  1. Mango, It's an all gluten-free establishment. No gluten whatsoever, you can pick anything off the menu to your heart's content. Also, a few more suggestions when in Denver: I haven't tried it out but Beau Jo's Pizza, a Colorado pizza tradition, has a gluten-free menu. You can view it at their website under "Menu" and then "Guilt Free Guide...
  2. I've tried a few things from there, mainly baked goods- cookies, muffin, etc.. They were pretty decent, they have soy as an ingredient in a lot of their stuff though and that is a problem for me. They have an eat in cafe and bakery, with a full regular menu, all gluten free!!
  3. ravenwoodglass, I'm very sorry for your loss. Thanks for the warning, it is very serious. It just drives home how serious auto-immune conditions are, can be, and the damage they do in our bodies. I don't drink, so that isn't a problem for me. My concern is I took a lot of ibuprofen for the last 10-12 years every single month for debilitating menstrual...
  4. Thanks jersey! I do a lot of ordering on-line, so I'll check out the website. I worried about the quality of the products, but from what you list here sounds like they have a lot of reputable brands. I've been interested in the Bare Minerals make-up. Is it good stuff??
  5. Hi manja, if it is a nut butter in a jar there might be suspicious added ingredients. Nuts, in general, just seem to be really hard to digest for some with a damaged intestinal lining, as well as being a top allergen for many as well. Good morning dlp! Could you try to do a 90%/10% plan to get you started? Maybe figure something...
  6. Oh no, I thought they were a thing of the past for you! So sorry Berneses.
  7. Sorry this is off on a tangent, but.... jersey, do you order from QVC a lot?? What's it like? I am always nervous that what you see on TV isn't what you'll get.
  8. Split pea soup, yummy! I love split pea soup, it would be on the top of my comfort foods list. Make me up a bowl, I'm coming over It's so great you are turning into quite the cook Floridian. Good for you!!
  9. I also have to sing the praises of popcorn popped old fashion style with coconut oil. UMMMMM!! It's good to know I can use it as a mousturizer, the ever all-purpose coconut oil
  10. This is all very fascinating, thanks for the link Jenvan. I would like to research it more mommida too. It's interesting you mention auto-immune cirrhosis. I have been looking into cirrhosis more recently, and then the article jenvan linked me to talks about it as well, celiac and cirrhosis. ravenwoodglass, thanks for the advice, good...
  11. I have battled with night sweats too, the are definitely no fun Great news that you didn't have any last nigth Berneses, that's progress. I hope you get to the bottom of your hormonal imbalances. It sounds like your Dr. is really working with you on this. I have a really good feeling for you Continued luck!
  12. Just to add my thoughts on the reflux, I had severe reflux while eating a non-gluten diet, I suspect corn ( and corn derivatives), dairy, and sugar (or a combination of any of these synergisticly) as triggers for me. So in my experiences, and from many testimonials on this board, any allergenic food/substance can cause reflux, not just gluten. This...
  13. Christine, I don't have the knowledge to help, I wish I could. I feel in over my head with my own health problems so I understand how you feel. All I can say is just hang in there. Keep looking for the answers, I believe they will come. Maybe not all at once, but they will come. In your search you will find clues and little bits of information that...
  14. dlp, I was also taking some time off from posting. It's not so much that I am down, just not feeling myself. And my head has been swirling with all of this information and I just had to take a step back and regroup. Sorry you are feeling a little blue about all of this. Our bodies are onions, layers, complicated and complex and it is very challenging...
  15. Thanks everyone for your replies. I don't have any specific liver disease, that I know of anyway. I did have elevated liver enzymes at the beginning of my auto-immune illness (circa 1991). But I haven't been to a medical doctor since then to have any follow up tests done. I'm just doing some detective work on my own. Doctors haven't helped me...
  16. Just curious as to if there is a known connection between the health of the liver and celiac, or other auto-immune conditions. Does anyone know of any natural liver regenerators?? I know about milk thistle, but I am very sensitive to supplements at this time. Are there any foods that can naturally cleanse and build the liver? Any information is...
  17. Hi Berneses, Thanks for your reply. It is always helpful to know there are others in similar situations, dealing with similar challenges, sharing similar thoughts, concerns, fears, facing big decisions. There is comfort in knowing a source of support is out there. I also really appreciate your personal perspective on adoption. It sounds like you...
  18. Calicat, Face and lip swelling sounds like an anaphylactic (sp?) type of reaction, which is very serious, so that might be enough of an incentive for you to stay clear of dairy. But, the reaction also could be coming from some other food or substance as well, not necessarily dairy, I couldn't say for sure. For me, dairy creates a lot of mucous...
  19. Some people who are sensitive to corn cross-react to bananas. Bananas and corn share a similar protein. Also, I think it can depend upon what region of the world the bananas come from as to what they are sprayed with and how much. I really appreciate this information Calicat. This is most helpful! I think I will wait on purchasing the book...
  20. Hello brendygirl, welcome to the board! Floridian, you are doing really well! Starting any new kind of eating plan is difficult. So congratulations for hanging in there and for diving into all of this head first! How are you feeling? Have you noticed any changes??
  21. Christina, This is interesting. I was always told by my naturopath that in times of illness, auto-immunity and etc, that our bodies need, more than ever, protein to heal. It also has some kind of anti-inflamatory effect in the body, it's been so long that I can't remember the specifics. This is just another example of finding totally opposite sides...
  22. dlp, You and I sound similar. I need structure too. I'm very good at following an eating plan, that isn't the hard part for me. But I need to have it all spelled out. If it isn't spelled out for me then I crumble Also I have a hard time deciding what to do. But once I sort everything out and make a plan and get started, I stick with it. That...
  23. Girls, oh my nelly! I am so far behind, like 4 or 5 pages now Rachel, this rings so true for me too. Not the praying, because I am not really a follower of any specific religion, but when I am in a tough place I will get a sign, from the universe I believe, sending me in the direction that leads me to the next step in my journey...
  24. jersey, you are so right on this one. That is exactly my situation through all of this, one step forward and two steps back. I really do remain positive overall and keep plugging away, but this process is not without frustrations of course, and set backs. But that is life, right?!?! My problem is I have so much ingrained in my head from all of the...
  25. 1.) Have you been officially diagnosed with any blood sugar condition (ie. Diabetes type 1 or 2, reactive or fasting hypo, impaired glucose tolerance, etc.)? No 2.) If you haven’t been diagnosed, what are you symptomatic of? hypoglycemia, I think, or low blood sugar- or tat least this is what my symptoms resemble 3.) Have you had an OGTT (...
