  1. bumping the thread to find out the name of the mexican restaurant..
  2. I went there early this year when I first went gluten-free... wasn't that impressed with the selection but I don't know what is there now.. then again, I was avoiding a couple allergens like dairy and soy so my choices were somewhat limited... I know most of the premade foods in the freezer had something in them I couldn't have.. I'm also interested in...
  3. the nutritionist I was going to the first half of this year had an office in NY as well as down here in central jersey... she's actually up at her office in NY (Staten Island it looks like from her business card) every day but one during the week.. her son was diagnosed with celiac disease so she's familiar with it and she's fairly knowledgable about a lot...
  4. I only tried one cereal, cranberry crunch or something, and I have to agree that it was awful.. but the snickerdoodle cookies are very good..
  5. I took depakote ER as a daily preventative for headaches for nearly 2 years prior to trying all this gluten-free/food intolerance dieting... I started out on a small dosage and eventually went up to 1000 or 1500 mg each night.... I didn't notice much difference in the years taking it in terms of reducing headaches but maybe there was some small reduction...
  6. I've had hypoglycemia since I was in middle school and was diagnosed with a GTT when I was in college a few years ago... ultimately, it lead me to learning about food intolerances since I was pretty strictly adhering to a hypoglycemic diet and still not feeling well.. a hypoglycemic diet doesn't have to be all that restrictive... it's pretty much just...
  7. preferably in central jersey but anywhere in jersey is fine... if you know one in philly or ny city and highly recommend them, then I'd consider them as well.. thanks
  8. tiffany, if I remember correctly you took or are still taking topamax as a daily preventative, right? I am considering taking a daily preventative again and topamax is probably number 1 on my list as I've heard pretty good things about it... what are your experiences with it? any side effects you've had or others have had that you know of? I had bad...
  9. unfortunately I'm a philly fan.. I figure that with a little luck, there should be one championship in the next 50 years for either the Eagles or Phillies I only really closely follow the NFL, MLB, and college basketball... I haven't cared much for the NBA since the strike in the late 90s but I still know enough about it and watch some playoff games.....
  10. thanks, I almost forgot about it I haven't written anything on the blog for a month or so since I've been working on my novel again (or at least I'd like to pretend I am)... but I might try and get a column or two up now that football is a couple weeks into the season and I no longer have to watch the phillies once again come up short of the playoffs
  11. your results are pretty similar to mine... I was about 150 for the antigliadin and also 73 for the casein... though if you read the explanation from the website, the value of the numbers is irrelevant (except for the malabsorbtion one) in terms of severity, they are just positive or negative so a 15 and 200 for antigliadin are essentially the same... though...
  12. I don't mind not having soy as much as not having dairy.. but I guess each person has a different preference and just a heads up though you probably either know or would notice on your own but soy is in many cans of tuna.. I was surprised by this (there's often an ingredient of vegetable broth in tuna which contains soy)
  13. if you go through a few pages in this section, you'll find some candida threads... might find some useful information in them.. might help until you get some replies to this thread as for your questions: I've been on a low sugar diet for a few months due to candida... I took an antifungal (SF722) for about 1 and a half months and seemed to have an adverse...
  14. I've been on a really strict elimination type diet for most of the year and I'm starting to expand what I'm eating... I haven't really looked into what is gluten free and what isn't in terms of mainstream products so I was hoping for some suggestions for snacks and different foods (ie. chips, fries, cookies, canned foods, microwave and freezer foods, etc...
  15. what brand omega 3 fish oil do you take? I saw you mention below that some contain soy which I also need to avoid.. I was taking fish oil softgels early in the year for a couple months but stopped and want to start getting omegas again..
  16. most vitamins I've checked out tend to be gluten and dairy free... soy is more what you have to watch out for out of the 3 foods you listed... anything with vitamin E (either a vitamin or food) I'd check with the company to make sure it is not derived from soy... I have a multi-vitamin from Pure that is free of gluten, casein, and soy... as for cal-mg...
  17. anyone eaten at the risotteria who is avoiding a couple foods besides gluten? I saw on their website they mentioned dairy free choices as well as gluten free (and sugar free and vegetarian dishes) so I'm assuming it can't be that hard to get soy-free and egg-free meals as well...
  18. well, it looks like I'm still looking for a GI... the doctor I went to today told me I might have celiac disease and recommended I get the blood test done and possibly the biopsy.. after I told him I had been gluten-free the whole year and wouldn't test positive, he said it didn't matter as it's a blood test and me having been gluten-free is irrelevant
  19. it didn't contain gluten or anything I was suspicious of reacting to... it was a gelcap and just had olive oil, gelatin, glycerin, and water as the other ingredients in addition to the active ingredient, which was derived from castor bean oil... I was anticipating a die-off reaction for a week or 2 but I felt bad most of the time while I was taking it...
  20. for those of you who have taken antifungals, has anybody had a very adverse reaction for more than a couple weeks to an antifungal? I started taking SF722 in late June with only 1x1 the first week... I bumped it up over the next couple weeks until I was taking 2x1x2 per day and I did not feel good while I was taking it... I anticipated not feeling good...
  21. I'm seeing a GI this week in central jersey and I'll post the name afterwards if I'm pleased with the visit... I know a couple people aside from myself were looking for doctors near the shore and monmouth county part of nj
  22. I am also looking for a good GI doctor in this area... you find one? if I get a good recommendation, I'll post it here.. I also want to find a new primary doctor (though I don't need referrals for my insurance), preferrably in Monmouth County, who is familiar with food allergies, celiac, candida, etc.
  23. if pain is in the front of your head, it's possible it could be sinus related.. unlikely but if you have a cold or are more congested than usual, it could be linked to that it's also possible that it could be reduced by massaging certain areas of your body, notably your neck and upper back/shoulder area... if you have blood sugar issues (which I...
  24. trying not to get too off topic, for those with multiple allergies (gluten, dairy, corn, soy, etc.) what lotions do you use for your face or body? I've never had DH so I don't have to worry about that but I figure I should look into changing a couple things I've put off since going gluten-free in January since I'm not quite getting healthy yet.. I looked...
  25. what lab did you use for the food panel test? I'm leaning towards getting a test of 100 or so allergens done through Immunolabs in florida soon.. I'm trying to get it covered through my insurance but wouldn't be surprised if I have to pay out of pocket..
