  1. I eat the Blue Diamond Smokehouse Flavor Almonds all the time with no problem. And I, too, have had the Nut Thins. Yup, they are GREAT!
  2. Well, let's go backwards. Dimetap is gluten-free (all varieties) per Clan Thompson Drug Smartlist and Mfg. McDonald's Fries: They had a problem with the oil, a lawsuit, and huge media blitz, and then they changed their formula (I think), but the testing revealed no Gluten in the oil I have no problem with them, but CC could be an issue in the store. Chocolate...
  3. Yes, perfectly normal! Everytime I'm really hungry and a box of Dunkin Doughnuts appears at the office, I say, "well, maybe I'm NOT Celiac.........and if not, I could have that doughnut!..." but I never cave into that craving, just have to distract myself. It IS frustrating to never get a positive test of any kind and so that's why I stopped trying so...
  4. A few things: You CAN have DH and still get negative blood/biopsy (I was diagnosed by Dapsone and gluten-free diet success by both GI and Dermatologist in spite of all negative tests which was attributed to about 2 months of gluten-free diet when tests were done). DH can take MONTHS to go away after a 100% gluten-free diet (which is hard to accomplish at...
  5. The inactive ingredients are what to worry about: below is cut and paste from Wyeth info contained in the product's packaging. Nothing looks to me like gluten-containing. If you are lactose intolerant, there IS lactose. You can google each one of the named chemicals and usually get an idea of the source from the first few hits. But, the below ingredients...
  6. I gave up on Centrum because I could never figure out if they were gluten-free! I started taking the Kirkland (COSTCO) version of the same thing - and I believe it says gluten-free on the label, but I'm at work and can't look at bottle. I have had some very recent low level glutening with SOMETHING, but have added a bunch of supplements from Vitacost (NSI...
  7. I use Citrucel (sp?) - actually the generic if I can find. I take the caplets - but it is available as powder and "soft chews" - I don't know ingredients of the chews and powder. They are all supposedly 100% methycellulose - at least the caplets are. And therefore it is gluten free. And there is no gas as a side effect. Not from a grain. Works well...
  8. Meringue Pies!! (I don't have recipe because I've never been successful at meringue - too much grease in my kitchen?). But they use LOTS of egg whites. LARGE omelettes for king size men for Sunday breakfast. Large quantity of french vanilla homemade icecream. That's all I can think of.
  9. Caramel Color in the USA is supposedly gluten free although outside US it can be made from Barley Malt. I have never had a problem with caramel color and I eat a lot of stuff with it in it - I don't drink soda often but I have had both Coke and Dr. Pepper and Pepsi and Dr. Pip and many others that have caramel color in them with no problem. OH, Coca-cola...
  10. And the winner is!!!! I'm not the host, but this one had me laughing hysterically: THE FRIED PENIS IN SPAIN!!! REALLY FUNNY AND EMBARASSING I BET!!
  11. I have two from when I was a kid - one for my mother and one for me. One fairly recent. My mother was a big entertainer and very good fancy-food cook. We lived in a large town in NJ in the middle of downtown and an "in-town" hotel was next door. One year when I was about 12 we were having about 25 people over for Thanksgiving dinner. My mother told...
  12. Taking Niacin in pill form and in liquid "under the tongue" form are completely different! If you've never taken it as liquid under the tongue, that is probably the reason for your reaction. The absorbtion into the bloodstream is much much faster and much much more complete (high concentration). That's why nitroglycerin is given under the tongue. If you...
  13. According to the Clan Thompson Smart Drug List, Phillips Milk of Magnesia (all flavors) status is "UNKNOWN" - the company has stated that the product has no gluten-containing ingredients, but it is made in a facility that makes gluten containing products and could be subject to CC - no statement appears about cleaning the lines or anything. I would not trust...
  14. Things I take to hotel rooms with microwave and refrigerator (I travel a lot) - I usually visit the supermarket where I'm going and take stuff back to hotel. Dinty Moore Beef Stew in Microwaveable container (pre-packaged in same isle as spaghetti, etc). Puddings (the kind for kids - read labels). Dole cups of fruit (for kids too) Fruit (mostly tangerines...
  15. According to Clan Thompson all the food dyes I looked up (all the Blues, Reds, Greens and Yellows) are Gluten Free (that's FD&C dyes which is what is used normally, including the #40 Red you mention).
  16. Oops. Just noticed you are in Canada. I'm not sure if maltodextrin is safe in Canada! Clan Thompson says that the FDA labeling law forces them to say if it comes from wheat or barley - but that's FDA in USA!!! Best to check with Canadian counterpart for labeling laws there.
  17. Hi Geoff, You're doing so well!! Maltodextrin in the USA is ok - Gluten Free. But there are other ingredients in different candies to look for. Usually Wheat-based so they might state it in an allergen statement or bold it in the ingredients list, or just list it as is. It is "Malt FLAVORING" that is a no-no - since it is derived from Barley and they...
  18. We buy a LOT of stuff at Costco. Not everything I eat has to be a "gluten free-by-design specialty item!). Here's what we buy (the list is long). Fresh fruits/vegetables/berries Pacific Organic Soups (gluten-free marked ones such as Roasted Red Pepper Tomato) Salad Dressings (when they have gluten-free ones by label) Mayonnaise/ketchup/spices/salt...
  19. Hi, This recipe was just posted yesterday or the day before on this forum. My German M-I-L and recently my sister-in-law has made these for me every year. They are GREAT. You don't find them here, just in Germany. And they are more appealing to kids than Shepherd's pie (IMHO!! ) Here's the link: Open Original Shared Link
  20. Since I never really had a FORMAL and OFFICIAL DX via a positive test - at first I duped myself into thinking that the Capn Crunch and Rice Krispies I was eating once per day, weren't "enough" to worry about. I had terrible awful DH, and no "reportable" stomach symptoms at the time. People on this forum chided me and told me that I could be doing damage...

  22. Please help! I ate a rotisserie chicken from Giant. Finally found the label afterwards, and saw it listed "flavor" as an ingredient. But it doesn't say 'wheat starch' or "gluten." It actually says Allergens: none. But I still feel crappy - I'm just wondering, did the chicken you got from Giant say gluten or anything about allergies listed on it? I'm just try

  23. I never did manage to get positive results to either bloodwork or 2 skin biopsies. Yet, photos of my rash (all over my body) sent by my Dr to some Celiac specialists at Univ of Virginia yielded a positive diagnosis coupled with Gluten Free Diet success. When I had the biopsy done I had been trying to be Gluten Free for about 9 months, but didn't know about...
  24. Search on "Taylor" in Clan Thompson (I have the newest update) and it's the only thing that comes up. The website : Open Original Shared Link also talks about them as being "Taylor Ham" (the title of the page of the link is "Contact Jersey Port Roll or Taylor Ham". So, I believe it is the same company - especially since the phone number in Clan Thompson...
  25. A hint at maybe good news coming! I checked the Clan Thompson Smart Food List and all "Taylor Ham" made by the Taylor Provisions Co, in Trenton (I checked, it's the same company) is Gluten Free, per the company's reports to Clan Thompson (actually Lani Thompson) in May of 2007. SO, if all their "ham" is gluten-free we may find out that the pork roll is...
