ARCHIVED Dreams About Food - A New Thing
DingoGirl replied to DingoGirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
wow - so you KIND of get to eat the poison, but not really.....not sure which is worse! -
I have never cared about food my whole life, basically just ate to live (EXCEPT always loved bistro dining and great food when anyone else prepared it ) - been gluten-free about 2 months - suddenly I'm dreaming of food nearly every night, and it's always things like brownies, cookies, fluffy desserts, hamburgers, all gluten-containing items. I never eat...

ARCHIVED San Jose And Carmel California
DingoGirl replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
This is good news, my best friend lives in San Jose and that sounds like a place we can go. I lived in the Carmel area for seven years, wish I'd known about that! (Wish I'd known about celiac disease also, back then.....could have changed many things)! Thanks for the info! Susan -
ARCHIVED Kozy Shack Puddings
DingoGirl replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Robbin, I am lactose-intolerant....don't really know anything about casein at this point - is it not derived from milk? Just eliminated dairy recently with great success in the stomach area....not bloated and painful as before. So sorry about your rice....maybe I"ll try the lactaid and see what happens - - - look out, I feel a binge coming on.... -
ARCHIVED Normal Cookies
DingoGirl replied to MallysMama's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
This is good news.....I don't care about nutrition if I'm going to make my mom's choc. chip cookies.....just some semblance of that heavenly morsel would be fabulous..... I bought some sweet rice flour from Trader Joe's - will that work? Thanks - susan -
ARCHIVED Kozy Shack Puddings
DingoGirl replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Had to ban myself from Kozy Shack, it's not allowed in the house.....my favorite binge food after going gluten-free, but then, had to give up dairy...I could put away a 6-pack of the stuff in no time...sniff.... -
ARCHIVED Those Of You With Positive Biopsy......
DingoGirl replied to slpinsd's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was startled to learn, as I had never heard of Celiac, that I had literally NO villi left at all, intestine was completely flattened.....which explained complete malmutrition and chronically not being able to keep weight on...... -
ARCHIVED Iso Rice Pudding Recipe
DingoGirl replied to ebrbetty's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I second the request, I LOVE rice pudding and was eating tons of it until last week, when I had to give up dairy.... A good recipe with rice or soy milk would be great!! -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Is Highway Robbery!
DingoGirl replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is good to know....I am very scared to attempt any baking. I just look at my new flours and just close the cupboard and walk away. Kind of a waste of money, I had better look into this.... -
ARCHIVED Whole Foods Is Highway Robbery!
DingoGirl replied to penguin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is good news.....I can't stand Whole Foods but do go there once a month to get my Prairie Bread at $8.50 a loaf and the Moche rice thing I can't live without.... What do you use xantham gum for? Also - there is an Asian bakery here that makes these "steamed buns" - SOOOOO fantastic - they're made with rice flour and I don't know what else but my... -
ARCHIVED Calling All "old Timers"
DingoGirl replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Paula, you have no idea. That is just what I wanted to hear, your "issues" sound a lot like mine, esp. the psychological ones. (except what's weird is that my stomach hurts more now AFTER going gluten-free - PLUS I've gained 15 pounds that I"d like to lose part of). I was a bad (read: scatterbrained and totally disorganized) secretary a couple of times... -

ARCHIVED Calling All "old Timers"
DingoGirl replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yup, great minds.... I was going to remove my thread so there'd only be one, but there are responses. You're right, maybe we WILL get more this way! -
Aaagh! You read my mind!!
-
Some of us were just writing in another thread that we'd LOVE to hear from old-time celiacs, who've had it for years, I guess? - to write and tell us that this really all does get better. And tell us, perhaps, how LONG it might take to stabilize....that the torture of going gluten-free (and in some cases giving up so much more than gluten, even) really...

ARCHIVED Distended Stomach - Lots Of Pain - I'm Confused!
DingoGirl replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ohhh.....I DO feel your pain! I don't think anyone will be mad at you at all, and I think you're right - we should start a separate thread for ENCOURAGEMENT from veteran celiacs who feel so much better now! Great idea. Last night I just started eating icea cream, didn't care, but it wasn't that good so I was able to stop after a few bites....stomach... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
DingoGirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Do you feel the C-Diff triggered your Celiac? I was worried about getting thrush but took plenty of probiotics...I think it helped. (still not doing the reply thing right as you can see) Rachel - I don't know if c-diff triggered Celiac but you know what, that's about when my bowels started slowlychanging. I just thought it was nerves. We have... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
DingoGirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Oh dear.....I believe you just stopped taking antibiotics a day or two ago? They are really savage and very strong.....I am so sorry you don't feel cured, but *maybe* a few more days without those drugs will help.....praying that you'll feel better just being off that. I remember it WAS an awful two weeks on that drug! I felt even sicker and yes, depressed... -
ARCHIVED Distended Stomach - Lots Of Pain - I'm Confused!
DingoGirl replied to DingoGirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
DingoGirl - do you make yourself gluten free pasta? If so, did you toss out your old colander? It's impossible to get all of the residue out of those little holes. There might be some old gluten hiding in there. I hope you feel better soon. Cindy Cindy - I had never thought of that! It's an ANCIENT metal colander.....and I have made gluten... -

ARCHIVED Anyone Doing Scd?
DingoGirl replied to Rachel--24's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Ohhhhhh boy..... *my* experience - I think different from Rachel's - involved EXPLOSIVE and violent D which hit me very suddenly about three years ago. My bowels had been perfect to this point. I had been on massive steroids and antibiotics for this outrageous case of edemic/systemic poison oak. A few weeks later (after healthy bacteria had been wiped... -

DingoGirl replied to SofiEmiMom's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I heard or read somewhere - maybe on this site? - that there is an Italian restaurant in Santana Row - might be Maggiano's - that has some good gluten-free choices or a menu, even. I got pretty excited about it! Let us know...... Susan
