ARCHIVED Vaccines
mommida replied to gfmelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
O.K. Let me clarify this for you. A person on a gluten free diet has to read every label for food and products they are going to ingest. People who notice products on their bodies cause reactions need to read the labels too. Every person should pay attention to what is being put into their body. There are safe guidelines for vaccines. They may have a... -
ARCHIVED Vaccines
mommida replied to gfmelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Doctors usually don't memorize the ingredients of vaccines. I would have to go in favor of the ingredient list over what the doctors professional opinion of what the ingredient list would be. Does that make sense to you? L -
ARCHIVED Vaccines
mommida replied to gfmelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Don't take a nurse, doctor, Richard, Richard's doctor, or my word for your information, if you have a vaccine concern. The package insert will have ingredients, contraindications, adverse reaction information, and effeciency statistics. If you are receiving a single dose or from a multi-dose also can have an effect. When you go on a gluten free diet you... -

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results, Help!
mommida replied to pixiegirl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not a doctor. You have 2 genes that are strongly associated with Celiac and other known auto immune diseases. Since the paragraph states your children will have at least one of these genes passed on to the them, would mean recessive and dominant HLA gene. ( That is just layman terms as I understand them.) It also stated that you would be more likely... -
ARCHIVED Vaccines
mommida replied to gfmelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I replied in regards to the vaccine, not the t.b. test. Vaccines work on the premise of a "normal immune" system. Celiac Disease is an auto immune disease. If you would like to read the vaccine package insert, some do say "may exacerbate auto-immune related illness." It should be this person's personal and PRIVATE DECISION! This person is asking for... -
ARCHIVED How Long Before You Figured It Out?
mommida replied to Twister2's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've been trying to be gluten free for about 12 months. I forgot to check out the lip gloss I wore yesterday. No need to call the manufacturer, since I reacted to it. The thing that bothers me most is the codex system rating for "gluten free" foods. As long as the product is within the range of parts per million it is labeled gluten free. Laura -
ARCHIVED Vaccines
mommida replied to gfmelissa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What state are you in? It may be illegal for your company to require vaccination. You need to read the vaccine package insert before you get the vaccine. Look under contraindictions, it may say it will exacerbate auto-immune diseases. Vaccination should be your decision. I feel having an auto-immune disease is contraindiction for all vaccines, regardless... -

ARCHIVED Can Anyone Relate To This?
mommida replied to strommsa's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Do you have an enlarged thyroid? Blood tests need to be specific and I would get to an endocronologist. If you are planning on getting and endoscopy, you need to be on a GLUTEN DIET. Do the test before you try the gluten free diet. I would try the entro lab test, before I would trust just the antibodies tests. The gluten free diet is reccomended for... -
ARCHIVED Question On Enterolab....
mommida replied to Tasha2004's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Having type 1 diabetes would be enough of a reason to get screened. IMO I agree with the tests suggested. It seems a lot cheaper than having all the doctor visits and biopsies. If the tests came back negative, trying a gluten free diet would not hurt you. The gluten free diet is being reccomended for a variety of other ailments now. Laura -
An enlarged thyroid, goiter, can be a symptom of an auto-immune thyroid disease. I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. The thyroid enlargement for Hashimoto's shows that one side of the butterfly shape gland is larger. Grave's disease is the other more common auto-immune thyroid disease. I had a whole book on the subject, but loaned it out and never got...

I have hashimoto's thyroiditis. (auto-immune thyroid disease) It took over 10 years to get that diagnosed. Go to a specialist. If I didn't have the thyroid uptake test, ultrasound, and a blood test that screened for at least 5 different things I wouldn't have been diagnosed. Do not start taking any over the counter thyroid replacement hormone or seaweed...

You could also be anemic. During pregnancy glucose testing, I nearly passed out with the same symptoms. The glucose challenge was normal but the iron levels were low. Laura -
I never thought I would find more patience and understanding from strangers, rather than my own family. My family who should be tested for their own health, will not. I could complain about them for hours. This is my body and now I know how to keep myself healthy. No one will put my health at risk. My family is not allowed to touch my food. I will bring...

ARCHIVED Joint Pain
mommida replied to I'm more celiac than you's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I had joint pain in my feet since I was 14. I had a radical buniondectomy when I was 23 and the doctor said my case was worse than more 70 year olds. I went gluten free at 33 and that's helping. -

I bought a Honeysuckle white. It has GLUTEN FREE in big bold letters right on the front. A company that has addressed customer concerns with a clear statement deserves my business. Tastes great too! In the past I have personally injected turkey with gluten. I did not know it at the time. They sell syringes in stores for this purpose. When eating... -
ARCHIVED Low White Blood Cell Count.
mommida replied to mswift's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I would also like more information on low white blood cells. My aunt had this problem her whole life and was diagnosed "with some rare blood disorder". She ended up dying from luekemia, which is believed to be caused from the medication prescribed to generate white blood count. My generation of the family is the first to be diagnosed with celiac. My mother... -
ARCHIVED Frustrated - Advice Please
mommida replied to Finlay's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
After reading most of these post, if I had to do this over again for testing, I would test through enterolab. www.enterolab.com Send the test in and try the gluten free diet while I waited for the results. If I felt that much better off gluten then I wouldn't really care what the results were except for validation. Genetic testing is newer technology... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vs. Ibs
mommida replied to billy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well IBS diagnoses stands for unexplained diarhea. Thats like saying every airplane is a UFO. The big moron (oops I meant to say gi doctor) said I was "too young to have celiac" and not to worry about being on a gluten free diet for almost 3 months before the biopsy, "because the test was so sensitive that they would be able to catch it if it was c d."... -

Give her the information, and ask her why she thinks hurting your child ("a little bit") would be o.k. Spelt is gluten. ARCHIVED Celiac Vs. Ibs
mommida replied to billy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I've been diagnosed with ibs for about 13 years. My daughter was diagnosed with celiac by genetic testing. We are on a gluten free diet (about 9 months) and doing a lot better. Didn't have positives on the bloodwork tests. Staying on gluten for the rest of the testing was not a healthy option. My daughter was hospitalized for dehydration, she was about...
