  1. Too true!!! When I took lessons as a kid, I had constant bruises on my knees and hips from falling on turns, jumps, etc. I only got far enough along to do a single axle though One of the first things I learned in skating was the hockey stop, so that we could spray the boys with ice Much more fun than a boring and slow t-stop...and you get...
  2. Yes, because an allergic reation creates a different type of antibody. Allergies create IgE reactions, while celiac creates IgA, IgG, and TtG antibodies. Allergies also don't damage parts like celiac and other autoimmune diseases. They both are due to a hyperactive immune system reacting to something it shouldn't, but it works differently. With an allergy...
  3. Here's a link to a well rated sauce recipe over at allrecipes: Open Original Shared Link Or you can buy classico, like Jessica said
  4. My suggestion (as a fellow married 22 year old) is to just be yourself at college. Try not to be too shy and make an effort to meet people. At a community college especially, where many of the students are non-traditional, you'll probably find that you are in no way alone. As far as eating goes, salads with chicken or some other meat are a perennial...
  5. Distilled liquors are gluten-free, regardless of grain source, unless some of the mash or something is added back in after distillation. Jack Daniels is gluten-free.
  6. Ditto. I had inconclusive bloodwork too, and I already know the gluten-free diet helps me, but I need to know that I did every test possible to know that's what I had, or I'd always doubt it. None of my doctors think I should be eating gluten, but I want to see what kind of damage, if any, there is. I'm lucky to have a fabulous primary doc, and a fabulous...
  7. He didn't fight his parents, actually. His family fought the state that was trying to give him chemo again, he wanted to do alternative treatments (Hoxey). His winning the case is actually a very good thing for parents, because it means that the state doesn't have control over your children. For now.
  8. OFF TOPIC Jeeze, Emily, look at that picture! You're way hotter than your poodle!
  9. Thanks, Patti. Well, that is strange, isn't it? Here we go again with Jean Benet....it will be interesting.
  10. Quaker makes this cereal, and they reccomend that celiacs don't eat their products.
  11. I use a blend of brown rice flour/potato starch/corn starch with outstanding results I tried just cornstarch once and I couldn't get past the look of it...it looked like elmer's glue
  12. He pretty much confessed, during the press conference no less. Though he admitted that before to the authorities. He said that he was with her when she died, and that he didn't mean for her to die, that he loved her. As I understand it, he was trying to find a teaching job in Thailand, escaping from child porn charges in California I think. I don't know...
  13. Now I'm a bit more carrot top than ronald mcdonald, but it's still not done. And I smell like a cathedral. Which isn't necessarily bad, I always loved that smell I would rather spend eternity with Bob Barker telling me to spay and neuter my pets than watch 5 minutes of Lazytown. That show is 'effin creepy! My favorite...
  14. But when you have that much money, who cares what your name is?
  15. Minute Maid products are gluten-free, the coca-cola company makes it. Wood is gluten-free also
  16. Actually, it was Howard Butt...and then someone else in the family, a daughter I guess, has a hyphenated last name...Butt Crook...
  17. All oats in the US test above the codex standard for gluten-free. They are not safe.
  18. It's called HEB (A central Texas thing) and this particular location carries a lot of gluten-free stuff, and I think most of Authentic Foods' product line. I can think of two reasons 1: a proactive celiac or two, but I don't know which ones live up here 2: It's the closest grocery store to the culinary academy and so they carry more gourmet type stuff (though...
  19. I'm sorry, Karen. Things have to get better eventually! And kick your husband (somewhere special) for me
  20. I use the Authentic Foods superfine brown rice flour that she reccommends, but I'm lucky enough to have a local mainstream store carry it. Sure, it's like $9 for a 3lb bag, but it's so worth it, and I'm cheap
  21. I imagine, though I haven't checked with my company (United), that you'll have a much better chance of having it covered by a PPO than an HMO...
  22. OK, two things: Eating gluten for you is dangerous. You're allergic to wheat and rye, right? All gluten grains are contaminated with other gluten grains because of grain storage, transport, etc. Secondly: You'll have to eat A LOT of barley to get up to an acceptable level of gluten daily, as I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), barley doesn't have as...
