I've been skimming through some gluten free cookbooks and so many recipes call for xanthan gum. Can anyone tell me what brand is best and where I can find it? Thanks!
-
On the recommendation of others on this site, I ordered the Zojirushi (from Amazon) and it should be here in a few days. I can't wait to try it out. Several people recommend Breads by Anna mixes - where can I get those?

ARCHIVED Help Needed
momandgirls replied to AussieJade's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Jade - If you make it to Boston, there are several restaurants that you may want to try. We have Outback Steakhouse - it's Australian themed but the food is good and they are very accommodating with gluten free foods. PF Changs is a chinese restaurant in Boston with a gluten free menu, as is Legal Seafoods (there are several locations). If you come to... -
ARCHIVED gluten-free/soy Free Stir Fry
momandgirls replied to Jen H's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for the soy sauce recipe. We're a gluten/soy/dairy free house and we've really missed soy sauce. Can't wait to try it! Thanks again. -
Try the Lactaid - I know it works for some people but not for me or my daughter so we've eliminated dairy altogether. We use Veggie Shreds mozzarella flavor for things like tacos. It does contain soy but no dairy. Rice Slices - american flavor - are good. Both are made by Galaxy Foods and I've found them in my local supermarket (green ziplock type bag)....

ARCHIVED Ian's Allergen Free Line
momandgirls replied to a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Whole Foods - in the frozen section. They are in little yellow square boxes. Ian's makes some products without gluten and some with gluten so look carefully at the front of the box (I think, but am not positive, that the gluten free line has a purple banner across the front). They are between the frozen waffles and the ice cream. My daughter really likes... -
Physiatrists are doctors (have through the same schooling/training as other MDs) who generally specialize in chronic pain issues. They don't do physical therapy themselves but do often work hand in hand with physical therapists. Osteopaths are also MDs. They have gone to schools of osteopathic medicine and have the same training/licensure as other MDs. They...

Yes - the chicken nuggets are really good. Everyone in my house likes them - even those who can eat gluten. We haven't tried the fish sticks. I made my girls the Alphatots last night and they loved those, too. -
ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Pie Crusts?
momandgirls replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Well, if I wasn't convinced before to go with Gluten Free Pantry, I certainly am now! I didn't know you could store it in the freezer - what a good idea! We did so much baking pre-Celiac - I'd like to think that we can continue doing so. I'll let you all know how it turned out. Thank you so much! -
ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Pie Crusts?
momandgirls replied to momandgirls's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I guess I'll be buying the Gluten Free Pantry pie crust mix - now she just has to make a decision about what kind of pie she wants - she's leaning towards banana cream - I've already checked the ingredients and can make it gluten free. It'll be our first venture into gluten free baking and we're very excited! She and I did a lot of baking pre-gluten free... -

ARCHIVED Good Gluten Free Pie Crusts?
momandgirls posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
My grammy is having a birthday party and I know my daughter won't be able to have any of the desserts that my cousin is baking. So, I want to make something that she can eat. My daughter loves pies - is there a pie crust recipe or a store bought one that anyone would recommend? It needs to be soy/dairy/gluten free. I was at Whole Foods this morning and saw... -
ARCHIVED Almost Ice Cream
momandgirls replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I went by Whole Foods this morning but they don't carry it. I put in a request, though, so we'll see if they can order some. I'll have to try Trader Joes next week. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free/dairy Free Calcium Supplements?
momandgirls replied to LqrMan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Freeda brand vitamins/supplements are free of soy/dairy/gluten. I was told about them from a nutritionist I took my daughter to when she was first diagnosed last week. She gave me a form to order directly from them but I don't have it with me now - sorry. They probably have a website - I haven't looked for them in any stores yet so don't know how easily available... -
ARCHIVED Tylenol
momandgirls replied to Moongirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just called Tylenol yesterday asking about the Meltaways. She said that the Meltaways are still out being tested and the results aren't back yet. She said they should have the results in about two weeks. In the meantime, the children's suspension (bubble gum, strawberry, cherry and I think there's one more flavor) are gluten free so I just bought some... -
ARCHIVED Breadmaker Machine Question
momandgirls posted a topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi - I would like to get a breadmaker. If it's used to make gluten free bread, I'm assuming it CANNOT be used to make gluten containing bread. Would this be right? Thanks! -
thanks pixiegirl - my daughter really liked Baja Fresh before going gluten free so it's nice to know that she can still eat there!

ARCHIVED What Kitchen Things Do I Need To Replace?
momandgirls replied to momandgirls's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Thank you! One more question...I'm planning on getting a bread machine. I'm assuming that if I use it to make gluten free bread then I should not use it to make gluten containing bread. Is that right? I'm assuming it's only safe to make one or the other... -
ARCHIVED What Kitchen Things Do I Need To Replace?
momandgirls posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Just wondering...what kitchen supplies do I need to replace or not use for gluten free cooking? I know I need to replace the toaster but are there any other things? Colander? What about a mixer? I have one of the Kitchen Aide standing mixers - the really big ones. Is it still safe to use for gluten free baking? Someone said that I should replace all the square... -
ARCHIVED Almost Ice Cream
momandgirls replied to Claire's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Thanks for the recommendation - I'll be at Whole Foods next week - I'll pick up some. I'm always looking for ice cream for my daughter that's gluten/dairy/soy free. Is there just one flavor? Thanks! -
Would any of you eat popcorn from the movie theatre? Would the plain be ok? (she can't have dairy so butter would be out). Also, what brands of microwave popcorn are safe? Does anyone know? Thanks!

ARCHIVED Rice Krispy Treats
momandgirls replied to flagbabyds's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Just made some rice krispie treats last week - really good. I followed the recipe on the marshmallow bag. Jet puffed marshmallows are gluten/dairy free. I used Earth Balance "butter," also dairy free and Erewhon crispy brown rice cereal. Delicious! -
I just thought of another one...there's a Good Health store in Hanover, MA. I haven't been there personally but they advertise that they carry a lot of gluten free products. Pixiegirl - We're new to this diet so I never thought about Baja Fresh - what have you gotten there, if you don't mind me asking?

The Super Stop and Shop in Hingham, MA was recently renovated and they, also, have a pretty good selection.
