  1. Haha...I usually have only seen agar in petri dishes... It's great for growing bacteria! But it is very jello-like
  2. Ideally, that would be culinary school, but their floury butts can't accommodate me and they suggested I do something else. As far as nutrition goes? I'd see that as working backwards, I have a college degree, and going to the community college would seem counter-intuitive. There are other colleges in town, but they're private and likely more expensive...
  3. eeeek! booo!!! Hiss!!! RECOIL!!!! Let's make one thing clear: I AM IN NO WAY CHOOSING THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS. (If I could make a horns gesture upside-down on here, I would) (GO HOGS!) I happen to live here, and that happens to be the nearest reputable university. If I don't think of it as UT, then it's not! I keep thinking I'm going to be...
  4. The sad thing is that DH is a chemical engineer. I really should be able to do it, what with an in-house tutor. On the other hand, he tried to help me on my football-player calculus class and it was so simple that he couldn't explain it. It was like trying to explain to a 2 year old why the color blue is blue. IT JUST IS! I have a feeling that after...
  5. Thanks Carla, I said basal temperature rhythm because I couldn't remember the name, that catechism was a long time ago
  6. It would say "malted beverage" or something of the like on the bottle. All of their wine based coolers are gluten-free, the malt flavored ones aren't.
  7. Holy crap, looking at the University of Texas requirements for a nutrition/dietetics certification, I have to take FIVE SEMESTERS of chemistry! That's not even degree seeking! That immediately gave me a panic attack and an impulse to jump out my office window. Principles of Chemistry 1 Principles of Chemistry 2 204 Intro to Chemical...
  8. Yeah, doctors don't like giving IUD's to women who haven't had children yet. FWIW, my sister had a horrible time with an IUD, constant heavy periods. I take the pill, which might be a risk, but so far so good (knock on wood!) Just lends more to my theory that I've spent all this money and time trying NOT to get pregnant, when I probably couldn...
  9. I don't know, any gyno I've talked to doesn't like the shot. You get a massive dose of hormones all at once, and people I've known that have been on it have had horrible periods that are really heavy and last forever. It also takes longer to get pregnant after you go off of it compared to the pill.
  10. We are down to the last month! 26 more days! Of course, even though I feel like hammered s*it, I'm compelled to eat everything in sight! Not only for the gluteny things I'll never be able to have again, but also for fattening stuff! I'm starting both the gluten-free diet again and weight watchers the day of my biopsy As far as culinary school, I'll...
  11. Vincent isn't on right now, but there is an update!
  12. Vincent isn't right online right now, but there is an update: Hope you don't mind, Vincent, we're all on pins and needles!
  13. Fig Newman's aren't gluten-free! They have barley flour!
  14. Legally, they have to give you records if you request them. Go back to the doctor and demand them. You'll have to sign a release form, but they have to give them to you. Report them to the state if they don't.
  15. Couldn't hurt, but fruit-based quickbreads should be ok without it.
  16. Unless the malt specifically says corn or rice malt in the label, malt is always barley. That includes, um, all but two mainstream cereals Stupid companies...
  17. Yay! Thanks for updating, Vincent!
  18. They are gluten-free and run on dedicated lines according to the San Diego Celiac group Open Original Shared Link
  19. OK, I'm almost over being depressed about it. If the small-shop culinary school couldn't accomodate me, I'm 99% sure Le Cordon Bleu wouldn't be able to help me either. I can always become a nutritionist or registered dietician, and learn about food that way. Otherwise, my culinary training will go the way of Paula Deen, only without the benefit of nothing...
  20. My Tide with Downy was making me break out in hives, and it took more than a month to figure it out! I use All free & clear now and am very happy with it.
  21. Yeah, the Church won't approve non gluten hosts because, as I understand it, the last supper had wheat bread, and so must we. Celiac causes all kinds of crisis and internal conflict, even spiritual
  22. Regular heinz ketchup is gluten-free. The organic isn't. Heinz puts "57" on all their products, but heinz 57 sauce is what is not gluten-free. This is what the heinz 57 bottle looks like http://shopuncleharrys.dukestores.duke.edu...d%201%20022.webp
  23. I haven't seen him, but my GI doc and his PA have Based on their impressive knowledge of celiac and gluten intolerance, I would say it would be worth looking in to. I know that's where my GI doc gets most of his research info.
  24. I don't really have anything constructive to add... But welcom! You've definitely been gluten-free too long for testing to be accurate. Given your immunodeficiency, I don't know that enterolab would work either. It would show genes and malabsorption, anyway. For you, your best indicator would be dietary results, I would think. I hope you find some...
