  1. That's funny, my mom was going to go to a gluten-free vendor fair in NY for me but she had a UTI and didn't want to go because she said, "I don't want to be somewhere and have to worry about there not being a bathroom." I laughed and said, "mom, think about this for a second: It's a building full of celiacs, trust me, there will be bathrooms EVERYWHERE...
  2. Amy's is on the "not my friend" list, along with Bob's Red Mill and some others... I was glutened by the enchiladas also, but they tested my batch and it tested negative for gluten, so I don't know. Every now and again I eat the mac and cheese, but with reservation. I don't know why I trust Kraft and the like more than Amy's, but I do.
  3. I found out about this a few weeks ago and wish I would have known months ago! This close to it, it's pretty cost prohibitive to go to at this point. Hopefully they have one next year! I know, that's what I'm going to have to do. I just want the technical skill that hopefully I can get out of books and research. I guess it's mostly recipe...
  4. No tobacco on the compound, ladies, it makes the geese nervous! Seriously y'all, I know it's hard, but you've got to quit! I know you can do it!!! I only smoked for like, a year, so I didn't have the longstanding addiction to deal with. I did watch my mom quit though after smoking since she was a teenager! Ironically, she's now allergic to cigarette...
  5. Off topic, but YAY! That was my local paper! It truly is a great article! Um, your sister needs to take the stick out of her butt and realize that you both have children with complimentary autoimmune diseases and that it would benefit you both (and the family) if you worked together.
  6. Repeat after me: "I'd love to, but I really can't" Or: "No." It'll save you plenty of butts, most of all your own
  7. I also add a bit of vanilla to the PB cookies, that's just me though. McCormick and Tone's vanilla are both gluten-free. The best pasta out there, IMO, is Tinkyada, and they make elbows. Also, the cheese powder from kraft dinner is gluten-free, and they sell it in a skinny blue can, usually by the velveeta or parmesan. Sometimes by the popcorn. I think...
  8. You don't need them to be soft before adding them to the mix, adding them fresh will work great. They cook down when they're in the oven, I believe you just add them to the dry ingredients. Otherwise, you can also use thawed, drained, frozen blueberries. As far as dried fruit goes, it depends on the recipe. The dried fruit will expand some while baking...
  9. Yikes! Remember that prunes were plums before they were dried. Keep it moving! Oh Yeah!
  10. Many welcomes! I see that you're in Albany, I'm not sure if you're close to any, but Wegman's has a "G" on everything of their brand that is gluten-free.
  11. Happy birthday!!! Personally, I would go to the store tonight and get the banana split stuff and then say tomorrow, "ok - we're doing my birthday again so that I can actually enjoy it!" That would get the point across! Don't forget to turn in the receipt for reimbursement
  12. I'd guess the guac, since it's inbetween the lettuce and cheese and both fall into it. Sorry you're sick Did you have anything else it could have been?
  13. I do apologize for attacking Bernice, she is indeed entitled to her opinon, and she has a right to say it. By the way, I didn't make a single post on the topic of children in Chernobyl, so please realize that I am not the only one that have found your posts abrasive, so that if you are to lay blame you may do so in the right direction. There are plenty...
  14. All right, that's it. I have yet to see you write a post that wasn't made to piss somebody off. There are plenty of other boards out there that you can instigate arguments with, because that's what those boards are for. This is a support board. We are here to help eachother and to support eachother, and turning this thread into a threat of hellfire and brimstone...
  15. The vast majority of vinegar in the states is distilled, and distilled from corn at that, so it's gluten-free. Malt vinegar is almost always clearly stated. I'm sure it's not the same in the UK, I remember EVERYTHING drowning in malt vinegar when I was there - EWW!!! Most people are ok with things that are distilled, no matter the grain source, because...
  16. I eat there near constantly and have never had a problem. I'm careful never to get cheese or lettuce (they use their hands for that). I also ask them to get new guac for me since sometimes cheese and lettuce falls in. Sorry, I don't know what made you sick
  17. I think God has to understand, we get our ability to understand from God Himself. It's not like we're outright denying the bread, it's that we want to be able to eat the bread, but our bodies won't let us. The intention is there, the love for God is there. I can't see God saying, "you didn't eat the bread and only had the chalice, you are incomplete in your...
  18. That's awful. Nobody should be forced into medical treatment, especially one as harsh as chemo. So much for informed consent.
  19. New Megan update!
  20. Actually, food manufacturers aren't required to list gluten. They're required to list wheat, which is one of the top 8 allergens. Gluten-free does not have a definition for the FDA, but there will be one by 2008. I don't know if drug companies are required to list allergens or not. As far as the liquid immodium, they changed the formula so that it would...
  21. Even if you don't feel the effects of severe anemia, it can still be serious. You'll not only wear out faster, but it puts A LOT of stress on your heart. Remember that the red blood cells carry oxygen to your muscles, including your heart. When you're severely anemic, doing a lot of strenuous exercise can be bad news, because your red blood cells can't carry...
  22. Hah, dissecting cats, pigs, cadavers, whatever, I can do that. I was one of the less squeamish and more skilled dissectors in bio, oddly enough. My frog, Miss Piggy, had a rock in it's stomach! Stupid frog. My pig, Kermit, was slightly less easy to do, but mostly because it was June and no a/c. So I looked at the community college and the other university...
  23. I've got severe anemia also, and I take a liquid supplement called Open Original Shared Link, it's the only one I've ever been able to stomach. It's also completely vegetarian, if you're concerned about heme iron. Don't skimp on the iron, it could be very dangerous.
  24. Welcome! And how did you deal with the chemistry getting your degree
