  1. You're doing great don't give up! I've been gluten-free for 2 years this month and I was lucky that I started feeling better within days. Bloat was gone within a week. I lost the 15lbs I couldn't get off for 4 years in maybe a month. The 1st 6 months or so were scary,I didn't know what was ok & what wasn't. I was already afraid to eat anything and...
  2. Oil of Olay products all contain gluten! I believe it's wheat starch or wheat protien... you can use Mary Kay face washes & moisturizers.
  3. I usually try to find something I can eat so I don't HAVE to explain but worse is when you're out & the person you're with makes a huge deal out of it to others. I had that happen with someone every time we went anywhere, whether it involved food or not. He almost made it a threatening statement & couldn;t understand why I'd get mad & walk out...
  4. I just moved from Boston but the Doc that figured me out is an OB/GYN affiliated with Mt. Auburn. Also, Beth Isreal just opened a Celiac Center (I'm pretty sure is was BI) Good luck and let us know what happens
  5. I've worked in a biomedical device company for he last few years dealing with Doc offices. Be persistant!! Part of our company is in Germany & in May I was with a group of them, turns out Celiac & gluten Intolerance etc is widely known there as well as a few other countries. They sent me papers re: American Docs that have had any training overseas...
  6. I never even thought about this! I have a cleaning in Dec. Definitely going to call ahead. My guy didn't believe me about the enamal part until I brought him a published paper...apparently going from a mouthful of cavaties each visit down to none didn't convince him.
  7. when your friends order takeout from the same place at least twice a week because they know there are 2 dishes you can eat there. The 1st time you had Namaste's Chocolate cake you cried in front of your whole family and then tried to hide the cake so they wouldn't eat it. You hugged a chef for making you special meals every time you walk in. your...
  8. I figure as long as it isn't the weird glob stuff & there's no pain, it's normal "a poo expert' ROTFLMAO!!
  9. I accidentally glutened myself the night before a funeral. It was my ex grandmother in law's and it was a Catholic service.
  10. That is a BIG part of it. I hate the fact that I have to inconvienence everyone around me. My BF is very good about telling me that I'm not & that it's about staying healthy & doing what I have to do. And he's never even seen me have an episode!!! Especially at first when no one seems to believe you or understand how critical it is that you don't...
  11. Whole Foods policy is if for ANY reason you don't like a product bring it back, Yes even opened with some missing. I would also avoid the Wheat - Free items as they are usually processed on the same machines as wheat based products. good luck and what a nice thing to hear someone doing so much for a family member with Celiac.
  12. LOL! Altoids! Thanks, I know it's an odd question but it came up. Guess if I ever decide to have kids that's 1 thing I don't have to worry about.
  13. Oh yeah, the back pain & joint pain. I've been gluten-free since Oct '2004 and I only figured out recently that that was where the elbow & hip pain came from. Actually from reading posts here! For me sitting was worse. Standing was ok even though I hunched over all the time. Laying down on my left side was the only way I got relief. A close...
  14. I'm just wondering if when you are Celiac/gluten Intolerant and your man is not & you're tryign to get pregnant should he go gluten-free for the duration? I gotta believe that if you're ingesting gluten your bodily fluids have at least traces. If it does, how would this affect you?
  15. I was going to Outbacks because the have a gluten-free menu, however, they do not update it & are largely unaware of what gluten is. I ordered the gluten-free Cesaer salad & within 3 bites had "issues". Quite embarrassing as I was on a date & heading to a concert after. The teenage manager actually asked me if I was sure I was having a reaction...
  16. usually immediate D at least 3 runs to the BR & if that doesn't flush everything out then I get the, I feel like I have to but I don't feeling. It's not even C it's just tight & painful
  17. Advil Cold & Sinus works like a charm & according to the manufacturer all Advil products are gluten-free. I've never had a problem with them and it clears me right up without making me dopey or sleepy or making my heart race
  18. Hey Cody Good for you on sticking to your guns. you'll constantly have to reaffirm with family that you CANNOT eat or touch certain things. Mine still forgets. Good (or maybe bad) story. We had a family gathering for my bday & ya know what I could eat? salad. This was immediatly following the breakup of my 10yr relationship so it was NOT fun. Watching...
  19. ROTFLMAO!! Most of my family is overwieght & "lactose Intolerant" won;t get tested for gluten & say the same thing to me! repeatedly!!
  20. I was JUST discussing this the other day. I don't need a hospital or EMT giving me the cheap medication that's just gonna make me more sick. I'm glad I'm not hte only one!
  21. My BIL & my BF's families each have a cattle farm & they've both warned me that it could depend on what the cow is feed, like pork...pigs are usually give slop (all the bits of leftover dinners) so I just avoid the pork & hope for the best with Beef. I love beef! I still can't figure out what hay is...
  22. I love that song! sing it for yourself & light a match you can blow out in honor! Congrats, I remember my 1st normal BM, I was so happy!!!
  23. SEVERE stomach pain. All the time. That was what made me go to the doc in the 1st place. my entire intestinal track & bowel to the point where the nerve running down my leg was pinched constantly. Considering I went to 4 different docs & it was an OB/GYN that caught it, you may want to find a different Doc.
  24. I have issues with red wine but I can drink the following White Wine - primarily Pinot Grigio Vodkas that have been distilled more than twice - Grey Goose, Kettle One etc (think high end) I tried Shiner Beer inTexas & that didn't bother me. I had a table of people watching to see if I had a reaction. That was FUNNY! I believe celiac.com has...
  25. As far as I understand it Intolerance is that there isn't as much damage. Once you're Celiac, you can literally kill yourself by ingestng Gluten. I'm intolerant, a friend of the family is Celiac, he was so far gone that he was in the hospital for months. They thought he had Spinal Meningitis!! I have had the blood test but because I had already eliminated...
