  1. My daughter is a sensitive celiac, works at a farm and handles hay all the time. She's never had a problem.
  2. we use instant potato flakes, too. crushed rice chex also works well.
  3. Ugh...my daughter and I tried them for the first time this morning and had to spit it out. We think they're awful. On the other hand, we don't mind the Trader Joes brand. I was happy to find Van's in the regular grocery store but will not be buying them again (I hated to do it but I actually threw away the rest of the box).
  4. We had some of their cupcakes this past weekend. They were delicious and we had no problems at all with them.
  5. You certainly have every right to post your opinion...after all, that is the point of this forum, right? However, it is entirely irresponsible to be posting incorrect and frankly dangerous medical information. A doctor who performs a biopsy does not stand to make "thousands of dollars." The doctor, him or herself, in the end, will make a couple hundred...
  6. I would not be the least bit worried about her results. Her numbers are within range - they are perfectly fine. Numbers change constantly. A CBC, especially, changes all the time - i.e., numbers change depending on how hydrated you are, for example. The fact is, if someone is not symptomatic, even results that are mildly out of range are not something to...
  7. [As far as the sausage goes, it is a mix of meat, fat and spices. Were the spices gluten free? The company that makes the sausage has no regulartory need to check or advise us of the gluten statis of the spices.
  8. burgers usually have flour mixed through the meat, as do sausages. I've NEVER come across any brand of burger (turkey or beef) or sausage that is not gluten free.
  9. Psawyer - You said you were done and maybe you aren't reading this thread anymore...but...just in case you are...I wanted to tell you I completely and totally agree with you - you were getting a bit beat up here so I just wanted to let you know that there are some of us (I'm assuming I'm not the only one) who agrees with you but just didn't speak up on the...
  10. We love all their products - bagels, baguettes, pizza and rolls. The ingredients for the baguette are tapioca starch, milk, eggs, mozzarella cheese, canola oil and salt. Everything's found in the frozen section. We put it in the oven for about 10 minutes to warm it up - my daughter eats an entire loaf in one sitting, too. And their stuff is even loved by...
  11. Manischewitz macaroons are gluten free. They say so right on the box. I have another recipe for Matzoh balls that are fantastic - we are totally in love with them. There is gluten free matzoh - it's made in Israel from gluten free oats - I don't remember the brand - we ate it last year without any problems - it's enormously expensive but I didn't seen an...
  12. Here are my picks: frozen bread - haven't tried any bread mix - Pamela's cake mix - Namaste chocolate cake mix cookies - K'toos pasta - Bi aglut pizza - Against the Grain pretzels - EnerG crackers - EnerG flour mix - Gluten free pantry flour mix cereal - Erewon crispy rice with berries bagels - Against the Grain sundried tomato/basil pastries...
  13. It sounds very much like you have tonsil stones or tonsilloliths. Tonsil stones are white/yellow waxy bumps that get stuck in your tonsils. Usually you can cough them out. They are protein deposits and are generally found in people that have naturally large tonsils with naturally deep craters. They are not dangerous and have nothing to do with celiac or being...
  14. I have to disagree. The "official" daily allowance of Vitamin C is 500mg. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin. That means, if you take more than about 500mg of Vitamin C per day, the excess will leave your body as urine. You won't absorb it. It's a waste. More is NOT better.
  15. We use Earth Balance all the time with no problems.
  16. I have a Zojirushi. We love it. The bread's perfect every time, no matter what mix we use though our favorite is Pamela's. It's least expensive through Amazon.

    ARCHIVED Oas

I have it. It's found in people with environmental allergies. I'm bothered by apples, peaches, cherries and nectarines. It's diagnosed via traditional allergy testing. Certain fruits have the same protein make up as certain trees so, if the tree bothers you, the fruit might too. Cooking the fruit kills the protein so, for instance, I'm fine with applesauce...
  18. The "powder" in gloves is cornstarch, not wheat. Maybe you have a sensitivity to latex? There are lots of latex free brends of gloves available.
  19. Just vouching for fiddle faddle's matzoh ball recipe - they're delicious - I cook them in the soup (the way my family does it) and it's perfect every time.
  20. Hi - Can anyone give me a tried and true cornbread and meatless stuffing recipe? Thanks!
  21. We like the cream of rice and eat it with maple syrup or maple sugar or honey. It's sold in the regular grocery store (a small orange box that says gluten free right on the front) either near the oatmeal or in the baby food section (it can be used as baby cereal).
  22. It totally depends on the particular Friendy's you go to - we had a fantastic experience at one in Sturbridge, MA - the manager's boyfriend was Celiac and she was enormously helpful in figuring out what we could eat.
  23. My family does a lot of skiing and the best place I've found is Smugglers Notch in VT (www.smuggs.com). The resort is very celiac friendly. There's a small market in the resort itself that carries gluten free items and a convenience store about five minutes away that also carries a few items. All the condos in the resort have kitchens so you can cook your...
  24. Does anyone know where to buy gluten free chanukah gelt? I found one place but there are traces of nuts and my daughter has a nut allergy, too. Most of the bags I see in the stores don't have a phone number to call and check. Thanks!
  25. All McCormick's spices, herbs and extracts are gluten free.
