  1. I have kids too, one gluten free and the other is not. Snacks are kept in the pantry in two separate bins (two different colors), clearly marked with their name. We use bright green stickers on other stuff in the pantry and fridge that needs to be kept separate (peanut butter, condiments, etc.). I have two separate toasters and colanders, etc. We have one...
  2. We love it just with butter (dairy free, in our case), salt and pepper. I just bought one today, as a matter of fact...
  3. I guess mine goes along the lines of the newly diagnosed - what utensils/kitchen items need replaced (toaster, colander, etc.)? Or helpful hints for celiac children - how to deal with school lunches? sleepovers? birthday parties? field trips?
  4. Thank you all so much for the suggestions - in the end, I sauteed onions and garlic, added black beans and fresh cilantro and served it with rice. She loved it.
  5. Hi - Just called Risotteria and they said they can't really accommodate a gluten and dairy free meal. So, I'm trying to find another alternative. I looked on www.glutenfreerestaurants.com (thank you for the link!) and found Sambuca (for dinner) and Peter's Gourmet Diner (for breakfast). Has anyone been to either of these restaurants? I'm open to other suggestions...
  6. We've just decided to go to NYC next month - we have relatives there so we go fairly frequently, actually, but this will be the first time since the celiac diagnosis. Reading this board, I've already decided that we need to go to Risotteria. This is my question for those who have been already...do you think they can accommodate a gluten and dairy free meal...
  7. We'll be visiting Mystic, CT next month. Any ideas of restaurants that have gluten free menus or are particularly helpful with gluten free choices? Thank you so much!
  8. My daughter asked for it for dinner tonight and I have no idea how to make it...thanks!
  9. Tyson is ok - the whole chickens in the refrigerated section. Don't know about the other things, sorry.
  10. Metamucil is 100% psyllium fiber. I have to take it three times a day (and have for years) but it works really well for me. Next time you have blood drawn, you might want to ask the doc to add in a protein and B12 level. That way, you know for sure what your diet is deficient in and then you know what you should be eating more of...just a thought. Will your...
  11. I noticed the change with the chicken nuggets, too. My daughter liked them before but likes them even better now. It's more of a round shape now. The box is exactly the same, though...I'd love to find the cutlets...
  12. Veggie Shreds makes a decent mozzarella substitute (it's in a green ziplock type bag). Rice slices are ok and melt well (american flavor). For milk, we use rice milk so I guess I can't help there. Sharon's Sorbet is delicious (I've only found it at Trader Joes). We also like Soy Delicious "ice cream." Some flavors are gluten free, others are not. There's...
  13. I know jet puffed brand is ok - not sure about any others.
  14. The regular La Choy brand soy sauce is gluten free.
  15. I can't remember exactly but I know that when I was in the store, I looked at both the lite variety and the regular one and I bought the regular one. We avoid gluten and dairy so I can't remember what was in the soy sauce but it was one or the other because I know I didn't buy it. Sorry if this is confusing...
  16. thank you so much for suggesting the turkey tom toms - now I just need to find them! I'll be near a Whole Foods tomorrow - hopefully they'll have them (my two local supermarkets didn't).
  17. are there any slim jim type things that are gluten and dairy free? My daughter's having a craving. Thanks.
  18. We use rice milk for things like cereal. It also works just fine for cooking and baking.
  19. My daughter takes salad with oil and vinegar in a separate container, fresh or dried fruit, raw veggies, soy pudding, Ener-G pretzels, celery with PB and raisins, dry cereal (usually Panda Puffs)...
  20. La Choy brand soy sauce is gluten free. There are two Chinese restaurants near me and we've tried investigating whether it was possible to eat there anymore. One used Kikkoman soy sauce (contains wheat) and the other uses a soy sauce brand where the label is written entirely in Chinese (they brought it out to show me). I know that it's possible to ask...
  21. Just receive our first order from www.glutenfreepantry.com - We've tried several of their things and, for the most part, really like them. Their brownies are absolutely fantastic - I had to tell people to stop eating them and leave them for my daughter!
  22. It's the only milk we use in our house - I bake and cook with it all the time. I just used it last night for breading turkey cutlets and no one found it too sweet (I used mashed potato flakes for the breading - my girls liked it better than breadcrumbs!).
  23. We went to Skipjacks in Boston recently and had a wonderful experience. They don't have a gluten free menu but they will accommodate just about anything that you pick from the regular menu. They were able to make meals that were gluten free and dairy free. They even made a special dessert just for my daughter since there wasn't anything on the menu that...
  24. Hmmm..thanks for the replies - does that mean that people don't really eat microwave popcorn? Do you buy it already popped or do you all have air poppers? Does it work to put kernels in a paper bag and microwave that? Thanks!
  25. Can someone tell me what brands of microwave popcorn are gluten and dairy free? Thanks!
