ARCHIVED Natural Flavorings Etc.
mommida replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
"McCormick & Co. does not hide gluten on their labels. i.e. other natural flavor.", That is the quote I got from the company. www.mccormick.com or 1-800-632-5847 I won't eat it or let my kids eat it if I don't know. I am making the food choices for 2 toddlers. I consider it safe/unsafe depending on the companies response. I will spend extra... -
ARCHIVED First Trip To Grocery With Jacob

I want to add that McCormick does not hide any gluten on the label. ( i.e. other natural flavor) I called the company and feel safe with their response. www.mccormick.com or 1-800-632-5847 I hate grocery shopping too! Laura -
ARCHIVED Celiac With Chroic Diahrea
mommida replied to Ally2005's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I agree with what Deb has told you. There is a chance that you are also sensitive to other ingredients. I would suggest a food journal. Keep track of all the ingredients, stomach pain, and b.m. There is a lot of sources for information that debate gluten free status of products. I had to switch to a brand of vanilla that is labeled gluten free. Laura -
I just wrote to Montel. He may be more sympathetic for Celiacs because of the M.S. Did I read somewhere that a gluten free diet was suggested for M.S.? I would love to see Oprah, or Montel, cover Celiac. Both are capable of a responsible show with a major impact. Laura

I feel, from what you have written, you have been diagnosed with Celiac. Genetically, biopsy (flattened villi), Anti-Gliadin blood test, and positive dietary response to the gluten free diet. You should also look into getting tested for Diabetes, and other food allergies. Laura

I read in some of those papers that bi-polar patients will have an improvement on a gluten free diet. I was scanning through quickly and can not elaborate on "improvement". The gluten free diet is now reccomended for many other medical situations. L.

ARCHIVED Suggestions On Conceiving W/cd & Hypo-thyroid
mommida replied to pugsnapps's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I agree with all the advice given here. Good job ladies! Get a book on breastfeeding. If you are lucky enough to have a lactation consultant available, she might not have a clue how to relate to you. I had to send my nurse out of the room, to be able to spend time with my son. It is a learning experience for baby and mom. Be patient, there are many... -
ARCHIVED 2 Year Old With Cd
mommida replied to JacobsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed at 17 months, last July. Let me suggest the book Kids with Celiac by Danna Korn. The part about always having a gluten free treat substitution is priceless. It's written in simple terms and deals with a lot of the things that happen the first year of diagnoses. Laura -
Citric Acid
mommida replied to Karina's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
This is why being on a gluten free diet is more expensive for me. I will only by brand names that I trust. By that, I mean I can contact the company and get a clear answer. If the company says they can not be responsible for the companies they buy their ingredients from, it is not the company that deserves my business. Laura -
try out www.celiacspecialties.com they are located in Chesterfield, Mi. Sugar Kisses bakery in Rochester or Royal Oak, Mi. If you are in the Metro Detroit area there are a few more. If I were looking for a wedding cake for myself, I would contact The Townsend in Birmingham, Mi. It is the hotel for the rich and famous visitors to the area. I believe...

It occured to me that you will not find the price list on line. You need the price booklet you are ordering from. Has anyone looked into www.unitedbuyingclubs.com ? I have joined a group of 7 families with food allergies and organic food preferences. Deliveries are every 4 weeks. We can split cases of food amongst the group, and take advantage of the bulk discount. The web site will help you find an existing group in your area, or information to start your own. ... -
ARCHIVED Breathing Problems
mommida replied to dianegf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't breathe today either! So nice I'm not alone. This may be off the wall, but I react to Alpacha. I think it's some kind of Llama fur. The reason I'm telling you this, if there is a sweater with about 3% off the soft fluffy stuff in the same house with me that is enough for me to not be able to breathe. (My sister ordered a sweater/ skirt set... -
ARCHIVED First Steps
mommida replied to jenvan's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I suggest a palm pilot. Keep a list of gluten free medications with you at all times. (this may be so important to me because of my kids) I've pulled out the palm pilot at the urgent care for prescriptions for kid's ear infections at 2:00 a.m. The doctor asked me where to find the list. I also have the forbidden ingredients list on the palm pilot.... -

Science has not isolated every gene, therefore, we do not know all the genes associated with Celiac. It is possible a person has Celiac with a false negative test, or possibly a different subset. My genetic test came back negative(Prometheus Labs). MY daughter's positive for DQ2 and DQ8. How exactly can a biological mother and daughter have the same... -
ARCHIVED My Tests Results Are In
mommida replied to FaithInScienceToo's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I would think you should take the malabsorption results as good news. The healing that has taken place over the 6 weeks gluten free, has your body absorbing nutrients again. A colonoscopy is probably a good idea to have. Your test results bring up the possiblity of microscopic colitis. Cancer screening 2 years earlier than what you planned might be... -
ARCHIVED Undiagnosed W A Difficult Dr- Help!
mommida replied to beccathorn's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I was just reading about the genes associated with Celiac. Look back for the professor's post and link. DQ2 and DQ8 are the most widely accepted genes for for a Celiac diagnoses, not the only genes. The absence of those genes does not mean that it can not possibly be Celiac. Entero Lab checks for 2 more genes than Prometheus Labs. ( that should prove... -

ARCHIVED Breastfeeding A Possible Celiac
mommida replied to misclain's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
hap2begluten free - Good luck! I wish you a happy and healthy baby and delivery. I tried finding the answer to this question through LaLeche. I could not find any article pertaining to gluten being in breast milk. There are studies saying that breastfeeding strengthens a baby's gut and could possibly delay onset of Celiac. MY clonclusion from the lack... -

Citric Acid
mommida replied to Karina's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
All right then not a grammer issue, but not worded the way you feel comfortable with. (That is my best attempt at staying politically correct.) Some or all? Big difference. How many is many? "As if" or like? Let's just get to the point. We are here to share information. The words that are used to convey our thoughts need to be chosen carefully. ... -
Citric Acid
mommida replied to Karina's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's just another issue about grammar then? I personally have noticed problems with msg and annatto. Maybe the best way to give advice about those ingredients would be... They are listed as gluten free in the u.s., if you are unsure, check with the manufacturer keep a food diary, if you notice a particular ingredient causes problems, research... -
