  1. I have been trying to reply to some PM and am getting an error message too. I apprceciate every ones PM an am trying to get a reply out to you as soon as possible. IanM thank you so much for the information. It really helps a lot. Laura
  2. Please look into a co-op. I found 4 other Celiac familys to split bulk gluten free specialty items with. The one I joined is www.unitedbuyingclubs.com with the advice on the great products and what not to waste the money on helped so much in the beginning too. Now I stock up when the items I use go ON SALE from the co-op. I've never seen the health food...
  3. I've been using coccoa pebbles, just because they are a lot cheaper than the specialty cereals. Different grades of the coconut oil have different tastes. If I remember right the spectrum brand brand didn't taste like coconut. Laura
  4. I think Jen has given you the best advice here. Most people on iron supplements get the big "C". You can't be absorbing any of it. L.
  5. Things happen for a reason and you heard this news TODAY, the day before this surgery. She is scheduled for treatment at the hospital. They can do the blood tests. Did they do any pre-op. blood work yet? There can be more signs of Celiac in those results. (Vitamin defiency and anemia.) You've got a lot of research to do in a little time to get it done...
  6. I think the doctors should take a look and make sure there are no physical issues. (make sure the "tubes" and flaps are well formed.) At least ease your mind some, so you can get some rest while still taking care of your baby. I have heard the Medula pump in style is good, definately the hospital grade is best, and there is a new one from Playtex that is...
  7. Have a great time. I'll say a prayer you stay safe. Laura
  8. The major formula brands have an allergen free formula. It's been a while since formula days over here. I can't remember the specific names (or spell them ). Look for the brand's website and register for coupons. My Celiac daughter could not tolerate ANY formula. It was a projectile mess! I know it can be very hard to breastfeed, but could you try some...
  9. How do I get to that site?
  10. O.K. I hate doctors. I think you should only go to Dr.s who are highly reccomended by people you know. There is supposed to be an online source for checking if your doctor has any complaints against them. I think it might be baddoctor.com. Well most people that know me ask what doctors I have been to, to make sure they don't go there.
  11. We had the genetic testing through Prometheus Labs. Genetic testing is harder to get insurance companies to cover. Depends on how much your insurance will cover. Call the insurance company and speak to them directly. I wasn't that happy with Prometheus when I heard that EnteroLab will screen for at least 2 more things and has a cheaper price. The major...
  12. I heard the rice flour cooks slower, so I definately agree with turning down the temp. and cooking longer. I just switched to a pampered chef stone ware bread pan and it seems to be more to my liking. Crispy crust. L.
  13. I believe the answer is the mixture is too moist also. While you are still experimenting, try cooling the loaf on its side. It seems a little more appealing to eat. L
  14. So are you casein free too?
  15. I wonder if we start screening kids for Celiac, will the diagnoses rate for ADD and ADHD decline? Do other people suspect gluten reactions are being diagnosed as ADD and ADHD? L.
  16. I would get the kids tested, depending on their ages. I would not put my body through a gluten challenge for a biopsy, that could miss the damage. My six year old son has been having dental problems from the enamel defects associated with Celiac. He had no typical symptoms. He has been gluten free since his sister's diagnoses, and his negative test results...
  17. Finally main stream reporting on this subject!! Hopefully more people will do some more research on the subject. L
  18. That explains the brain fog/headaches from anemia. So are these treatments different from a blood transfusion? Are there any other options available?
  19. I liked how Kaiti handled her friends telling her to pick the cheese off a pizza and eat it. She grabbed some cleaner and poured it on the pizza and told them to take it off and eat the pizza. L.
  20. I wish I could give you more conclusive information, but more research needs to be done on this. Check for Tiffany's post in Urine is it safe? on the contents of gluten in breastmilk. The most recent articles on when to introduce gluten into the infant's diet,if I remember right is 5 to 7 months. L.
  21. When my kids eat gluten, look out! They do not act like themselves at all. They act like the just found out the world is going to end and nobody understands a thing they are saying, highly stressed and aggitated. Laura
  22. I don't know about keeping it a secret from a year old. Children are very adaptable. If your child notices a difference on a gluten free diet, that the stomach pains are gone they will probably adhere to a strictly gluten free diet for life. My six year old avoids gluten like the poison it is to him. Laura
  23. Checking into this. BUMP
  24. Chebe bread is gluten free yeast free. I would probably introduce it like a cheese bread stick dipped into pizza sauce. It takes a while for to get over the wheat craving. Laura
  25. One reason a woman could have a higher chance of an auto-immune disease, like Karen said, is bearing children. For more information you could search for fetomaternal microchimerism. This is when cells of the fetus pass to the mother. Interesting that these are stem cells absorbed into the mother's bone marrow. It could explain why women live longer than...
