ARCHIVED Quick Bread Question
momandgirls replied to kbabe1968's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I use the all the same recipes I used before my daughter was gluten free. I just substitute Gluten Free Pantry flour mix (I'm sure any brand is ok) cup for cup for the wheat flour. I've never had any problems with doing that. I have a fabulous recipe for banana bread that we make all the time and I actually find that, yes, it's a bit denser than before but... -
I don't know what the answer is but, with the new federal regulations in place regarding allergen statements, it would seem to me that if the hotdogs contained a milk ingredient, it would have to be listed. I know people here at this site generally regard Kraft as a good company with respect to labeling.

ARCHIVED I Got A Zojiruchi!
momandgirls replied to KrisT's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
We love our Zojirushi! Our favorite bread mix is Pamela's amazing wheat free bread mix. Sometimes we add cinnamon and raisins to the bread mix - it's delicious! For other breads (banana, pumpkin, etc.) we use the oven. I've never tried the option for making jam. We make jams every summer and it's so easy - it's never even occurred to me to use the bread maker... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free Cornbread Recipe
momandgirls replied to angel42's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Which brand of cornmeal is gluten free? I just called Bob's Red Mill and theirs is not manufactured in their gluten free plant so I'm too nervous to try it. What brand do you all use? Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Gingerbread Emergency For School
momandgirls replied to 2Boys4Me's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I have some Pamela's mix in my house now and my daughter would love to make a gingerbread house. We were just talking about it yesterday. We do one every year but didn't know what to do this year now that she's gluten free. I'd love the recipe if you're willing to share it! Also, for frosting, we usually just use powdered sugar mixed with a little water or... -

ARCHIVED Ground Turkey
momandgirls replied to Cynbd's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use Shadybrook Farms ground turkey all the time with no problems. I believe it also says "with flavorings" but, like I said, I've called the company and we've never had a problem with it. By the way, we also eat their turkey sausage with no problems, too. -

ARCHIVED Happy Birthday
momandgirls replied to Bronwen's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Namaste chocolate cake mix is definitely gluten and dairy free and I'm pretty sure it's soy free, too. It's delicious! I made it for at both my daughters birthdays and everyone loved it. In fact, the mom of one of the girls at the party told me that her daughter said the cake was the best cake she'd ever eaten (and she's a gluten eater!) -
ARCHIVED Candy Canes
momandgirls replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I'm pretty sure I read about the dusting with flour in Danna Korn's book which is why I was inclined to believe it. Either way, thanks for the responses. -
ARCHIVED Candy Canes
momandgirls posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know which brands of candy canes are gluten free? I had read somewhere that sometimes companies dust the candy canes in flour so they don't stick to the packaging... thanks! -
ARCHIVED Bread Maker Recommendation (breadman gluten-free Cycle)
momandgirls replied to Sterndogg's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just another vote for the Zojirushi - we love it. The best price for it, I found, was on Amazon. -
I was just about to make corn bread and noticed that the brand of corn meal I have is from Quaker. Is it ok? I thought I'd heard somewhere that nothing from Quaker can be trusted about being gluten free - or am I just thinking of their oatmeal? What brands of corn meal are gluten free? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Turkey And Gluten Containing Stuffing
momandgirls posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Can a gluten free person still eat turkey that's stuffed with gluten containing stuffing? What if she just at outside pieces of the turkey that hasn't touched any stuffing? What's your opinion? -
Does anyone know of any restaurants in plymouth, ma, with gluten free menus or ones that can accommodate a gluten free person? Thanks!
-
It's probably due to a food that you ate. Lots of veggies tend to produce gas - broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables. And, of course, beans.

ARCHIVED Lip Smackers Or Other Chapstick

Does anyone know which brands of lip smackers or chapstick are gluten free? I'm looking for something with a very pale color or no color at all - it's for a child. Thanks. -
ARCHIVED Silicone Bakeware
momandgirls replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've got cupcakes in the oven as I write this in a silicone muffin tin. It works great - I use cupcake liners - and you do have to put a baking sheet underneath it as it doesn't hold its shape when filled with batter. -

Just chiming in to say that we LOVE sharon's sorbet! Our Whole Foods doesn't carry it - I can only find it at Trader Joe's. We LOVE the passionfruit flavor. Delicious!!! -

ARCHIVED Can Someone Help A Chef!
momandgirls replied to kylie77's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wheat intolerance means that the person can tolerate other grains, just not wheat. Gluten intolerant people cannot eat wheat, rye, oats or barley. I'm assuming that bourghal is a form of wheat and, therefore, cannot be eaten by someone who is gluten free. Barley and oats are also both not tolerated by people with gluten intolerance. Does this answer your... -
