  1. Thank you for the interesting article. Currently I have been looking into more of the genetic testing aspect of Celiac. I am still at the beginning stages of fetomaternal microchimerism research. Could this be a possible reason for Celiac being triggered by a pregnancy? Any one else have any articles or interest in this? Laura
  2. I didn't think it worked very well as the substitute for a campbell's soup. For one thing the color of it is kind of a grey taupe. It tastes pretty good, but nothing like campbell's in taste or consistency. Laura
  3. I will be on the look out for "A personal touch with Celiac". Thank you for the suggestion. The Danna Korn book hits on and describes a lot of things you don't think of when you get the diagnoses. Your family refusing to get tested even when they are experiencing obvious symptoms. Your child's reaction, and good solution to the situation of not being...
  4. I suggest the kids with celiac by danna korn for newly diagnosed parents. More for the emotional understanding of the changes the gluten free diet brings into your household. As for the diet, you have got to read the label. You have know the companies official policy on what they mean by other natural flavors, modified food starch, fillers and binders...
  5. When I was on the gluten free diet for the first year, I was reacting to annatto! I have since been able to tolerate it. Laura
  6. As was all ready posted, I would like to add my daughter couldn't make it through 2 weeks on gluten to try and have the tests done. She ended up in the hospital with dehydration, from the vomiting and "D" from trying to eat gluten. Granted she was about 16 months old at the time and dehydration can go from bad to worse so quick in little kids. She was...
  7. I didn't test positive on my genetic test either. Strange thing that my biological daughter tested positive for DQ2 and DQ8. Prometheus labs would not do the test over again and said that the test has a 2% error rate, genes mutate, and every single blood draw test has a 30% error rate. My daughter and I have had a 100% improvement on the gluten free diet...
  8. That was a good article, but I think they unfortunately missed the chance to put Celiac Disease in the article. They used the term wheat allergy and then gave statistics of Celiac related problems from gluten exposure. I'm glad to see that there is at least one forward thinking school district in the U.S. Laura
  9. The magnesium and calcium work together for absorbsion. I've had a lot of muscle cramping in the past and the thing that works best is drinking Smartwater by Glace, it has minerals added to it and can help with any muscle cramping that may be from dehydration. The company now makes fruit water with calories and flavor. Laura

    ARCHIVED Thyroid Drs?

The tests can be ordered by your doctor then have the results of the tests sent to the endocrinologists for diagnoses. Auto-immune thyroid disease has a higher occurance with Celiac patients. Search for Graves Disease (over active thyroid symptoms). Grave's is the most common Celiac connection. Another search Hashimoto's thyroiditis ( can flip-flop from...
  11. My gluten-eating extended family can't get enough of these brownies! They have been hounding me for the information to buy them. At family gatherings, it's the only thing they want me to bring. Pamela's brownie mix is about the same, but there is a variation directions for a bundt cake. Love this mix! Laura
  12. Half of my family is from the are of Europe that kept changing from Polish, German, Russian. It seems to fit in the "northern European genetic auto-immune disease" description of Celiac. (One family members birth certificate (1800's) has all the markings of Poland, but the ancestors say were are German.) Interesting that the Polish community center was...
  13. Yes. My daughter was eating more food and calories at the of 11 months than I was eating. She was losing weight and continuing to slowly grow inches in height. Laura
  14. "THe kit can be utilized in either the comfort of one's own home or at a doctor's office, and the results are available in approximately 10 minutes. cdScan is able to analyze a tiny sample of whole blood, serum or plasma for IgA/IgG/IgM antibodies against human Tissue Transglutaminase (tTG) and IgA antibodies against gliadin.
  15. The older kids are giving her crap about how it is "unfair" that she gets the food she gets. I went off........."well, it isn't fair that Kathryn can't eat Lucky Charms, or brownies, or twix, or chocolate milk, or blueberry muffins either, but she got over it, and so can you!!!" (all of those things were on his breakfast tray) He was crying now. He...
  16. Hey sorry I dropped the ball on providing enough information. Got a little hectic around here. Thank you Claire for posting more thorough information. Laura
  17. WOW! York Nutritional Laboratories has introduced a finger-stick rapid test kit designed to detect the antibodies associated with Celiac AND gluten intolerance. Open Original Shared Link Read the article released today!
  18. Read the vaccine package insert. Know the laws regarding vaccines. Do the research and make an informed choice. Laura
  19. Show her all the things she can eat. Try and concentrate on the positives of the gluten free and casein free diet. Get a list of all the well liked, popular gluten-free food items. There are gluten-free cf ice cream alternatives, get them. When she sees they can taste good and won't cause her extreme pain she will adjust to the diet. Laura
  20. I'm very picky about what I eat. It was a waste of money and had a very bad after taste. There are plenty of other gluten free options. Laura
  21. I tried the Glutino pizza bread sticks, and hated them. Laura
  22. There is a proven tooth enamel diffeciency along with this. I fell when I was in second grade and broke both my front teeth. The one front tooth broke and exposed the root. I had my first root canal in second grade, 2 more root canals on the same tooth about every 8 years. My first apiodectomy (spelling is probably wrong on that , but it is basically...
  23. I was having a problem with Tone's (which everyone says is gluten-free). I switched to Flavorganics and haven't had any problems since. I kept a food journal and even recreated the same menu, with the vanilla being the only difference.
  24. Welcome to the board. Everyone has all ready posted much of the same things I would have said. Your doctor will probably put a diagnoses of IBS on your sheet, otherwise he/she won't get paid. The scariest thing; when we were trying to get our daughter diagnosed, the doctors were going to test her for everything but Celiac. She was going to be tested for...
