They probably use a seasoning blend that has wheat starch in it. -
ARCHIVED Wash Rice Before Cooking
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Dyang's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
What is the excess starch that I have been washing off? When I was growing up, my best friend's mother (who was from Taiwan) always instructed us (when we helped in the kitchen) to wash the rice with 4 changes of water. My husband has always washed the rice in 3 changes of water, soaked the rice for half an hour, dumped the water, and added fresh before... -

Wait a moment--if Julie is Queen, then we don't NEED a King. Maybe a Crown Prince (don't all good fairy tales have a Prince?), but definitely not a King. No offense, guys, but look what happens to the world when men have political power. If women were in charge, we'd never have the mess you see in the Middle East! So, as music teacher, I need to know... -

Could be rosacea, though (hope for rosacea!)--my rheumatologist says that if your nose is pink, too, it's more likely to be rosacea, which I've got. I also get these tiny white pimply-looking things near my nose, and red pimply looking things under my chin that itch--he says that's part of the rosacea. And people used to comment on my lovely skin . ... -

Did you have hyperemesis (major barfing and nausea) during pregnancy? If so, then your body might be saying, "I barely got enough nutrition during pregnancy and now you want me to PRODUCE MILK? WHAT?!?!" Which does NOT mean don't nurse, but it definitely means that now is NOT the time to lose weight. You have the rest of your life to lose weight, but...

Wow, those look good. How much do they charge for shipping? I looked on their website and couldn't find shipping charges listed. Also, do their breads freeze well? Do you thaw them in the fridge or in the microwave? (I'm starting to get tired of making EVERYTHING from scratch!) -
ARCHIVED Megan's Gagging Isn't Any Better

Vincent, you are amazing--a true mensch! Tanya, my husband and I are both 0+. If things get tricky, let us know (I'll pm you my phone #)! We both predonated for Michael's surgery, and they used 2 units of packed cells for him (which was slightly more than they'd anticipated, but they didn't seem at all surprised by it). -

If both your friend and your ex-boyfriend are trying to communicate the same message to you, then there just might be a grain of truth in it that you might want to pay attention to, even if it is a year out of date! Learn what you can from it, try not to react with anger, and if the shoe doesn't fit--don't wear it! -

Tanya, if there are other things that need to be bought, let us know, and we can purchase them from wherever we are and overnight them to you at home or to Vincent near Vandy. I'm so glad the dog is better--wish she could come with you to Vandy! Hang in there--you're on the home stretch. Love, prayers, and star wishes, Alison -

Cissie, I didn't see your original question (I'm sorry, I'm trying to keep up, but I am Long-Thread-Challenged!), but it sure sounds familiar! I can't stand it when my arms are touched. This has only been for the last 5 years, and it doesn't bother me at all if I touch my own arm, but if one of my kids touches it, my skin reacts the way my ears react to... -

Okay, I'm only on page 167, so I'm at least 7 pages behind, but I'm posting this anyway because if I ait til I'm caught up, we'll all be in retirement homes....(Does Rachelville have retirement homes?) Robbin--IT IS NEVER TOO LATE!!!!! I would suggest Suzuki violin or piano lessons. Piano is initially more rewarding, because as long as someone has... -

Given my current distrust of doctors' abilities to use their brains, not to mention how frequently they tend to CONSCIOUSLY intimidate their patients, I'd call it, "common sense...." -

Hi, Tanya, Just wanted to say goodnight, and I hope everybody (including the pooch) sleeps well! That's one remarkable dog you've got. I bet if you take her to the surgery, she'll make sure nobody makes any mistakes! -

So, obviously in Rachelville, we are NOT going to have DOCTORS, are we? But what WILL we have? Oh--I couldn't find the spoon thing that every one is referring to--what page is it on? -

ARCHIVED Is Scleroderma Related To Celiac?

Thanks, Tanya, I'll google it, it's sure to come up. You've got enough to do! How's Megan tonight? (and you?) -
Oh, my goodness, Carriefaith, I'm glad you're all right! You have just motivated me to carry chewable benadryl in my purse.

ARCHIVED It May Be A Fluke, But I Think I Cured My Rosacea
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I've been using Mederma (you buy it over-the-counter next to the first aid creams) for my surgery scar and biopsy scars, anyway. Recently, I sprouted all these disgusting pimples under my chin ; the rheumatologist thought they were an extension of the rosacea on my face. Anyway, for some reason it occurred to me that if Mederma can help heal scar tissue... -

Getting back to the Amish/Mennonite thing--there's also the Bruderhof (the brotherhood)--a group similar to Mennonites located close to Pittsburgh. They also dress very conservatively, and they seem to place high value on education and the Arts. Many of them take violin lessons (and probably other instruments), and I see them come to Symphony Concerts when... -

Hi, Eileen, welcome aboard! Congratulations on your baby--is this your first? It can be totally overwhelming even without health issues. Many new moms have a terrible time getting started on breastfeeding, mostly because the idiot doctors don't realize how often you REALLY need to nurse a new baby (no, it's not every 2-3 hours, unless you want your milk... -

In Michael's case it was the vaccines he received at 2 months . I think there were 3 or 4 at once--this was before I knew any better. I assumed it was the DTaP that caused the reaction (hours and hours of screaming like I've never heard before or since). His only allergic reaction has been to amoxicillin. He had diarrhea and and ear infection with his...
