  1. If you feel a gluten challenge is too extreme for your health, you could try genetic testing. You can order the test over the internet yourself, and skip the doctor's office. You have mentioned you feel better on a gluten free diet and that is one of the most important things to consider. The accuracy of the tests, in my opinion are not accurate enough...
  2. Had to open a can of paint this morning to finish a project. I definately had some mixed feelings. Is this why paint smells like sh*? Laura
  3. You are a braver woman than me! I just gave up with the doctors and went gluten free. I think the test results I got up to this point should be recycled to make toilet paper. Good luck, and I'm sure your great sense of humor will kick in any second now. Just don't start laughing so hard you fall of your can. (Can you imagine if somehow your sample was...
  4. When I was reading about the DH testing, it said that an iodine patch could be used to create the rash if the patient was unwilling to ingest gluten. Then the biopsy would be taken. Is this another medical mistake? Laura

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

Alan, Thank you for sharing your vision. I can't think of a better way to deal with a doctor that has a "God" complex. Brilliant! Laura
  6. I think for the older generations you should look for the "other" symptoms. Who had the thyroid disease, migraines, anemia, and other diagnosed symptoms of Celiac. If there were any other auto-immune related illness. Possibly the bone fractures or osteroporosis (totally spelled that wrong - too tired). What side of the family might have been short? ...
  7. You kind of freaked me out, because I private messaged with your mom a few times. Good luck and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Laura
  8. Blood work is showing enough, your body is telling you that gluten is a problem. You can go through the endoscopy and they love to throw in the colonoscopy too, to rule out any other problems or health concerns. Enjoy your gluten free, healthy life! Laura
  9. Sounds like you had a great experience and maybe that should be the start of a letter campaign to Joe's Crab Shack. celiac3270 should be on vacation, so what's Kaiti up to? Laura
  10. I had viral meningitis that was turning bacterial before I made it to the hospital. That was about 4 years ago. I was also misdiagnosed when I went into the doctor's office, and 6 hours later had a seizure in the middle of the night. Your odds of having meningitis are about 1 in 250,000. Most adults with viral meningitis do not receive medical treatment...
  11. From your post I can tell you that sounds typical of Celiac. Some call it the "honeymoon phase". My experience with Celiac testing has not been good. I think it is seriously lacking accuracy. If your wife's test came back negative, I would still consider trying the gluten free diet. Laura
  12. If you could find some space to carry Gluten free cookbooks. I have been to Border's and Barnes and Noble and they have 1-3 Gluten free cookbooks. This is Metro-Detroit loctations. Laura
  13. Make sure you do not have a fever. If you do, seek medical help. If you are still feeling worse or can not find relief, go to the doctor. Try putting your head forward, chin to chest. If that causes more pain, go to the emergency with or without a fever. (It would be significant pain.) Laura
  14. I don't believe in soy either. I makes me sick. Please research soy before you add it to your diet to replace casein. Laura
  15. You can eat salads at restaurants and bring your own dressing. Check to see if the local support group has a list of gluten free friendly restaurants. Take along your gluten free snacks and don't forget the local markets. Seems like a trip of a lifetime! Good luck. Laura
  16. So how much heat is needed to destroy the protein chain of gluten? If I knew that I would feel more comfortable in making the decision. Until I know, I am going to clean the grill. Laura
  17. Save room for the chocolate thunder from down under! I hope you have a great time. Laura
  18. Wizard brand vegetable worchestshire sauce is listed in my catalogue as gluten, and vegan. I have not tried it, so I don't know how it tastes. Laura
  19. I would send a copy of both the letter and response to the location you ate at. The location should give you a gift certificate or some other incentive to try their establishment again. It is hard enough to find places to eat when you need gluten free and you should be able to enjoy the Outback. Laura
  20. Do not go gluten free til all celiac disease testing is done! I do not believe the testing for celiac disease /gluten intolerance is as accurate as it needs to be. If it were accurate it should not take an average of 11 years for diagnoses in the US. Get the the endoscopy with biopsy, and other tests to rule out any health problems. Make sure the doctor...
  21. Well I just got ripped on for doing the frozen mac n cheese, but seriously I am learning how to can. I just don't like mac and cheese that much to take an interest. If you want to learn how to can-Just find those hearty souls who do it, and they are more than happy to help you learn - by doing. In michigan there is a special berry that only grows in...
  22. We've been eating the frozen rice mac n cheese from Amy's. In the micro for 4 minutes. Laura
  23. What type of testing did you have done for your thyroid? Hashimoto's thyroiditis is diagnosed through blood test - ultra sensitive tsh (thyroid stimulating hormone) T3 and T4 levels should be looked at , thyroid uptake/functioning, and ultrasound of the thyroid. For the record, it is speculated that underactive/hypo - thyroid is in the top 10 undiagnosed...
  24. You would add it for texture. I was wondering if it has helped anyone making their own bread or baked goods have a better texture. L.
  25. Has any one tried the Orgran gluten substitute? It is listed as... wheat free gluten free dairy free yeast free no MSG no cane sugar added vegan The ingredients are... Superfine rice flour, pea extract, maize starch, potato starch, vegaetable derived gums cellulose: guar gum, methylcellulose, carboxymethylcellulose, monoglycerides from vegetable...
