  1. I am concerned that my lhasa apso may have refractory sprue.
  2. I've said it before and I'll say it again: try an elemental diet formula for a couple weeks. No other foods. Tolerex or Vivonex are the hotness. They will give your stomach some time to recover. If you keep eating regular food and trying different elimination diets you most likely will never get to the heart of the problem.

ARCHIVED The First Visit To The Gi

"I doubt you have celiac disease; its very rare" "Sounds like more of an IBS condition" "Do you have anxiety? How is your job?" "Your biopsy is negative; so we can rule out celiac disease"
  4. Don't do it. When they first opened there were lots of cross contamination issues at this place. I myself got sick a couple times from eating there. I persisted in going back because where else can you get gluten-free baked goods here? Well, eventually I just gave up. I have read that they've tried to clean up their act but I won't return. On the other...
  5. Diet with only this (Open Original Shared Link) and water for 4 weeks.
  6. Try an elemental diet formula like Tolerex for a week. It should help relieve some symptoms then you can decide whether you want to stay on it for longer.
  7. You might be allergic to water. I recommend you carry an umbrella at all times.
  8. It is potentially reversible. There are two different causes but most doctors who are not in the know will chalk it up to only one. They cite nutritional deficiency which on its own can cause neuropathy, and can be reversible. Doctors who are more familiar with celiac and allergies know that there is also an immuno response that can cause neuropathy....

    ARCHIVED Vinegar

You could try rice vinegar as an alternative. its not difficult to find
  10. No prescription required. Just go online and order away. You are supposed to take it under a doctor's direction, and it is kind of a tricky thing to rely on as your only form of sustenance in terms of getting the same balance of calories as your regular diet. But its doable. There is no gluten in the two I mentioned. I think vivonex contains soy. Most...
  11. You're making a big to do about a non issue. The chances are good that even if you eat gluten and get scoped that your test will come back negative. Eat it, don't it, it makes no difference. If it feels better to not eat it then don't.
  12. You need to find a new doctor. This guy does not fully understand what is going on. If you have a complicated problem later on he will not recognize it and you'll just kick around for awhile until you figure it out for yourself.
  13. You could try an elemental diet formula like tolerex or vivonex. Eating strictly this and only this in the first couple days after you are glutened couldn't hurt. It puts the least stress of anything you could possibly eat on your digestive system.
  14. "not being able to handle too many things going on around him" This could be interpreted as a way of self describing a neurological problem caused by celiac disease. I would do everything in my power to keep him on a gluten free diet for awhile to see if this problem improves.
  15. Why don't you tell your doctor to try a 6 week trial with the poison of his choice? This is a stupid idea. If you got better when you stopped eating gluten, and you get sick when you eat gluten again that should be enough of an answer for you. The biopsy is a 50/50 shot no matter what you do and its not worth wreaking havoc on your body. People whose...
  16. Can't speak specifically to these things but I noticed that several of my blood markers adjusted within the normal range by large levels from the time I was diagnosed with celiac until my next checkup.
  17. Try using an elemental formula like Tolerex for a week and see how you feel on it. Don't eat or drink anything except water. Once you're symptoms subside, reintroduce other foods

    ARCHIVED Need A Doctor

U of Maryland has a celiac center. try there.
  20. The only expensive foods are the specialty items...desserts and crackers and junk you do not necessarily need.
  21. it can be totally irrelevant. There are people with negative biopsies who cannot stand to eat any amount of gluten. So does it matter whether their biopsy is positive for celiac or not? Not really. They know they can't eat gluten. The biopsy test is finicky...your doc has to capture a villi in precisely the right state for the lab to test. If he misses...
  22. Put her on an elemental diet formula (tolerex, vivonex) for 2 weeks. Once she has healed then reintroduce things one by one to see what she can tolerate.
  23. You could write 'I have celiac disease' on your insurance card. The hospital is sure to unearth that item from your pocket if you are inconscious.
  24. Try an elemental diet formula for a week or two. Tolerex or vivonex
