  1. When you think about it, caffeine is an addictive drug, and if it's caffeinated diet soda you're drinking, you're opening yourself up to all kinds of health complications (all those horrible chemicals!)--just like eating gluten! If you have a chance to get off caffeine, you will ultimately be doing your health a huge favor (not to mention your wallet!). ...
  2. I'm not sure I agree with you. I think, with the increase of gluten-laden fast foods, chemicals in our foods, and fancy bakery breads and muffins in every grocery store and convenience store, not to mention the proliferation of whole-grains in our diet, that there IS an increase of celiac as well as the fact that US doctors are finally getting a clue. ...
  3. Hi, Tanya, glad to hear all the good news! Hopefully, soon, you can change the title of this threa to "Megan's gagging IS better!" If you can keep your sanity and still pump, then that's what I would do, at least through this next flu season.. I don't know if freezing destroys the antibodies, though--fresh might be the best, especially as you will produce...
  4. Thank you so much for posting this. I think it's fascinating that they are quoting the US National Institute of Health--but here in the US, we haven't heard about it. US residents have to read a Canadian publication to find out about it?!
  5. I'd actually be far more suspicious of the turkey pepperoni. I've noticed that turkey ham and turkey bacon contain quite a lot of artificial ingredients, as well as sodium nitrite (which always gave me skin reactions, several decades before I ever reacted to gluten!) and other preservatives. Also, pepperoni is usually quite spicy, which, if your tummy has...
  6. You're right, that is incredible--and horrible. So what can we do to counteract this idiocy?
  7. I used to love it, until I read the list of ingredients and realized how little of it is actually juice...
  8. Write your own and illustrate it with either photos of your family, food, etc. or pics downloaded form the internet (or draw your own, if you are artistic)! You can call it "Tommy's Tummy Troubles ," or "Why Susie Can't Eat Our Bread and Noodles," or something like that...
  9. gfp, what article are you quoting? Can you provide a link?
  10. Great sleuthing, queenofhearts!
  11. YAAAAAAAAH! It has been driving me UP THE WALL trying to remember where "Good googly moogly" comes from, but I finally remembered! It's from a Nick Jr. cartoon that was on about 5 or 6 years ago called "Maggie and the Ferocious Beast." I can finally sleep now....
  12. jnifred--they look wonderful--but don't you need xanthan gum in there somewhere? Or do they not need it?
  13. Hi, Toni, wish I could help. But it looks like you're actually helping me--I didn't know chewing gum had gluten!!! Give it a bit more time, and and for now, you might want to avoid gluten-free substitutes, and just eat foods that are easy on your tummy--rice, plain meats, bananas, etc. If you are eating gluten-free breads, snacks, treats, etc, that...
  14. Hi, Susan, just parachuting in here again to check on everyone. The right guy for you will NOT be dysfunctional, no matter how great he hugs. Sap that I am, I believe that true love ALWAYS comes with great hugs--but without dysfunctionality (is that even a word?).
  15. Hi, I'm sorry this will have to be brief because I have company coming over in a few minutes! Low thyroid, lack of sleep, stress, dehydration, and low protein-and-low-fat-diets ALL contribute to low milk production! Best advice I was given: nurse or pump every hour to hour and a half. Yes, I know it sounds nuts, but when a baby goes through a...
  16. Roben Ryberg has a buttermilk bread recipe in her book The Gluten Free Kitchen that is very good, and similar to my tastebuds to Kinnikinnick's English muffins (thouigh baked in loaf form--but you could slice and toast it). I'll be happy to PM it to you if you like (don't know if I'm allowed to post it here). Her recipes use ONLY potato starch and cornstarch...
  17. Check this out: Open Original Shared Link
  18. Also, here is a link to a website I only just discovered that lists a lot of gluten-free products, and may have other cool things as well, but I was so excited about it, I didn't peruse it further, but rushed over here to share it: Open Original Shared Link I also posted this website under its own thread on the Coping With Celiac section.
  19. I think this somehow relates to the case that Andrea posted about, where a 15-year-old who had had cancer, had had chemo (and barely survived the chemo), and then had a relapse. His doctors insist that he must have another round of chemo; the kid says no way (with his parents' full support), he wants to try alternative treatments. The doctors are trying...
  20. My understanding is that, with early intervention and a little extra help, children with Down's are capable of nearly anything! There is a little girl with Down's in my son's elementary school. She takes mostly regulare classes, she goes to a smaller classroom for some classes (but learns the same material and does the same homework as the regular class...
  21. Isn't this the opposite of what Cindy is going through on the other thread ("shocking story")? Actually, if the foster parents int that situation are feeding those kids gluten (of course they are), then, as soon as celiac is proved, then I would think that the foster parents are guilty of abuse. And, yes, I think this is abuse, just as feeding a child...
  22. Get Annalise Roberts' GLuten-free Baking Classics. The chocolate chip cookies taste just like the best gluten ones I've ever made, and the coconut cake is the best cake I've ever tasted (and I've always baked form scratch, even before going gluten-free this year)!
  23. How about--when you don't go ANYWHERE without wipees--even after your children are out of diapers (or even if you've never HAD children)?
  24. Let's see, we are not getting fast food any more, we don't buy any prepared mixes or powdered mac-and-cheese, we are eating far fewer breads, less pasta, far more fresh fruits and vegetables, the only cookies or cake we eat are the ones I bake from scratch, and we hardly ever go out to eat. So we are eating far healthier and spending LESS money on food...
