  1. Yes ~ Dari Free is potato based. I believe the website is www.vancesfoods.com My dd uses this w/o a problem since she cannot have cow, rice, soy milk. It is sweet though and she won't drink a lot of it. But, I use it for baking all the time and even use it in my coffee for creamer. It makes a yummy mocha!!
  2. Those sound really good! My dd cannot have the brown rice flour... do you think sorghum would work? See, Judy, you're not the only one messing w/the mixtures of everything, lol! Yesterday I attempted to make wacky cake cupcakes but didn't have tapioca starch and had to sub for brown rice flour... threw out 2 batches. She was going...
  3. We are egg-free.... my favorite egg replacer is 1 1/2T oil, 1 1/2T water, 1 tsp. bkg powder mixed together is = 1 egg so 3 T oil & water, 2 tsp. bkg. powder mixed together would be 2 eggs. It doesn't work over 2 eggs though..
  4. Hi Liz ~ thanks for taking the time to type those out... they sound great and I'm sure others will love them too! Unfortunately, we avoid almonds on principal b/c of the peanut allergy it's too risky w/ x contamination and her #s are very high for it. Jen ~ thanks for those links...I may play w/it too to see if I can get it to come out for my dd.
  5. My dd has been wheat-free since October and has other allergies that prohibit us from using most of the premixed stuff on the market. I have found that my favorite blend is from Carol Fenster's website: 1 1/2 c. sorghum flour 1 1/2 c. potato starch 1 1/2 c. tapioca flour 1/2 c. corn flour, chestnut flour or bean flour. The first time I made it...
  6. If you want to thicken it up, make up a little cornstarch roux and put it in about 20-30 mins before eating. I'd probably start w/1T. - 1 1/2T. cornstarch and about 1/4 c. cold water mixed up. Make sure to mix it up and then pour it in the crockpot.
  7. Kimber ~ as you can see by my siggy... I cook free of many things My dd (7 years) also did not like the Ians Chicken Nuggets when we tried them several months ago. She does, however, really like Ian's Fish Sticks. I found a really great chicken nugget recipe and will go pull it out and type it for you. My kids say they are better than McDs! LOL...
  8. Liz ~ Thanks.. it's nice to run into someone that understands the additional stuff too!! I would *love* a tried and true recipe w/o those things!! I haven't baked w/arrowroot yet. I read your signature too... have you tried any margarines? - we use Crystal Farms for Carleigh's butter and baking. I got the MOST awesome sugar cookie recipe on...
  9. Liz, The only yeast bread that I have had success w/is the Carol Fenster sandwich bread made as muffins so far. I have thrown out EVERY thing I've ever tried in a loaf pan though... then I read about the smaller pans working better. I have read every bread label in the store and she can't have any of them due to the additional allergies. Today I...
  10. Hi... this is my very first post on these boards, although I have been a lurker since Christmas time. My dd is allergic to wheat and I have gotten LOTS of great info here. I wanted to comment on the bread that I learned from an allergy board - and it seems to be true. For some reason, gluten-free bread doesn't seem to turn out as well in regular...
