  1. Pray, do tell us about said corndogs....what, where, etc.
  2. Thanks for those answers....makes sense. Forgot to ask what "refractory sprue" is.....
  3. I found this recipe on the Delphi forum a while back....haven't tried it but it sounds REALLY good. The gal who posted is French-Canadian, and all of the recipes I checked sounded great, actually. Try this link: Open Original Shared Link Let us know if you make them......a beignet could really work a lot of things out for me right now Susan
  4. Hello all, Without doing vast amounts of research...and feeling kind of ignorant about this, can anyone quickly tell me if there's any difference between Celiac, Celiac Sprue, tropical sprue, or just "sprue?" There was a post on here just using the word SPRUE - is that a variation of Celiac, or just another name for it? Thanks! Just trying to...
  5. Well, it must be fun trying.....(this from a girl who's fiance broke up with her right before celiac diagnosis - not a good time! ) Susan
  6. Mon dieu! Lucky you - - - mine is the reverse! Just shows that this disease/diet affects everyone so differently.
  7. What state are you in? Here in California, they really are $8 for four and usually hard as rocks (they're not in the freezer section).....I refuse! Good to know they're good if one's in a pinch, but I am excited about the recipe from Betty
  8. Hard being female, isn't it? I have to say I think I liked my three-day, anemic menstrual cycle more than this!!! But do get your hormones tested, things really do get all out of whack for celiacs. Susan
  9. Forget what I said about the cramps lessening....I'm on, I think, day SIX now and the flow and cramps are as bad as day one! I'v never had periods like this. I guess the malnutrition shuts us down or reduces our flow until we are no longer so malnourished? That does make sense.... Susan
  10. Hi girls, Am wondering if any of you noticed INCREASED menstrual flow after going gluten-free. Mine is now longer and heavier. Of course, I was so severely anemic before....don't know if that has anything to do wtih it. Anywho it is now 5 days (super! ) instead of 3 - 4. Anyone else notice this? Because I think I've read here that some of...
  11. DItto! Shoes, books, jewelry, all fun. FLOUR - not even slightly fun!
  12. Hallelujah, Miss SAmantha, we need you!! You'll be a famous, gluten-free baker inventing the tastiest gluten-free pieces of heaven for us. There are many who bake on this board, and I'm not one of them...I hate to cook. But since that is YOUR passion, I suspect you'll take the time to really develop and get things right and come up with wonderful...
  13. The exact thing happened to me, and I can't tell you how many times I've read this same scenario on this board. I felt unbelievably fantastic for the first 3 - 4 weeks, and just plummetted (I do also have an inordinate amount of stress in my life currently, but still...). Fear not, you will feel better! I have been on the upswing the last few weeks and...
  14. This is the best news in a long while...I had no idea! Didn't even check, haven't had a Reese's for months....I suspect I'm due for a small binge today.... Susan
  15. I can't believe I forgot to post this about L'Oreal on this thread - I did post it somewhere else. I use L'Oreal Enless 8-Hour and it's great. Here's the response I got from them: February 22, 2006 Thank you for your interest in Endless 8 Hour Comfortable Lipcolour. The safety of our consumers is our highest priority. As a global...
  16. Chelsea, so sorry about your grandfather. Sounds like he is a fabulous man....my recommendation is just to lift him up in your prayers, if you're a praying person (not trying to start any caustic religious thread here!)......and see what time does....if he was that strong before, you never know what can happen. As for you - same thing happened to me...
  17. Excellent ideas from everyone above, makes me want to try some backcountry travel again! Also, there is this rice stuff called Mochi from Whole Foods - cut it into small squares and cook it on your stove - fabulous puffed up little pieces of grain, I eat these inserted wtih cheese. Warm and toasty and yummy!
  18. The best thing is, you can pose a question, and within minutes or hours, wonderful people have shared their experiences. You can't call your doctor any time you have a question or an issue, and if you did, he or she would not call you back all the time....so the people here are truly a lifesaver. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}} to all. Susan
  19. You're a brave woman, to handle not only the disappointment, but the defeat as well..... I simply cannot be bothered with making the styrofoam myself......too busy cooking up other disastrous gluten-free concoctions (well not entirely disastrous but I am just feeling very taxed by all of it today and would REALLY like a Pop Tart!
  20. OH my gosh Rachel, have you thought about being, say, a nutritionist or something like that? You have learned SO MUCH the hard way, and could (already do) help so many others.....doctors REEEEAAALLLY don't know everything, sometimes practically anything, and we, the guinea pigs, end up figuring most things out after giving them all of our money!! Susan
  21. you are SO funny!! And by the way FIVE bucks?? Bargain...The gluten-free breads from Whole Paycheck are $8.50 here in California. And when I toasted them, two or three different varieties, they just crumbled. 'Twas a sad day, but not as sad as when I shelled out almost $9 for a double-pack of pizza crusts at same spot....they were like frisbees, only...
  22. This is my favorite of all the gluten-free breads - kind of chewy, like a bagel. I freeze it but put wax paper between each slice before as they stick together. Freezes beautifully and stays soft and chewy!
  23. Ms. Sillyak - - I have been concerned about soy, so hardly eating any at this point, but that just started. I think you were the one that posted some info earlier on soy and I had been following that...who knew!!! And you know what, I think my doctor is kind of sick of me, so I may switch to another - not really liking her too much any more. She...
  24. AAAaaaagh!! didn't think of that....I've actually been using Nioxxin shampoo, expensive stuff to keep from LOSING hair - didn't even check ingredients! did get my thyroid checked two weeks ago and everything looks okay, S, thank you for that as that had occurred to me as well. One day, this will all make sense.......
  25. Good news, girls, thanks for replying. Patti, I do take a multi (Centrum), B supplement, and iron. Got blood results back, my iron is now NORMAL for the first time in years!! So, I can only hope the hair loss will end soon......'twould be one less thing to deal with! Thanks! Susan
