  1. That's odd--Fritos aren't even mentioned (ingredients: corn, oil, salt), I could have sworn Lay's Staxx had wheat starch, and I remember reading on a thread here that TCBY does not guarantee that their frozen yogurt is gluten-free. (Wow, it would be nice if I'm wrong about the Staxx!)
  2. Ewwwwww! I do like the look of elegant fingernails--but when I've let mine grow the least little bit, they catch on sweaters and hose and towels and I HATE THAT! I'm just stuck with inelegant--but very comfortable--hands
  3. How frustrating! Guess you can't ever depend on THEM, can you? Sounds like your DH is addicted to food--or could he be addicted to gluten? Just noticed your sig--how did you find out you were allergic to codeine? The reason I ask is, I had a terrible reaction to percocet, and so far, out of everyone I've talked to who has taken it, 12 out of 16 people...
  4. That's right, and grey is the new blonde! (Thank you, Meryl Streep!)
  5. You don't really hit your late 40's until you're at least 50. 49 is the start of the mid-forties. (They're all anniversaries of 29 anyway...)
  6. Holy cow. Well, if it makes you feel any better, I was thinking you'd make a pretty good moderator!
  7. I NEVER WEAR NAIL POLISH!!!! (Most violinists don't--we have to have short nails.)
  8. Chgomom, didn't you see the on mayflowers' post? SHE WAS JOKING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. If the blood has already been drawn, then there is no need for him to be eating gluten now, is there? I've read over and over on this board some very good advice:YOU DO NOT NEED A DOCTOR'S PERMISSION TO REMOVE GLUTEN FROM YOUR CHILD'S DIET. GLUTEN IS NOT SOMETHING ANYBODY NEEDS IN THEIR DIET. It's like nuts: they are very tasty AND nutritious, and could...
  10. Well, I'm not afraid to say that everything you (and tailz) said (that I saw, anyway) MAKES SENSE. So far, I do not exhibit any of your symptoms except recently a sore neck, but that seems to be caused directly by some of my PT exercises for my shoulder (was using the wrong muscles to lift my arm and weights), but I'm keeping your list of symptoms. If...
  11. Um, chgomom started a thread asking people not to bicker--and there are now 22 posts, um, bickering about it? Seriously, though--we are people with different backgrounds and different experiences. I think everyone who has posted (no matter how accurate their ideas) truly wants to help others. The problem arises when either someone intentionally...
  12. I think failure to progress has more to do with having labor induced. Just because it was the due date does not mean that your body was ready for labor, first of all, and induced labors are FAR more painful than natural labor (I've been through both, so I speak from experience here). When they induce you,t hey don't let you get up and walk around, they...
  13. I knew chromium was in vitamins, but didn't know it could be a potential allergen. And cobalt and nickel? Yikes, I already know I'm severely allergic to nickel at least skinwise. What kinds of foods is it in?
  14. If your child had such a positive response to the diet, that means more than any test, lab or doctor. As far as the genetic part of it, celiac is nearly unheard of in Asian countries--but it is rising very quickly in Asian-Americans who have been consuming the typical Western diet. That certainly gives me pause in ruling out something like celiac based...
  15. There is a cinnamon bread recipe in Roben Ryberg's GLuten-Free Kitchen--it's made from potato starch and cornstarch, and layered with cinnamon and brown sugar. I've tried it--it's pretty good. I brought it to a 4th of July party, didn't tell anyone it was gluten-free, and it disappeared quickly. I think there might be cinnamon bread or roll recipe in...
  16. I didn't think she would be dyeing her hair yet, but you never know these days--one of my neighbors is dyeing her 10-year-olds hair AND her 5-year-old's--ugh!
  17. aww. Hang in there, and have some chicken soup. Treat your tummy as though it's had the flu--eat thte things that you know will be easy on it for a week or two, and then, if you are feeling a lot better, introduce ONE new thing and see if your tummy's ready. Do you have Costco near you? They have gluten-free roast chickens that are really yummy...
  18. Wish I had enough experience and knowledge to be authoritatively helpful here. All I can offer is a few ideas: a friend of mine traced her chronic hives to hair dye. Even though it was only on her head, she had hives all over her torso--until she changed hair dye brands. Your daughter isn't dying or highlighting her hair, is she? A neighbor of mine...
  19. Hey, Susan, be careful with the nuggets--sending your blood sugar up and down probably has some effect on your moods, too (a chocolate high followed by a crash). Maybe you can still eat half the bag, but like one nugget every 30 minutes, so you maintain a consistent level. Better yet, melt them and put them in an IV drip. (I am totally addicted...
  20. Michi8, I don't think Mayflowers was trying to be rude--it did look (at least, to me) that you were referencing her post in saying that there was no cure for the common cold right after she posted saying that, for her, there is something that has consistently worked. Let's try to keep this thread from going the way of some of the other recent argumentative...
  21. Sorry to be quick--I'm too tired to write anything long and decent. But it just occurs to me that, if blood was already drawn, why on God's green earth does he want your child back on gluten? If going off gluten fixes the problem, then there is no need for a scary, invasive procedure, is there? Especially if there is STILL a chance of a false negative...
  22. Mercury in VACCINES produced before 2003 is far greater than mercury in fish. My husband did some research on this, and figured that our first two children received enough mercury in their first vaccines (given when they were 4 HOURS old) to equalthe mercury in 3 pounds of tuna.
  23. Poor Susan, what a tough time you're having! With the periods, it could be "peri-menopause." That's the decade or so before menopause actually hits. (BTW, notice how all our problems begin with "men?" MENopause, MENstruation, MENtal?) It could also have something to do with thyroid--which could also explain the depression. I know there's a website...
