ARCHIVED Marshmellows
penguin replied to Kiki's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
If they're the Kraft JET-PUFFED brand, they're safe! Actually, any kraft product with ok looking ingredients is safe. They will clearly list gluten. Hershey's is the same, they will clearly list gluten, and regular hershey bars are safe. Enjoy! -

Schooling goes for 12 months, no breaks. Hopefully all of my core classes are covered by my university degree (for heaven's sake, they should be!) and that would give me breaks in the evenings every other six weeks. It would be rough, but I've had that kind of schedule before, when I was in undergrad. I'd work from 5:30-10:30, go to class until 2:30, work... -
ARCHIVED Prilosec
penguin replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Sorry you get the side effects I don't get any of them! I have so much chronic inflammation in my stomach that I'm at risk for cancer, so it's important for me to keep the villagers happy -
ARCHIVED Prilosec
penguin replied to Lister's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Prilosec isn't just for reflux. I'm on it because I have chronic gastritis, which is inflammation in your stomach lining, often caused by too much acid. I don't have reflux. Prilosec is a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) and makes your stomach produce less acid, thereby reducing inflammation. The term to take it is two weeks or however long your doctor perscribes... -

That's funny, I always feel better in New York For some reason I can really breathe there, probably because of the lack of trees and such There's no other new york out there... ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cheesecake
penguin replied to Sheryl in NJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
In that small of an amount, cornstarch will work just fine in place of flour. Whether or not you can go without a crust depends on the type of cheesecake. If it is a NY style cheesecake that stands up on it's own, then sure, why not. If it's a softer type cheesecake, it might need the crust. You can use gluten-free cookies crushed up and made like a... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Cheesecake
penguin replied to Sheryl in NJ's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made this for my husband's birthday, and it was really good! It's massive and doesn't have a crust, make sure to use the biggest springform pan you have! Of course, you could probably halve it. Here's the link to the recipe: Open Original Shared Link ERIC'S BEST NY CHEESECAKE INGREDIENTS: 4 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, softened 1 cup unsalted... -

Procter & Gamble makes Olay products, and they give a CYA response for all of their products, but the ingredients are fine. I think they will clearly list. At any rate, I haven't had a problem. -
That may be true, however, in practice it can be a different story. At any rate, the fries and onion rings go in the same holding bin with a metal divider. Every time I've ever eaten at BK gluten-free or not, there has always been an onion ring in my fries, without fail.

I use cornstarch to replace the tapioca starch in flour blends, and so far it works just fine Annalise Roberts reccommended to use arrowroot starch in place of tapioca. -

penguin replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
It doesn't taste good to me anymore either, but since I have this "YOU'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO EAT THIS AGAIN" feeling looming overhead, I'm eating it all anyway. I think I need to eat 50 flour tortillas a day for the next 3 weeks, those spinach me the worst. Insult to injury - I always wake up feeling sick after eating out. Blech. Thanks for the kind words... -

Well said, Rinne! You know, I think that rice flour should have the properties of wheat flour in Rachelville (by the way, I have trouble spelling Rachel like that, my sister spells her name weird) Anyhoo, that's another job for the glittery purple bats. It's because of their pollenation of the rice that rice flour has gluten properties so that I... -
Well, I'll take a slightly different angle on this. I'm nearing the end (thank God) of a 3 month gluten challenge for the biopsy. I didn't have doctors telling me that I had to have the biopsy, but I need to have it for myself to know that I did all the testing I could. I'm unusual in that my doctors pretty much agree that I have gluten intolerance if...

Grr! Dr. called with the results of my bone density scan and I missed the call Since it's after 3:30, I won't get called back until tomorrow I mean, surely they're normal, I'm 22 for crying out loud! But still...I want to know! -
ARCHIVED Celian Diet & Breast Lumps?
penguin replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Just so you know, your biopsy will probably be negative because you've been gluten-free for two months. You have to be eating gluten to have the celiac reaction to have damage in your intestine. Just a heads up. I would at least ask about the lump, never hurts to be too careful. It may be a normal bump that you haven't noticed before. Better to be paranoid... -

My brother-in-law is from the UK and while he and my sister were visiting his parents, my sister asked for the iron so that she could iron his pants, and they looked at her like she had 3 heads. She was like, "you know, his pants! They're wrinkled." and they said, "who on Earth irons PANTS?!" Bit of a culture gap there...pants being trousers in the US and... -
ARCHIVED Are 'breyers Pure Fruit Popsicles' Gluten-free?

Breyers is a unilever brand and they will clearly list wheat, barley, rye, oats. And maltodextrin sounds bad, but it's safe. -

OK - How do I get my husband to pay for me to take belly dancing lessons? I took a couple in college but he thought I was too fat to belly dance He didn't mean it that way, but it still hurt. Anyway, screw him, I want to take lessons! Now to get him to pay $64... It could come out of my spending money...but no
