  1. This study sounds skewed to me--they already had their minds made up. Notice they didn't say HOW MANY cases of lymphoma might be prevented, only how much it would cost to prevent ONE case. Hmmm.
  2. We gave our babies broiled salmon (no seasoning)--just flake it, it doesn't require teeth and is VERY nutritious! Also peaches, pears, plums, avacado, hummous, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas, and tofu cubes (and we didn't even know about gluten then!) If D is an issue, skip the stone fruits and do bananas and sweet poatoes, rice cereal, and mashed potatoes...
  3. I'm so sorry to hear what you are going through, and absolutely shocked at how you were treated. When my daughter at 5 weeks developed a fever of 101, the ped sent her to the ER where she was treated for meningitis--we were told that with babies under 3-4 months, if they waited long enough to find out what it was, it would be too late if it were meningitis...
  4. Karen--use your shell whenever you need it, it's YOURS! Am sending prayers that your villi have recovered enough to prove the doctors wrong. Take a nice candle-light bubble bath tonight and RELAX. Villi like it better wihen there's no stress to knock them down with acid. Am also sending good thoughts and relaxing vibes your way. Would send chicken...
  5. I bet you could call General Mills and order a case of it!
  6. Yeah, in my case it seems to be the 1/4 Welsh bit that's causing mine...
  7. ME, TOO! ME, TOO! I don't know anybody else that has this happen, either.
  8. I don't know about the EnerG saltines, but there IS a gluten-free version (sorry, can't remember who makes it but it looks very similar to Corn Chex)of Corn Chex cereal. I lived on Corn Chex (even though it had barley malt) while I was pregnant becasue it was the only thing besides strawberries that I could keep down (didn't know I had a problem with...
  9. Grapes (washed, of course) are great car food--pack them in sandwich-sized zipper bags or washable plastic containers. Carrot sticks and sweet red pepper sticks are also good. For the hotel room, you can pack a loaf of homemade bread (tastes so much better than the dry cardboardy storebought unless you live near a Whole Paycheck I mean Whole Foods)...
  10. What good news! Thank you for sharing it--it cheers me up to read an occasional in the midst of all the problems we all have? I wish I could think of something to help your daughter. Does she have a good friend with whom she might try a week or two of sleepover camp? One of my colleagues had some brilliant ideas when their son was diagnosed...
  11. I'm very interested in the discussion about antacids, as I'm on Nexium. I tried "weaning off" to Zantac, but the rebound reflux did not improve and actually got worse as the week wore on, so I went back on Nexium. I've had reflux since high school, but didn't know what it was until I was 25. I hate the idea of being on meds for it, but hate the reflux...
  12. I dunno, I can't keep up!!!! Coffee: I am so jealous of all of you who can drink it. One cup makes me feel like Superwoman for two whole days (really! I get so much done, it's amazing!), but then the crash comes--a two-ton headache, and I feel like I am underwater, and no matter how much MORE coffee I drink, I never quite make it back to normal (i...
  13. It depends where the pain is. My DH-type rash hurt where the blisters were--itching and burning like crazy. But if the pain is not on the surface, but underneath, (like a pinched nerve, but running the whole length of the nerve, say the whole arm if it's on the arm), then itmay be shingles. I've had shingles, and have to say that the rash part of it...
  14. Sorry, was trying to reply to Dingogirl--I can't keep up with you guys!
  15. Never heard of it, but I had to post when you said that you were almost 45--I THOUGHT YOU WERE IN YOUR 20's!!!!! Dang, girl, you look at least 20 years younger than your age--what's your secret?
  16. Here in Pennsylvania a couple of years ago, a single African-American mom had her son taken away by Children's Services. I can't remember the reason, but it was in the newspapers, and some lawyer volunteered to help her fight because apparently Children's Services was totally in the wrong. I vaguely remember something about their holdinga termination of...
  17. Hi, Dr. Russ, I just wanted to add my (belated) welcome aboard!
  18. "Pretty darn well..." Excuse me, but I think you deserve more than pretty darn well! You deserve to have someone adore you, and realize that you are the greatest thing for him since sliced bread! (Annalise Roberts' gluten-free recipe, of course!) I'm serious.
  19. Thanks, RKB_MD! I've tried La Choy and a tamari that I found at Whole Paycheck (I mean Whole Foods), but neither of them come close to what I think of as "real" soy sauce (the stuff I used to buy at the Asian grocery). I use La Choy (grudgingly), and add a little sesame oil and a little molasses, but I still miss my real soy sauce!
  20. Some kids who have problems with casein don't have intestinal symptoms--they might have recurrent ear infections, colds, or even eczema. Also, if the kdis have a gluten intolerance, the body may be attacking casein as well because (I think) the proteins are vaguely similar; after being gluten-free for a while, many people find that they can again tolerate...
  21. Coffee has always given me diarrhea. I can't drink it.
  22. My bad for not explaining my point well, Nini! What I was trying to do was to explain why I thought people here were jumping on Cindy and saying that she must have left out something, and that she wasn't doing everything possible, and even questioning her honesty, etc. I had a very strong feeling (possibly wrong, of course) that people on this board...
  23. That's a good point. Finding a good lawyer isn't necessarily easy, either, though. I've met quite a few who are not what I'd call meticulous, plus I think there are a lot of unethical things that go on behind the scenes in the legal system.
  24. I just checked my miso--it's Hikari Miso and the ingredients are water, soybeans, rice, salt, sake lees. I thought it was gluten-free--no wheat, no barley. I haven't reacted to it (yet)--does it have gluten?
