  1. I know that some doctors insist that this is true, but I don't think it's ever been documented. At least, backin 1995 when someone tried to suggest this to me, I couldn't find any studies showing this to be the case. I'd be willing to bet the that those kids were not allergic to their mother's breastmilk itself, but that they were celiacs whose mothers...
  2. Hi, Nicki, do you live in the North Hills, too?
  3. ekatherine, do you like your soyajoy? It looks good!
  4. Okay, so I screwed up the frosting (I forgot to do the math and put 4 ounces of coconut milk in instead of 1/4 cup, and then had to add extra sugar to firm things up and then it was too sweet), but the CAKE was AMAZING. I think it was the best cake I've ever made, and I like to bake cakes! I couldn't FIND the superfine brown rice flour, so I used half...
  5. In truth, thou dost jest too much!
  6. My dh isn't here right now, but he's a chemist, and he said something about it a while ago to me. (I hope I got this right!) I think he said that the amino acid structure in wheat, barley, and rye glutens are very closely related (oats, too, hence the difficulty many of us have with them). Corn and rice glutens do NOT have amino acid structures that are...
  7. Organic produce has MSG? WHAT?
  8. It might be worthwhile to buy your own chair. That way , you KNOW it's right for you!
  9. Whoops, sorry! www.tribest.com/ ????
  10. "Wheaty Days?" I love it!! Sounds like a Hallmark Channel Movie! Or maybe a soap--"Wheaty Days of Our Lives!"
  11. Is this Quick Mix a mix you mix up yourself, or do you have to buy it ready-mixed like Bisquick? I miss this one dish I used to make a lot, it was kind of like a savory tart, but we called it "tuna pizza." It had a kind of tuna/cream cheese/herb spread on top of a baked bisquick crust, with thinly sliced tomatoes on top...It sounds gross, I'm too tired...
  12. I just saw this on Home and Garden Channel==one of those favorite new products shows. Anyway, it makes fresh soy milk (and they said it could make rice milk and other milks) from soy beans in 15 minutes! All I could find on the Internet was this: Open Original Shared Link but let's keep our eyes open! I have a Chinese friend who makes her own soymilk...
  13. Mamaw, I bet you're right! In fact, I STILL don't feel like myself again, and it's been over 3 weeks (I'm feeling just a wee bit impatient....) The chin zits did not materialize until after surgery--and I've never EVER had zits as an adult. I only had like 3 zits as a teenager, and those were all from eating hot dogs or smoked turkey (things that have...
  14. Wish I could do more....
  15. Thanks, Leah--can't wait to try these! Do you think it would work if I left out the fruit glace and just added another cup of chopped almonds?
  16. The lost tribes of Israel have been in Hawai'i all this time!!!!!
  17. RICE MILK!!!!! That might be your hidden gluten source. I read in several places that a lot of the rice milks are NOT gluten free, even though you won't see any gluten listed on the ingredients. Apparently, a barley enzyme is used in the processing.
  18. Aw, Rachel, what a lousy way to spend your vacation. I thought of one thing, though: I used to get sick every time I came home from college, as soon as finals were over. I would crash at home in my own wonderful bed in my own room, and finally RELAX, and then BOOM I would get really sick. It was like my immune system decided to go on vacation, too...
  19. Oh, Tanya. I suppose you're already holding her sort of upright all night? When my daughter's reflux was at its worst (and it was nothing like Megan's, we had it easy, though I didn't realize it at the time), I slept holding her in the rocker so that she would be as upright as possible. (I also just like holding my babies all night I couldn't...
  20. Not sure, but I think the xanthan gum is to keep it from turning into a brick, so it would help the baking powder to do its job, but it wouldn't make a cake rise on its own. I've only make one loaf of soda bread (with the complicated flour mix in earlier post above), and right now my very first gluten-free cake (Annalise Roberts' coconut cake) is in the...
  21. Okay, I must be doing somethign wrong, because my rosacea has just progressed from pink cheeks to zits all over the underside of my chin. Grrrr.
  22. As I understand it, one of the big difficulties Tanya has been having is that she can't find a formula (prescription or otherwise) that Megan can tolerate...
