ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia - Need Fresh Advice
penguin replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I wouldn't call it loading up. Look at the portions I had: 1 waffle (half the serving) with 1 cup of milk (full serving, also serves as my protein) with ovaltine (not full of sugar, compared to things like nesquik, and I only use half the serving) and 1 tablespoon of PURE maple syrup (better on the GI index than sugar) Little bits of sugar aren't bad... -
ARCHIVED Tazorac Cream - Anyone Ever Use This?
penguin replied to DingoGirl's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I googled him I don't know what the heck I googled to get that result, but I've had the image on my comp for a while. -
Hmm, thanks! I have hypoglycemia...I wonder if that's why I'm compelled to add cinnamon to everything. My subconscious tells me a lot, like not to eat bread, nuts...and to eat more cinnamon!

ARCHIVED Hypoglycemia - Need Fresh Advice
penguin replied to VydorScope's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'd add some grains in with your protein, it'll help to keep you going longer. Strive for balance. I started weight watchers and noticed my BS crashing a bunch, until I realized that I was eating almost no grains. Nuts are also good to keep the BS up, I'm partial to honey-roasted peanuts and almonds. I had a good BS morning, here's what I had: Van... -

Leah - I'm so sorry about your friend, but I'm glad she finally found peace, and that she got to see/speak to her kids before she let go. It's probably what she was waiting for -
Oh, no. I've had these for years. I think three years now. Even when I was gluten-free, they still happened, if not more often. I am curious to see if they happen less when I'm gluten-free for longer. I'm sure there's a common trigger somewhere, I just haven't figured it out.

If I'm able to (ie: it's not 10am and I'm at work) I start the OTC pain meds and phenergan. The earlier I use the phenergan, the better off I'm going to be. If I start getting an "aftershock" type effect where a second episode is coming on just after the first, I can usually keep it at bay by taking bentyl and a combination of tylenol and advil. The phenergan...

I've been trying to figure out a reason why I get these ridiculously painful stomach spasms that don't respond to anti-spasmodic medication, and only sometimes respond to pain medication. I've had these for 3-ish years now, and doctors shrug their shoulders and give me pain meds. I've been checked for ulcers, upper GI, gallbladder, etc. etc. These spasms...

I had a whole big long post here yesterday that I lost before it posted, so I'll try to recreate it: At the risk of sounding like a 20-something snob, but a lot of it I think has to do with age. I'm part of a generation that grew up on fast food and eats out ALL THE TIME. It's part of the culture now, that's why the food industry is booming so much right...

ARCHIVED Yoplait
penguin replied to pixiegirl's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Yoplait yogurts are gluten-free, except for the ones with cookies or granola on top. Whips are definitely gluten-free. Maybe you get a tummy ache from the artificial sweetener? That happens to me sometimes if I get too much of it, and my mom is severely intolerant to it. -
ARCHIVED Who Has Done Weight Watchers?
penguin replied to penguin's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm doing it online, and so far so good. The little online thingy is mad at me that I lost 6 lbs in a week, since it should be slower, but that was the first week so of course it's higher. So far, I'm finding it pretty easy! -
ARCHIVED Just Need To Vent And Complain A Little About Inconsiderate, Intolerant And ......
penguin replied to sparkles's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeah, I'd bring my food without asking. Being sick isn't worth trying to appease anyone. Sheesh. -
Yep, every single product of theirs is gluten-free, bottles and on tap. The draft part in this case is confusing, because they call all their products (regardless of packaging) Woodchuck Draft Cider. Here's their faq: Open Original Shared Link

ARCHIVED Sick Again
penguin replied to kirst4588's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Those are the UK sites, in the US, the rich chocolate flavor is gluten-free. I called on it in March or April. I drink it and have had no problems, but who knows from batch to batch if there is contamination. That would probably be my first thing to eliminate in this case. Also, that about site has a lot of misinformation, it says that millet, kamut, quinoa... -

ARCHIVED Think I Might Have Been Glutened....

Bulk bins are major MAJOR cc hazards. Could that be the case? -
ALL Woodchuck Ciders are gluten-free... So are all Ace ciders

ARCHIVED Think I Might Have Been Glutened....
penguin replied to Lollie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Clan Thompson Smart List says dove choclate is gluten-free. Toffee should be gluten-free, there is no reason for gluten to be in there, it cooks at way too high of a temperature (my mom makes it at the holidays). I'd be more concerned about the chocolate part, although it appears to be safe. I'd call the company tomorrow and ask. -

I'm not sick of you posting Yep, hurricanes are scary, no doubt about it. But you're prepared! You've done this before! YOU CAN DO IT!!! -
Anything with peanut sauce is generally not spicy either. Also, every thai place I've been to has had a star or pepper rating from 1 to 5 for spiciness. I usually ordered a two pepper (mildly spicy) while DH would order 0 peppers (before we moved to Texas and he discovered a liking for spicy food, since even "mild" salsa here leaves your tongue charred ...

ARCHIVED Gluten Guard
penguin replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
FWIW, I've seen posts that say that the gluten guard products aren't that reliable, and that an unusual number of things that are definitely gluten-free come up as "undetermined". You may want to do a search of past posts on gluten guard. -
ARCHIVED Shocking Story #2
penguin replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have anything to say except that I'm very sorry for your situation. I hope you can get your baby back before she gets any worse. It seems like the MSBP accusation is sometimes made when the dr's do something wrong to lay the blame elsewhere. -
ARCHIVED Gluten Guard

You just buy the palm version, but the pc version is downloaded with it. I haven't tried gluten guard, but I've heard more positive things about the clan thompson list. No program will be totally comprehensive, you just have to find the one that works best for you
