  1. Thank you for pointing me to the dna article. I have to show it to my husband, our daughter has both genes. The pediatrician's office said it was possible to have both genes show up from "a genetic mutation". I told him it was more of a reason to get tested himself, even though I am symptomatic. Some people don't want to get diagnosed. Laura
  2. You sound confident that you are gluten free - Are you sure it wasn't the guar gum or xanthan gum causing the problem? Those are gluten-free version of gluey texture. Eggs? Egg white protein? Keep a food diary. I switched to a brand of vanilla that lists itself as gluten free, 100% pure vanilla, and voila - no more unexplained tummy rumbles. Before...
  3. I think that is why it was so hard to get diagnosed. I was a competitive figure skater. They think you are just hiding an eating disorder. I've seen figure skaters break bones just skating, not falling down or crashing into the boards. Bone deformities of the feet, legs that look the rickets, diminished brain function, and emotional meltdowns. Individuals...
  4. We need Celiacs to run for political posts. The undiagnosed Celiacs need it too, they just don't know it yet. Start small/local and go from there. Love you guys, Laura
  5. I agree with what Kaiti posted and if you contact a Celiac Support group in your area for a reliable Gastro. with Celiac experience. L.
  6. When I was researching into this diet, I found an article that said some kids have an addiction to wheat. Not to put a label on any child but it was about autistic children being put on the gluten free, casein free diet. The tantrums and head banging desciptions are the same. Remember, you are now telling your child they can not have what you gave them...
  7. The last statistic I read was a first degree relative of a celiac disease individual has a 1 in 10 chance of having celiac disease. Like Richard posted, tests are not very accurate for a patient in you child's age range. Every first degree relative should be screened. Consult another Ped. Gastro. Laura
  8. This is why I bought a cookbook binder. When I find a great gluten-free recipe, I'm putting a copy in 2 handmade cookbooks for my kids. Can you think of any words from the title? When I'm out and about I'll look for it. L.
  9. Just ran across this in a cookbook, "Ingerdient Alert-Most, if not all, yellow-colored cheese contains annatto. It is not well-tolerated by some gluten-free individuals." When you are first learning gluten-free, you are getting overloaded with information, and the wording can make such a huge difference. In my opinion get a food diary and keep a journal...
  10. I found joining a co-op was a money saving option that has worked for me. You can check Open Original Shared Link . You can start your own group or join an existing group, if their guidelines are suitable for you. I was lucky to find a more experienced gluten free family that helped steer me towards better tasting products. We split cases of products...
  11. I went to the gluten-free food fair on Saturday. Whole Foods market was there with samples of the gluten-free bakery items. They were great! The products are in the store available this week! If anyone wants doughnuts, I suggest Celiac Specialties in Chesterfield, Mi. If you live downriver, Celiac Products www.celiacproducts.net they are in Wyandotte...
  12. Whole foods in Michigan launched the gluten free bakery items this week! They were at the gluten free food fair on Saturday and passed out samples. Wow, tasted great! For the people that were looking for doughnuts, I suggest Celiac Specialties in Chesterfield, Mi. Laura
  13. My daughter is the same age as your daughter, she was diagnosed last July. I would like to reccomend the book, Kids with Celiac Disease by Danna Korn. It can help with the some of the feelings that might be happening for you and your daughter. The biggest tip that came from the book and can't wait for you to get the book. Get your gluten free replacement...
  14. You might be Celiac if.. You know who Bette Hagman, the Gluten free gourmet, and Connie Sarros, the Gluten Free Guru are and care. You might be a member of the gluten free forum if you want celiac3270 and Kaiti to run for president of the U.S.A. L.
  15. I get that too. I describe it like being scratched from the inside out. L.
  16. What you have written makes perfect sense. The blood test panel on the gluten free diet results, would tell you if gluten was the issue. The blood test is done again at a 6 month check after diagnoses to see if the gluten free diet is being followed correctly. I have a nagging feeling you might have some issues with the doctor. Have this doctor explain...
  17. I think you should talk to the doctor who will be doing the endo. with biop. Have the Dr. explain more of the procedure to you. How many cases of Celiac has he/she diagnosed? What exactly is he/she looking for? Can the Dr. show you slides? Nothing would be worse than having the Dr. say something very ignorant, right after the procedure was done. Let...
  18. All the suggestions are great. Have you looked into the slow cooker/crockpot? You can have dinner hot and waiting for you. It makes it easy to have the quantity for frozen leftovers or tomorrow's lunch. Splurge for the gluten free mix for a dessert and freeze into single serving sizes. If you make bread freeze it 2 slices to a bag for a sandwich. It...
  19. No problem. Tell me how they work out for you. L.
  20. Gluten Free Kitchen - Roben Ryberg Funnel Cake 1/2 cup potato starch 1/2 cup cornstarch 2 tablespoons sugar 1/4 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum 1/2 teaspoon vanilla pinch of salt 1 egg 3/4 teaspoon vinegar 3/4 cup milk 2cups vegetable oil for frying 1/2 cup powdered sugar for topping Directions...
  21. If hindsight is 20/20, there are things I noticed with my daughter that could have been the signs for Celiac. I was just going through the onset of "classic" symptoms myself, after being diagnosed with IBS for years. Newborn, day 2, first attempt at formula feeding... Projectile vomiting formula. Distended abdomen. These were also notice in the first...
  22. Does anyone else drive a Jeep? Camp Jeep is going to be in Penn. this year. The start date is shortly after the gluten free day at Hershey's. I'm checking to see what kind of gluten free foods might be avilable for camp jeep. Chrysler does a great job with this there is a family atmosphere, driving lessons, entertainment, crafts, activities of all kinds...
  23. Can I get that fruit dip recipe from you? Not preggo but just in the mood for some fruit with dip. I haven't found a recipe and I don't trust the pre-made ones at the store. Marziette's customer service wasn't any help either. Why do they bother to respond when they won't answer the question? Laura
  24. Mc Cormick's will not hide gluten on their labels, i.e.modified food starch, natural flavors. L.
  25. If women are so bad, why would God, in his infinite wisdom entrust the Saviour to mankind to the care of a woman? Laura
