  1. Both of my kids were introduced wheat/gluten at the proper time to be in that window. Both of my kids are now on a gluten free diet for life. Laura
  2. Hi ann, Getting a diagnoses for Lupus is very difficult. I would get a second opinion from a specialist. Lupus can have such a variety of symptoms, but to have a classic "flare" of the "butterfly" rash should reallybe taken seriously. The gluten free diet would also be helpful for Lupus, because of the multiple food sensitivites connected to it. It took...
  3. My family was genetic tested at Children's hospital in Detroit in the early 70's. My growth gene and my brother's were a match. He grew to 6'4". I pretty much stopped growing in fourth grade and I am 5'1". Laura Female hormones usually account for @ 5" shorter than males.

    ARCHIVED "celiac Isn't Hereditary"

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time. I agree with nini and ianm. Conspiracy theory! Laura
  5. Vincent , What a cutie you have there! The tests for Celiac are measuring the amount of damage is happening to your body when you ingest gluten. You most eat the gluten for the damage to show up. Get the testing done then start the gluten-free diet. Laura
  6. I agree with Merika's post, but I feel the need to add that if the genetic test was negative, you still can not rule out Celiac. Considering every test has a 30% chance of error. The genetic test was just for the known Celiac genes. Not every gene has been isolated, and genetic testing is still new. Laura
  7. Old El Paso salsa made me sick. I stick with Amy's. Laura
  8. Donna, you might think this is funny... When you list your house for sale, you say spacious, modern, gluten-free kitchen. I was home for a walk through and I almost told the lady rubbing her hand down the counter top, "It's a gluten-free kitchen", L.
  9. The mmm...gluten "incident" happened because it needed to happen. Newbies have got to go through having their complete lifestyle changed. Symptomatic or not. Positive for life. You can never just pop a snack in your face without checking for ingredients. Some people are going to handle it differently. It was out of control, but the controversy made...
  10. I saw an episode of Regis and Kelly where Kelly asked Regis if he could sample a cocktail. He definately has some type of special diet he follows. L
  11. I know you said you want a moister bread, but try toasting gluten-free bread. It's makes it a lot more palitable. Other than that straight out of the oven is the best. Have you tried Chebe bread mixes yet? It is a lot denser, egg type bread. L.
  12. I hate to tell you but the tests for Celiac at your child's age are just not that accurate. L.
  13. I use Smartwater. Ingredients are... vapor distilled water+ electrolytes (calcium chloride, magnesium chloride and potassium bicarbonate) They just made a new product FruitWater it has some crystalline fructose in it, if you don't mind sugar. Most importantly it has magnesium in it and it helps with cramps. Maybe a hot water bottle would help. Most...
  14. If the villi are damaged then you should avoid dairy until the villi have healed. The tip of the villi is involved with digesting lactose. Good luck with your endoscopy! Our thoughts and prayers will be with you. Laura
  15. mmm...gluten, Maybe you should go eat some gluten. People here could help you. It is ultimately up to you. How do you feel about yourself being rude to a knowledgable 14 year-old who has proven to be more mature than you? Laura
  16. What a little freak!!? What kind of cruel life he must be living. He probably does get beat at home. I wish a very itchy rash in a very private place on him. celiac3270, you are an inspiration for me and my kids. Love ya, Laura
  17. I guess I'm lucky to be highly sensitive. I know when my children will react. I've learned what it feels like to react and little tricks to help feel better quicker. I know how important the diet is. I know how to prevent suffering in their lives that I have gone through. Mmm..gluten and Magnus, It is your decision. I hope that your life will involve...
  18. Well for the coffee grinder cleaning tip, it was on a Martha Stewart Living segment with some coffee guru. He owns some coffee shops, probably on the east coast area. Sorry I didn't specify that you never leave the bread crumbs in the grinder. It is a safe way to clean the resin off the sharp blades. Place bread in and activate grinder. Dump the crumbs...
  19. I have been glutened by kissing. I met my husband at a wake during the middle of the day. He ate a quick lunch there and needed to go back to work. He kissed me as he was leaving. I asked him why his kiss tasted so sweet, and he told me he just ate a cookie. I did not eat anything at the wake, and I was sick later. He shaved his mustache off after that...
  20. Yep, I've noticed that too. Hair and nails are a good clue to a person's overall health. My nails are still showing grooves and pits, possible B12 defiency and the ends are still curling under, possible iron defiency. My hair has been sprouting and so far I have twice the amount. In the first year of gluten free every 3 to 4 months new hair growth was...
  21. I'm glad to know everything went well. Welcome to the gluten free club. Laura
  22. Get the testing done while you are hopefully still on a gluten diet. It can rule out the long term problems associated with chronic "D". A gluten free diet can be helpful for IBS. A clear cut diagnoses will give you a peace of mind (after time grieving for a previous life). Testing was not a good experience for me. I went on a gluten free diet before...
  23. Except for the cleaning tip to use a piece of bread to clean a coffee bean grinder. It absorbs the oils that go rancid. Vinegar is used to clean coffee makers too. In my opinion eating out is always a concern for cross contamination. Laura
  24. I've been using the Lo'real Professional products. Majablonde, Majarel, Dia color, Pure Platine, Crescendo, etc. They are in my opinion the most conditioning products on the market. I quickly scanned through the ingredients and have not found any red flags yet. This is what you need to do. You MUST do a patch test 48 before. You need to determine...
  25. I have to agree with Merika, try and stick with the breastfeeding. It should be the easiest thing for your baby to digest. The weight gain/ growth of your child would be even slower if you tried formula. I have to say that my daughter definately had symptoms when cereals were introduced. Even when she was breastfed before. The testing is not very accurate...
