also gluten free as are butterfingers. So, enjoy! As for your household not being supportive.... Who does the cooking? You or them? I would just make gluten free stuff for meals and don't give in. If they want gluten,...
  21. Angie, they should be able to biopsy the tissue next to the DH and get a positive Celiac diagnosis based on that.
  22. I'm certainly no expert, but I remember a post that was on here a while ago that had cigarette additives listed. Wheat and rye were both listed as ingredients... Take it for what it's worth. I've never personally researched the matter.
  23. First let me say that having children is the most fulfilling thing a woman and her partner can ever do. We are expecting our second. Children are wonderful. That being said, your sister obviously is not having fun being a mother. She was very young, much younger than you are, when she had Katie. She probably wasn't ready to make all of those changes in...
  24. Unfortunately, since she's wheat free, she would likely test negative for Celiac via standard testing. There's a chance it would come up positive since she's still consuming barley, rye, and oats, but it seems unlikely. If you suspect Celiac, get a Celiac panel run on her and if it comes up negative you may want to try eliminating all gluten from her diet...
  25. You need to check with each Chick-fil-a also as some do not use dedicated fryers. Ours doesn't.
