Wheatwacked replied to Summer M's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'll jump in and answer that. All of the above. And there is the boredom of waiting on the seat for something to happen, while there is so much going on elsewhere. On the GFD he will learn to recognize when it is time to go now that the opiod effect is removed. 😊 -
the point of the gluten challange is to eat enough gluten to make you sick enough so the tests will show that you are sick. If you are successfully navigating our gluten flush world, yes you will not "pass" the test. In my opinion Celiac Disease is not so much a disease, like Covid or measles, but more of a poisoning. Doctors don't learn very much...

Fatigued and sleeping
Wheatwacked replied to Lotttieelis's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
For the most part once you have healed the malabsorption improves. Unfortunately the western diet itself is often nutrient deficient because so many calories are spent on carbs with little nutrional value. Other tests to ask for: vitamin D - high enough levels can moderate the autoimmune response. "The discovery of the vitamin D receptor in multiple... -
4% Fat cottage cheese is Celiac Disease friendly. Cottage Cheese and Red Leaf Lettuce salad, once considered a punishment meal for fat people turns out to be very nutritious. "Since the 1960s, when experts started advising people to eat less fat—based on the belief that a high-fat diet led to a high-fat body—obesity has skyrocketed. Recent evidence sug...

My 7 year old was just diagnosed
Wheatwacked replied to Summer M's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
@Summer M GOOD JOB! After 7 years it will take some time for him to realize that he now has control. I venture to guess he also has ADD. By the time he realizes he has to go...opps! too late. When my son was diagnosed as an infant at weaning (1976), his doctor told us that when he went to kindergarden it would not take long for the teachers to ask... -

300 Facts You Didn’t Know About Celiac Disease! @Ruba md, you might enjoy perusing the list in this article. Though you may doubt, days will be better, A common belief. There are actually over three hundred symptoms. I would have saved myself years if when I was 25 I hadn't said exactly that. "My stomach is fine, I don't have Celiac" Yet here I am. ... -

When my son bloated up after weaning in 1976 the most popular opion was my wife's anxiety was the problem. Valium for her. He'll grow out of it. He was one of only 13 children at the time being treated in a state population of close to 6 million. -
Chest tightness only symptom of being glutened?

Glad you found us. Only 1% get diagnosed Celiac, but 10% are diagnosed Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity. Many here have gone through years of repeated tests and treatments for diseases they don't have before results of the tests reflect their reality. To diagnose NCGS first they exclude Celiac, then show improvement on Gluten Free Diet. Yuu don't need... -
Chest tightness only symptom of being glutened?

Not judging but this is denial. Gluten is addictive and the lizard brain will do what it can to keep it's supply. Doctors are addicted to it also. My whole life I had sinus congestion. Doctors said I wasn't sick, no allergies, just the way it is with some people. Sometimes, especially around 13 years old, in my sleep my whole upper palate would get... -

@StrongStar Welcome. In a way you are lucky to be in a family of recognized Celiacs. It saved you years of neurologic tests and side effects of medications. Not to mention the financial costs and suffering. Amoung other things, Gluten acts on our opiod receptors. Some have severe withdrawal, some don't. Like opium or alcohol it can make you high but... -
Consumption of large quantities of Rice can interferes with Thiamine. That's why the Japanese came up with Benfotiamine. In order to meet nutritional needs after milling many grains are fortified with synthetic vitamins like folic acid. How can that be good? But if you like it and does not bother you, food is good.

Coping with celiac and relationships
Wheatwacked replied to Hol.lydo's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
After a week this is probably still withdrawal symptoms. "The more gluten-filled products you eat on a regular basis, the more difficult it will be to cut it out of your diet due to the increased stimulation of the opioid receptors in your brain. People with a higher gluten intake to begin with are more likely to develop more severe reactions when eliminating... -
Pre Diagnosis
Wheatwacked replied to stevemac1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've had a few episodes where out of the blue, suddenly I got nauseous, my lights went out and it felt like what I remember the nitrous oxide at the dentist felt like, spriraling down. Then I threw up had diahrea and got real sweaty and it eventually passed. I can't call it Low Blood Pressure but something happened and there is no food pattern. Once... -
It might have been an article here on Celiac.com. I did find one from 2021. "People with two copies of specific genes, such as HLA-DQ7 (a form of HLA-DQ3 that's similar to HLA-DQ8), risk very strong reactions to gluten, just as people with two copies of HLA-DQ2 can develop very severe celiac disease, [Dr Fine] says." Do You Need Specific Genes to Have...

100% Grassfed milk has about a 1 to 1 ratio of omega 6 : omega 3.Organic milk is about 3:1 and regular milk is 5:1. Modern American diets typically boast an omega-6 to omega-3 ratio around 10 to 1, sometimes as high as 30 to 1 while the optimal ratio for health is 4 to 1. https://riverview.org/blog/uncategorized/get-an-oil-change-improving-your-omega... -
Long haul covid from celiac disease
Wheatwacked replied to Georgeann's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Hi @Georgeann, Welcome to the forum. Do you have test results, celiac, vitamins, minerals, that you can share with range? After two years of gluten free you should be mostly healed and absorbing most of what you eat. You might redo the Celiac panal to see if you are truly gluten free. Or follow a diet to eliminate trace gluten for a while. Trace gluten... -

I have been taking 10,000 IU a day since 2015. Once I increased from 8,000 to 10,000 its effect on my Seasonal affective disorder was miraculous. In 2018 my blood level was 47 ng/ml. Now it is holding steady at 80 ng/ml. A lifeguard in summer is around 80. Mayo Clinic Proceedings: Vitamin D Is Not as Toxic as Was Once Thought"Vitamin D intoxication associated...

It is an everyone problem but Celiac Disease can exasperate the effect. The choline problem started when it was advised to avoid eggs and red meat for heart health so that now only 10% of the western diet eat the DV for choline. Hi @HayleyR. Welcome to Celiac.com. Firstly, in just a few days you have proven to yourself that eating gluten is not good for you. It took some of us years to get to this point. Gluten is not really a great source of fiber. Here is a link to Mayo Clinic list of high fiber foods. Chart of high-fiber foods. A cup of cooked spaghetti has 6 grams of fiber and...
