  1. Most of the time--no. I just want to make gluten-free versions of old favorites. It's confusing for me, though--I seem to react to little things like real soy sauce and oats--but the one time I did knowingly cheat (a Chinese dumpling made with wheat won ton wrappers), I didn't react at all.
  2. My point is that the test isn't necessarily going to help. Haven't you seen the number of people on this board WHOSE BLOOD TESTS WERE EITHER NEGATIVE OR INCONCLUSIVE? What is Cindy going to do if they order a blood test--and it's either negative or inconclusive? That might sever her parental rights forever. I am going on the assumption that Cindy is...
  3. Thanks, Debbie, I didn't know about them. I'll check them out!
  4. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING. How many of us here have been tested, and the results were negative? Or iffy? Or the doctors either didn't know how to correctly interpret the results ("Just because your IgG is off the charts doesn't mean you have any problem with gluten, it could be IBS or any number of things," or, in my case, actually lied ("Your bloodwork...
  5. Sounds great! I've been using potato buds (was it you who suggested that, too?), which works well, but I'm getting tired of my chicken and fish sticks always tasting like latkes....

    ARCHIVED I Hate Kaiser!

FANTASTIC IDEA! You are brilliant. Do we PM you the names, reasons, etc? Can we take it one step further and have a kind of anti-directory here on the forum? Could one look up the name of a doctor alphabetically, and read whatever experiences people have had with said doctor?
  7. The sandwich bread mixes I've seen don't exactly taste like Challah, but then again, they don't exactly taste like regular bread, either! However, they all seem to call for at least 2 eggs, and sometimes extra egg yolks. I don't think gluten-free doughts are really braidable (they're awfully sticky), but if you don't mind just a regular bread machine shape...
  8. I'm so sorry to hear what you've been going through. I was hit by a car in January, dislocated my shoulder, and the idiot orthopedist (who has a very good reputation and thinks he is God) refused to order an MRI because he said he knew exactly what was wrong. It turned out that I had torn cartilage, torn tendons, etc. To make a long story short, I found...
  9. No! Just substitute gluten-free margarine or shortening for the butter!
  10. Wonderful news! Thank you so much for taking the time to keep us updated. Michael gained very quickly after his heart surgery, too, going from 10th percentile to 75th in months. Apparently, first the 2 VSDs and then the muscle bundle were causing him to burn up calories like mad, and also causing him to tire easily (before finishing a meal).
  11. I thinkyou also need to add "wheat starch" and "modified food starch," which are in most premade sauces, marinades, and sauce mixes. Somebody might think that a white sauce, for example, would be just fine as it has no bread or bread crumbs in it. Or they might think that "light" ice cream is okay, as there is no obvious wheat in it--until you read the...
  12. (pant !pant! I think gasp! I am caught up pant! pant! whew!) Cecile--I grow tomatoes, red peppers, basil, cilantro, parsley, rosemary, mint, catnip, and dill in big plastic containers on my deck. Get potting soil, not dirt--it's more expensive but the plants do SO much better! Lisa--a few years ago, it seemed like ALL my old boyfriends came out of the...
  13. Susan: (I'd bettter post this now, and not wait to catch up on the million pages or so that I haven't yet read!) I'm so sorry you're having a tough time. Please hang in there, abnd try not to be hard on yourself--even people with fantastic humor (like you!) are allowed to feel down sometimes. PMS doesn't help either--I always get diarrhea just before...
  14. How about hummous? Take a can of chickpeas, drain, whirl in food processor with tahini (ground sesame seeds), garlic, lemon juice, and olive oil. Or could you make a lemon/olive oil/garlic/onion kind of dressing, and use some watered-down mashed potato flakes to make it creamy?
  15. My oldestgot incredibly fussy whenever I had Mexican food. I never did figure out what it was in the spices that bothered him. It wasn't garlic or onion, because I always cooked with them, and he only reacted to Mexican. Chili powder, maybe, or cumin? Anyway, I learned quickly never to eat Mexican while lactating!
  16. I haven't yet tried Annelise Roberts' sugar cookie recipe, but based on how fantastic her cake and chocolate chip cookie recipes are, I bet it would be good! If you haven't yet bought her cookbook, you should! Roben Ryberg (the "Miss Roben") has a cookbook out where all her cookie use a simple cornstarch/potato starch mix. Also check out: Open Original...
  17. I've never heard of creamies before, but I found this: Open Original Shared Link
  18. Just checking in on you, and adding my thoughts and prayers to everyone else's...
  19. I would not give him formula at all (that is how my son reacted to formula until my milk finally came in after 5 very long days and even longer nights). Any doctor that tells you that a 6 month old needs to learn how to soothe himself is in my opinion a total idiot. I'm sorry, I know people swear by it, but be logical: would you lock your child safely...
  20. We're planning a trip to Hershey, PA, and I was just wondering if anybody has ever tried to eat gluten-free there! Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated--thanks!
  21. I couldn't access the smilie It said, "FORBIDDEN."
  22. Welcome home, Megan! Hang in there, baby Will and parents--we're all praying for you!
  23. I've never heard of Zia--where do you find it?
  24. I used to use oil of olay, but my face now gets bright pink as soon as I put it on. I tried other brands, hand creams too, and the same thing happens. I stopped using anything, and now I look like I have my Grandma's skin. HELP???!!!
  25. Sorry I only just read this--a slice of fresh onion works, too, especially if it's chilled!)
