ARCHIVED Gravy?
mommida replied to EddieJP125's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Divide the meat juices from the fat. You usually want at least 2 cups. If you don't have enough use broth, boullion to make broth, wine as liquid. Place the meat juices into a frying pan. Add salt and pepper and any other spices you prefer. You are going to heat this to a boil, but take a small amount of warmed liquid and put in a covered plastic container... -
ARCHIVED Have Dh, Should I Be Tested For Celiac
mommida replied to gooser's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I wouldn't eat gluten if you have been diagnosed all ready. The doctors think their test are so sensitive they can see any type of damage. If you do the endo and there is no new damage, take that as a positive sign you are doing a great job on your gluten free diet. Don't take it as a negative diagnoses for dh. Laura -
ARCHIVED Birthday Cakes
mommida replied to JANELOVESGRAINS's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
I made the gluten free pantry danielle's chocolate cake and made the peanut butter frosting with peanut butter cups on top and all the gluten eating relatives loved it so much they asked for the recipe. not a single crumb left! Laura If you like sponge cake, the recipe on the manechevits (probably really spelled that wrong) kosher food potato starch box... -
Gluten is added to some coffee. It is used to counter act some of the bitterness of the beans. Some people use a piece of bread to clean the grinders, takes the oil residue off the blades. I would avoid the coffees that say "special blended for a smooth rich flavor" Laura

My heart goes out to you. Take it minute by minute if you. Breathe in, breathe out. (Can you tell I've been through some hard times too?) Over 15 years ago, someone said to me, (in a not so nice way), you go to sleep, you wake up, and you got over it didn't you? Well it was true, to some degree. I friend of mine who has Lupus with at least 7 uncurable...

I have many family members who react to msg about the same as a celiac to gluten. I have always tried to avoid it. Since I went gluten free I have had msg and had no reaction. I love the fact that you are actively searching for an answer. Maybe you can help shed more light to the general population the junk that is allowed to be consumed. L

ARCHIVED The Best Gf Cookies!
mommida replied to Racheleona's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I've been pretty happy with the chocolate chip cookie recipe on the the Pamela's Ultimate Baking and pancake mix. It has almond meal in it, and the facility also makes products containing peanuts, tree nuts, and dairy. The company also donates money to Celiac and Autism support and research Organizations. Laura -
I definately agree to let hhim decide. He is going to have to make his own choices the rest of his life. I had this talk with my 5 year old. Who has no "classic symptoms". I explained that when he sees his mom sick, it is from Celiac. His choices now might make it so he will not have to go through all that pain. The good things that this disease brought...

ARCHIVED Prometheus Lab Test
mommida replied to mommyof2's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You don't have to consume gluten for the genetic test. My daughter was diagnosed through this test. My test was negative. Do you have a skin rash of any kind as a symptom of gluten consumption? The doctor is still checking if dermititus herpetiformis is detectable through the gene test. ( It seems the test was supposed to be at least 90% accurate,... -
ARCHIVED Random Daily Torture...
mommida replied to sweetie101282's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I close my eyes and smell. Then drink major amouts of water and carry around those cinnamon toothpiks. Almost like I ate a meal. Laura -
ARCHIVED Thanksgiving Question
mommida replied to lauriel234's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Make sure the turkey has not been injected with gluten. Honeysuckle white has gluten free on the label, that is a whole turkey not a self basting breast. No stuffing, unless it is gluten free. Laura -
ARCHIVED Extreme Weakness/passing Out Spells
mommida replied to a topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Could you let me know what this is because I've had this happen on occasion too. People say my eyes are open during this time. I don't know if I move or not. One thing I heard that may just be an urban legend is that artificial sweetners can cause these types of problems. I haven't had spells since I avoid artificial sweetners like the plague since... -
Yep. Had those symptoms. Went to the hospital for the headaches they were so bad. Had severe muscle cramps in my legs too. Laura

A kiss has made me sick before. My husband ate a chocolate chip cookie then kissed me, I knew I was in trouble when the kiss tasted so sweet. Laura

ARCHIVED Do I Or Don't I Have Cd?
mommida replied to mikedj's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
A gluten free diet will not hurt you. If you have one test saying there is a problem with gluten, and you feel better off gluten that would convince me. Where exactly do they do the biopsy at, when there is miles of intestine? Laura -
ARCHIVED Nutrabeams
mommida replied to tammy's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hey, My 2 year old keeps eating dog food and treats. Let me know If there is a gluten free dog food. Although her hair is nice and shiney she does have celiac disease, so the dog can go gluten free too. Laura -
ARCHIVED Questions About Iga
mommida replied to scaredparent's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter's blood tests weren't really conclusive at age 16 months. I switched her over to a gluten free diet and passed on the biopsy. She was diagnosed by genetic testing. Good Luck. Laura -
I am a hairdresser and my opinion is you should go for highlights/lowlights. As a person ages the skin tone lightens and you should go for a lighter color for your hair. You don't have to go blonde! Highlighting/lowlighting services stay off the scalp and touch-up time is a few more weeks further in between. The price is usually adjusted for three times...

ARCHIVED Cambells Tomato Juice
mommida replied to KayJay's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Do you know the heir to Campbell's fortune denounced his American citizenship to avoid paying all the taxes? Even if I have to make all my own soup< I will try not to give that company another penny! Laura -
ARCHIVED Under Eye Circles
mommida replied to ham&ex's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had the dark circles too, and they have gone away on a gluten-free diet. If I react they come back. If you still have the dark circles and positive antibodies, go back over your diet. I was using vanilla that was not gluten free. Is there a chance you are getting cross contamination from your kitchen? Laura -
ARCHIVED Bloodwork Question...

ARCHIVED How To Deal With Family Members That Don't Believe
mommida replied to Roxyk's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
They should make this a part of celiac diagnoses. What to do when your family doesn't believe you. It is easier for me to come to this conclusion, my daughter who is 2 also has celiac. Anyone who would give her something to eat that is not thinking in her best interest is harming her. You wouldn't sit back and let a child be harmed, so don't do it to... -
I've been losing weight too. I think the first weight that comes off is water weight gain from your body's defense system. Muscles are starting to develop and gain strength. From what long term gluten-free dieter's say the weight gain will come soon enough. I've been making sure I eat a Tablespoon of peanut butter a day. Laura
