  1. Patti - so good to see you back Take it easy Donna -what have you done about your problem with fats? Fats give me severe digestive problems (even 'good' ones) but I don't like the idea of cutting them out totally because they're so important - I know they defend against depression, among other things and that's a big issue for me. The elimination...
  2. Hi Lauralee The discussion about anti-bac stuff is interesting. My mum was always fastidious about cleaning & me & my sis have ended up with loads of allergies. It'll be interesting to see how my DS turns out, as cleaning is not quite so high on my list of priorities!! Susie x
  3. I think the answer will depend on what you eliminate & what you don't (sorry, not very helpful, I know). If you are successful in cutting out something that's causing you problems, you might see great improvements. I guess also, if you eat loads of fruit & veggies on the diet, that might have an impact IYKWIM! I've just started an elimination diet...
  4. Oh Rachel! Glad to hear it turned out constructive. Can't wait to hear more about it How do you feel the day after a treatment? Does it make you feel worse or better in the short term?
  5. Judy, I get the chills too, especially at night, but it's not that frequent. Not sure what causes it. Maybe my elimination diet will show something. Are you hypothyroid? I always wondered if my hypothyroidism was the explanation, but not sure about the trigger. Thanks for keeping us updated about Patti. I'm on day 3 of my elimination diet and my...
  6. Thanks Carla. I will email my dietician now. peace: do you sometimes feel it might be easier to eat nothing at all? When I was researching the whole candida issue, what really confused me was all the different advice as to what you can and can't eat. I don't think I could survive on a strict anti-candida diet, so I really feel for you guys...
  7. Someone here recommended a book called: the complete guide to food allergy & intolerance by Jonathan Brostoff & Linda Gamlin. I bought it from Amazon and it's a very good, thorough & scientific read. It's helped me figure out an elimination diet, with the help of my dietician. It explains all the different ways of testing and the pros and cons...
  8. I've heard lots of people say that about apple cider vinegar, but I always thought vinegar was acidic. Am I just being thick here?! I need to give something a try as my stomach is so sore. I'm taking nexium and antacids (gluten-free ones) at the moment out of sheer necessity, but I know they contain things not allowed on my diet. If I start the vinegar...
  9. I need to go to GNC to see if they've got any supplements that are everything free! The ones I've got from there at the moment (calcium etc), are mostly allergen free but do contain potato starch, which is a no no. Also, I want to see if my stomach symptoms will settle down before introducing supplements, as they have often irritated my stomach in the past...
  10. I'm a UK coeliac Don't know why we have to spell it so strangely lol! Much better in my opinion to spell it silly-yak
  11. (((prayers and hugs for Patti))) Donna, can't wait to hear how your bioset appointment goes Carla, that's interesting about the magnesium deficiency link with chocolate cravings. I pigged out on chocolate at the weekend (very naughty as it makes me depressed) in anticipation of not being able to eat anything much for the next few months. I really...
  12. Rachel - will you be tested for different temperatures of icecream?! Looking forward to hearing how it goes I've started my elimination diet today. I'm rather fed up this evening as DH is eating loads of Christams chocolate. Doesn't quite compare with winter squash and fish lol! I think I need to reschedule my eating habits. I seem to need loads...
  13. My really offensive wind went straight away! DH was very impressed...
  14. I have suffered minor depression on and off throughout my life. It got much worse after having DS, and that was the time my coeliac symptoms got really bad. After trying a lot of different drugs (I get bad side effects with most drugs), I found that cipralex (the UK brand of lexapro) really helped. I think my recovery has had four things contributing to it...
  15. Just driving by to say Happy New Year to everyone
  16. Thanks for your reply Miamia. The thing that I'm so scared of with the elimination diet is my 'relationship' with food. I think I'm addicted to various foods that I'm probably intolerant too and I used to love eating, but like you have to eat almost constantly. It's the mental part that I struggle with - thinking about food all day long. And I haven't even...
  17. Hello all and welcome peacenlove we had a great Christmas coz I cooked lol managed to find some gluten-free stuffing and gluten-free christmas pud and the emal turned out great. Unfortunately.....I woke up on Christmas eve with an infected toe so ended up on antibiotics (it was too painful to walk) and felt totally fogged Christmas day (without...
  18. Rachel - I'm sure you probably explained this pages and pages ago, so sorry in advance for asking - what does the bioset treatment involve? Are they testing to see what you've got problems with or trying to remove those problems? I second Andrea's thanks for explaining about your appointments. It's so so helpful What is the plan for dealing...
  19. My stomach is in a bad way today (ate some cheese yesterday ) and when I went into my office kitchen first thing, a colleague had just been warming up some weetabix. The smell really got me. Yuck!
  20. Hi Stinker. Good to meet you Have we seen you somewhere before?
  21. They look fantastic I don't think I could stomach all those eggs though. Do you think I could replace 2 of them with milk or something else?
  22. I would be asking myself what did the cat eat. My cat will eat almost anything. Probably would eat dust if she got really hungry! We ban her to the kitchen at night. She has a cat flap which leads out to our garden and, on a not irregular basis, we find fluffy 'presents' in the kitchen in the morning. Donna - brilliant picture My update is,...
  23. Hi Mike It's very confusing, isn't it? Especially when an ordinary product can say it's gluten free but still have wheat in it. I'm pretty sure I've been glutened by glutafin's cake mix, which isn't wheat free. I tend to wonder, how many codex items would I have to eat before it becomes bad for me, and why should I try to find out? But, as Nikki says...
  24. Thanks everyone. I think we will have him tested again in the new year. He is complaining of his stomach hurting quite frequently now. I'll let you know how it goes. Susie x PS Nikki - yes please to one of those mince pies
  25. Both myself and my sister are coeliacs. My son was tested a year ago and his bloods came back negative. The drs aren't concerned for him as he's big for his age. He often complains about his tummy hurting and has fairly loose stools on a regular basis, but isn't a sickly child, so I don't know if I'm just being paranoid being concerned about him. Believe...
