ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Good Explanation For Celiac
natalunia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
That was part of my problem too. It's been almost 2 months gluten free for me, and I am just now feeling well enough to start seriously exercising again. I am about 40 pounds overweight... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Have A Good Explanation For Celiac
natalunia replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I was told because the small intestine is the size of a tennis court if laid out flat, you could have a small area of the small intestine that is damaged/affected, with a great deal more area of small intestine unaffected and still able to absorb nutrients and fat enough to keep you within a normal to overweight range. Also, I know before I realized what... -
jennyj, what I meant was do not take the Tylenol PM... Just take the Tylenol Arthritis, then when you need to sleep, take 1-2 benadryl (no Tylenol PM) 30 minutes before you want to sleep. That way you won't be overdosing on Tylenol, but will get the same benefit as the Tylenol PM gave you in terms of sleep.
-
Why not just take 1-2 benadryls? The active ingredient in Tylenol PM that makes you sleepy is diphenhydramine. Diphenhydramine is just plain old Benadryl.

ARCHIVED Almost Had To Go To The Hospital
natalunia replied to Celia the Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I teach in Port Neches... want to move there but hubby is not hip on that idea yet. I have found Kroger in Beaumont on Dowlen has a good gluten free selection. I have asked them to start carrying Kinnikinnick breads and stuff. That was 2 weeks ago, so I don't think they would have them in stock yet. We eat at Carlito's in Beaumont on a regular basis... -
ARCHIVED Almost Had To Go To The Hospital
natalunia replied to Celia the Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Celia, I am in Southeast Texas as well, Beaumont in fact. Where are you? The last time I got glutened (last week) I came home from work and crashed in bed for 3 hours because I felt so disoriented. If you are in the Beaumont area, I'd love to have a buddy for shopping, etc. Natalie -
ARCHIVED What Is Your Ethnic Origin?
natalunia replied to Emme999's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I am 1/4 German, and a smattering of English, Acadian French, Native American (Alabama Coushatta Tribe), Irish and Lord knows what else (Paternal grandfather was illegitimate child and we know nothing of his birthfather). Oh, I'm 5'7", brown hair (dyed blonde right now), brown eyes, oval face shape, and medium complexion. I think the Native American and... -
I'm a teacher, and it's the end of the school year, so our principal (very small school- only 5 teachers) keeps bringing in donuts, banana bread, pastries, etc. about 1-2 times a week. I finally got fed up and made a gluten free chocolate cake to bring to work so I could eat something like that with everyone else. Everyone raved about it and has asked more...

ARCHIVED Cleaning A Toaster
natalunia posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I have the most expensive Kitchenaid Toaster, from before our family was gluten free. I was wondering if there is a way to clean it to where we could use it again. We used it maybe a dozen times total with regular wheat products, so it's not like it had been used a great deal before. If anyone has any experience with making your toaster gluten free again... -
Kinnikinnick makes bagels. $4.55 for 13 oz. Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link They may have a mix too.

ARCHIVED How Do College Students Deal With Absences?
natalunia replied to megsylvan2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Since I would venture to guess this is pretty late in the semester, it probably is not possible to take a drop without penalty (they call it a Q drop at my university). He will probably have to take the grade that he earned. The university may have a grade replacement policy, where he can retake the class at another time and the better grade can replace the... -
ARCHIVED Any Gluten-free Dry Cat Food?
natalunia replied to eleep's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Friskie's Dry Catfood: Chef's Blend, Gourmet Poultry, and Ocean Fish Flavors are Gluten Free, but the Feline Favorites is NOT gluten free. I can't comment on the wet food or treats though. -
ARCHIVED Dumb Family, Doctor Gone...
natalunia replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm sorry you had this happen. I was worried my family would do that too, but so far they have been accomodating.... give it a few months and I may be in your shoes. Now, what I want to know is about a gluten free pierogies recipe! My daughter is Russian, and I have a box of gluten filled ones in my freezer. I'd love to be able to make them where I could... -
ARCHIVED How Did You Acquire Celiac?
natalunia replied to tasha's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had mono in 1995, and had some GI problems since then, but nothing like the past 9 months. My husband and I caught giradia (intestinal parasite) while in Russia last June while adopting our daughter (who also had giardia). The giardia was treated, but the symptoms remained. Our GP tested my family for giradia again to see if it didn't get caught the first... -

Royal Caribbean Cruise Line
natalunia replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
I've found out that Oceania is good at accomodating from others. I should know first hand in early August. -
I was wondering if anyone here has cruised on Oceania while being gluten free. I have posted on the Oceania Yahoo board to see if anyoner there has experience with it, but thought I'd try here too. I've only been gluten free 3 weeks, and I my cruise is in late July. I plan to contact them as soon as my husband emails me our reservation number, so they can...

ARCHIVED How Soon After Eating Gluten Do You Fall Ill?
natalunia replied to againstthegrain's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have had diarrhea hit after only one hour after eating cake around 6pm (after not eating much earlier in the day). Typically though, the diarrhea hits me about 4-8 hours later. I haven't really paid attention to whether I get brain fog, but I now seem to get itchy when exposed to gluten now that I have been on a gluten free diet for 3 weeks. I usually have... -
ARCHIVED Saw A Dermatologist Today
natalunia replied to Ursa Major's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I have never had DH before, but I got glutened on Friday morning and the next morning (Saturday) I developed these pimple-like bumps all over my elbows, and my scalp itches like crazy. Could this be DH? I have only been gluten free since April 17th, but it was a definite gluten reaction on Friday. I just can't think of anything else causing this rash on my... -
So far, the Pamela's Chocolate Chocolate Chunk cookies are what he begs for. I know others have said there is a chance of CC with Pamela's products but I have been fine so far (ask me in 3 months once I've been gluten free longer if that is still the case!). I also like Pamela's Spicy Ginger and Lemon Shortbread cookies. My husband will eat pretty much anything...

ARCHIVED Foreign Exchange Students
natalunia replied to gfteen's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I am a host parent here in the US (first time this year!) for foreign exchange students. You would just have to ask. I know our exchange student we are getting (in August 2006), is not a celiac, and does eat gluten. I guess I will tell the group I host with that my house is gluten free for any celiacs who want to come to the US in the future. My exchange... -
I was diagnosed in February 1998. I had laser ablation of endometrial implants, but they have grown back. I had it all over my uterus and ovaries, but also had it on my colon and bladder. When it is on your bladder you tend to need to pee all the time during your period, and sometimes have blood in urine samples at that time. When it is on your colon, it...
