We make jams and jellies all the time - a great activity to do with my kids. We always make some after going strawberry and blueberry picking in the summer. Something we look forward to. The make great teacher gifts...Anyway, I never bother with the hot water bath, either. After you fill the jars, if you let them sit for several hours, most of the time, they...

ARCHIVED What To Take To Eat On A Trip?
momandgirls replied to emcmaster's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi - Just wanted to also suggest that you call your airline and ask about their policy on bringing food on the plane. We were also out of the country when the lastest episode happened and I wasn't allowed to bring perishable food onto the airplane and was not allowed to bring perishable food into the US (if you checked the bags with the food it was ok). Any... -
I just found their website (www.everybodyeats-inc.com) and saw that they offer gluten free challah. I wrote an email asking if it was also lactose free and it is. They responded quickly and it was a nice email so I was impressed with them. Has anyone ever tried anything from there? They offer lots of things and, looking at the photos, everything looks delicious...

ARCHIVED Friendly's gluten-free List
momandgirls replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I was going to mention the fries also - we were at a Friendly's last week and spoke to the manager - the fries are not cooked in a dedicated fryer. -
ARCHIVED Hard Candy

We're going on a flight next week and my daughter can't have gum because she has braces so I thought sucking on hard candy might help her ears on take off. Thanks! -
ARCHIVED Who's Been To Australia?
momandgirls replied to Mango04's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I thought it was just called the Australia Zoo - it's the one started by Steve Irwin. Thank you for your suggestions. In Uluru, we're staying at a resort. I've already notified them and they said it wouldn't be a problem. I've done the same with the two bed and breakfasts we're staying in so hopefully there won't be any issues. I really appreciate any information... -
ARCHIVED Who's Been To Australia?
momandgirls replied to Mango04's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
We leave on Monday for Australia and are going to Sydney, Uluru, Toowoomba, Bunya Mountains, Sunshine Coast (I don't know the town - that's where the Australia Zoo is, right?). Anyway, my daughter is gluten and dairy free. If anyone knows of any good restaurants/bakeries/grocery stores in those areas, I'd love some suggestions. Thank you so much! -
We stopped by last night and they said they had just gotten the gluten free menus in a few days ago. According to them, all the restaurants will be carrying the gluten free menus but they were just sent out this past week so maybe yours didn't get theirs yet. Anyway, I was wondering about the rice pilaf - it just doesn't make sense to me.

I read somewhere on this board that Pizzeria Uno now has a gluten free menu. We stopped by last night to take a look at the menu - my daughter noticed that they listed rice pilaf as an option for a side. Rice pilaf normally has orzo and isn't gluten free. So, I asked about it. They said that the rice pilaf is actually Uncle Ben's chicken and herb rice. I...

ARCHIVED When Do You Run Another Celiac Panel?
momandgirls replied to floridanative's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
According to my daughter's GI, bloodwork six months after starting the gluten free diet is recommended. -
ARCHIVED Does Your Child's School Offer Gluten Free Lunches?
momandgirls replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've never asked my daughter's school to try to accommodate her. She takes a lunch every day (and has for years) and feels so much better gluten free that she's never tempted to eat something she knows she shouldn't. Her school doesn't allow treats in the classroom for birthdays, etc. (because of all the kids with allergies) so that's not a problem either... -
All flavors of Gatorade are gluten free.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cookies

My daughter loves the arrowroot cookies - we haven't had problems with them. -
ARCHIVED Who's Been To Australia?
momandgirls replied to Mango04's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
My sister lives in Australia (outside Brisbane) and we've been there twice so far and are going again next month. This will be the first time we've been there since the celiac diagnosis. According to my sister, almost every restaurant has a gluten free menu and things are very clearly labeled. When she visited here a few months ago, she commented on how... -
ARCHIVED Mrs. May's
momandgirls replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi - Sorry to be the bearer of bad news...I was the one who posted about Mrs. May's. The earlier bags I had bought definitely said gluten free and then I noticed, about a month later, that they did not. That's when I called the company. I haven't bought any since finding out that they can no longer be certain they aren't gluten free. -
ARCHIVED Portable Travel Food Ideas
momandgirls replied to skbird's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Just a comment about the last two posts that mentioned Mrs. Mays. We found those a couple months ago and my daughter loved them. A few weeks ago, I was buying more and noticed that the packages no longer say gluten free. I called the company and they told me that because they had changed suppliers of some of their ingredients, they are no longer gluten free... -
For adults or children, you should always try to bring down a fever that is above 101 F. Tylenol or Motrin are best. I believe that all Tylenol products with the exception of Tylenol Meltaways (junior strength) are gluten free.

PF Changs and Legal Seafoods both have gluten free menus.

ARCHIVED Looking For gluten-free Dairy Substitutes
momandgirls replied to chick2ba's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We use Earth Balance as a butter replacement - it tastes good and is just fine to cook and bake with. We only use rice milk. Tofutti makes a sour cream replacement - it also tastes pretty much like the real thing. Whole Soy and Co. makes a milkshake type thing that my daughter loves for breakfast. Our favorite "fake" ice cream is Sharon's Sorbet - it's totally... -
ARCHIVED Fasting For Blood Work?
momandgirls replied to silvervelvet's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A blood pressure of 110/60 is on the low end of normal, but perfectly within normal limits and certainly not something to worry about. -
ARCHIVED Gatorades
momandgirls replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called the company - my kids drink lots of gatorade - especially during sports. All gatorade flavors are gluten free. -
The reason I asked about what tests were run is that Hashimoto's thyroiditis is diagnosed by an elevation of thyroid antibodies with all other thyroid bloodwork being normal. I also have thyroiditis. Thyroiditis is an inflammation of the thyroid gland. It is fairly common (mostly in women) and there is no real treatment. It goes away on its own (I've had...

You mention that your thyroid tests came back negative...which tests did they do exactly?

I'd call to complain, too. Your family won't go there again, of course, but complaining might help the next person with celiac disease that tries to eat there...I hope you're feeling better this morning...
