ARCHIVED Children's Motrin Liquid
Nic posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, I thought Children's Motrin was safe but every time my son gets sick with a fever, and I give him motrin, his constipation comes back within the next week. I thought I read on here once that someone thought it wasn't safe. Nicole -
ARCHIVED Document For Doctors To Sign For Taxes
Nic replied to skikat's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Where did you get the info on this? I was told by an accountant that I couldn't claim anything. Nicole -
My son has been getting these red marks on his face for a couple of months now. They come and they go. They are not raised, dry, or rough. They feel like normal soft skin. It does not bother him at all. At first I thought maybe it was from the cold weather and maybe he was licking his cheeks but they appear even when it isn't cold. They are bright red...

Hi, my youngest son, not my Celiac, has had a life time (5 years to be exact) of developmental delays. He was born big at 10 pounds 8 ounces and I was borderline gestational diabetes during pregnancy. He gains weight at a crazy speed even though he does not eat too much. As a matter of fact he eats less than the other kids in the family. His thyroid has...

Hi, I understand completely about not wanting to trigger anything but he is not allergic to milk as he has been tested. I believe he is intolerant because I did see an improvement after I took it away. The nutrionist suggested trying to add dairy back in to determine if it is lactose intolerance rather than casein. Like I said he can eat dairy without...

I just received an e mail back from the company responding to my question, "is the Aunt Jemima Original Syrup still gluten free?". The bascially responded that with ingredients occassionally changing they cannot give an accurate list of what is gluten free but to continue reading the ingredients to determine what is gluten free and what is not. I read my...

ARCHIVED Article About Progress On A "celiac Pill"
Nic replied to spg7000's topic in Publications & Publicity
Hi, do you have any idea if once this drug is approved will it also be dosed for children. Also, I understand that it will not be used to replace a gluten free diet and just for cc issues. But what about when we go out to dinner and my son can't eat the fries because they are not in a dedicated frier. Do you think that counts as cc or as out right eating... -
Hi, my husband and I went into the city today (New York) to try this gluten free bakery called Babycakes. We sat in 2 hours of traffic but it was worth it. We bought a dozen gluten free dairy free cupcakes as well as 2 slices of a chocolate crumb cake and a half dozen mini brownies. So far we have tried the cake and it is excellent. The cupcakes are the...

My 7 year old son was diagnosed with Celiac 3 years ago. Just last winter he had a colonoscopy because he was still sick even though gluten free and through the colonoscopy the doctor determined he was reacting to another food (they found white bumps in his colon). He was a huge milk drinker so I started with milk. I took it away completely including even...

ARCHIVED Please Help Me Figure Out The Etiquette
Nic replied to dandelionmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I always call ahead and ask what the host is serving. This way I try to match my son's gluten free food with the food everyone else is eating so he doesn't feel so different. For example, if the host is making baked ziti and meatballs, I make a gluten free baked ziti with gluten free meatballs to bring with us for him. No one has ever had a problems with... -

ARCHIVED Cooking Tinkyada Rice Pasta (spaghetti)
Nic replied to happyslob's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi, I only cook with Tinkyada as well. I have found that you always have to take 2 minutes off of the cooking time. I cook it like regular pasta (boil water then boil pasta for suggested time). They suggest 15 minutes and I cook it for 13. It always come good. I agree with the cold water removes the slime. Nicole -
For anyone who loved ring dings before going gluten free I found a very good substitute at our local health food store. They are called Ring Tings and are made by Shabtai Gourmet (Cinderella Sweets). They are a chocolate covered cake filled with a white cream filling. My son was in heaven last night. He hasn't had anything cream filled since before going...

ARCHIVED Kids Cereals.....
Nic replied to sammers1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
My son has been gluten free for 2 and a half years and Fruity Pebbles and Cocoa Pebbles have been safe the whole time. Of course read the ingredients every time you buy just in case. Trix is also safe right now. They were safe in the beginning of us being gluten free, then they added wheat in again, then they took it out again. So right now it is safe... -
Enviro Kids makes a Kix like cereal. I believe it is called Gorilla Munch but am not positive. I know the Panda Puffs have peanuts but I don't know about the Gorilla Munch. Nicole

My son liked the pizza. He asked if he can bring it for lunch today. The cheese is completely dairy free. It is soy and I think it has tofu in it. The only allergen I see listed on the box is soy. So I am assuming it is egg free as it is one of the major allergens and would be listed along with the soy if it were in there, right?

Hi, my local health food store just recently started selling Ian's gluten free chicken nuggets and fish sticks. I used to have to travel to Whole Foods to get them. Yesterday I went in and found that they are now also carrying the little TV dinners Ian's makes as well which is great because my son loves them. But to my surprise they also had a gluten free...

ARCHIVED Promethius Lab Vs Enterolab
Nic replied to MammaW's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son's gi sent his blood to Prometheus. I was also worried about insurance because Prometheus was not in my network. The doctor told me not to worry about it because he never had a patient complain about getting a bill from them (apparently they accept what ever the insurance happens to pay out, I believe it was 70% of what my insurance company felt was... -
ARCHIVED Purell Hand Sanitizer
Nic posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi, my son's school will be installing Purell Hand Sanitizer dispensers around the building. Does anyone know if it is safe? Nicole -
Hi, I know this has been discussed numerous times before but I have a vitamin question. My pediatrician keeps the kids on perscriptions vitamins and I have to assume it is because there is no flouride in the water here and the vitamins have flouride in them. I think this because all of my friends who have kids in this area are also given perscription vitamins...

ARCHIVED Another Interesting Day At The Doctor's Office
Nic replied to Ridgewalker's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My son got hives like that from Augmenten. I believe that Augmenten is in the pennicillin family (am I right?). He does not react to any other antibiotic including all pennicillins. These were the big welty looking hives that covered his entire trunk area. Nicole -
Any ideas for the dairy intolerant? Would you use rice or soy milk in place of the regular milk?

My mom always bought the kids a specialty made chocolate for halloween. You know, like a jack o lantern or a witch. Now that my son is dairy free as well as gluten free, the chocolate is out but she still wants to do something special for halloween. Anyone know of any good holiday type cookies? I was thinking of maybe a butter cookie of some sort.

ARCHIVED Anybody Have Children With Only Neuro Symptoms?
Nic replied to mamaloca2's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Hi, my youngest son is not diagnosed with Celiac Disease and so far I haven't made him gluten free (his older brother is Celiac). My youngest tested negative for Celiac and does not carry the gene for it but has had neurological problems since infancy. He was severely gross motor delayed, had sensory issues (he licked everything he could for years and gagged...
