ARCHIVED Went To The Gastroenterologist And Now Im Confused And Embarrassed
mommida replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
DH can cause the same type of damage to the villi, so it means the same thing - you need to be on a gluten free diet for life. Finish any testing so you can start on a gluten free diet. I think the Dr. you went to was a very ignorant ____. You are at a higher risk for developing an auto-immune thyroid disorder. Both are valid reasons why your weight... -
ARCHIVED Jello
mommida replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Patti and Elfkin, I thought you were talking about the Kraft Jello gelatin, but I wanted to be clear to any one else. I'm pretty bad about looking at the last post first and then deciding if I want to read the entire posting. Laura -
ARCHIVED Gluten-free Diapers And Wipes
mommida replied to kempy99's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You are doing the right thing by asking questions, and reading all the labels that come into your life. My kids were sensitive to a lot of diapers, for reasons other than gluten. The plastic in the waist band and around the legs caused rashes. Laura -
ARCHIVED Jello
mommida replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
There are different brands of jello/gelatin dessert. In the hospital, they said their gelatin dessert was not gluten free. Jello brand has captured the common language. Do you say, "Will you please hand me a facial tissue, or kleenex"? Kleenex is a brand name synomonus with the product, like jello. Laura -

ARCHIVED White Rice Flours Instead Of...
mommida replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
At holiday time when I needed to make a lot of cookies on a deadline, I used Kinninck gluten free flour mix. It was awesome! The cookie dough I usually have a hard time with worked better gluten free. I did add some Or-gran gluten free gluten replacement. (It has ground peas in it!) People swear it is cheaper buying your main flours in bulk and making... -
ARCHIVED White Rice Flours Instead Of...
mommida replied to gointribal's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
If you want to subsitute straight rice flour, 1 cup wheat flour = 7/8 cup rice flour (brown or white) Or use a mix of 3 cups white rice flour 1 cup potato starch flour 1/2 cup tapioca flour The mixture will probably be better, because all rice flour can be gritty. -
ARCHIVED Symptoms In Toddlers?
mommida replied to prinsessa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I would call the doctor today. Your ped. may not want to deal with this diagnoses at all and may refer you to a ped. gastro. It is not TMI information about the undigested food in the stool. It is a serious symptom. Laura -
ARCHIVED 100% Gluten Free Market Michigan

Chef Andrew has opened this one store. His dad was diagnosed with Celiac a few years ago. Maybe he would consider sharing his experience for others to open up shops or consider selling franchises. Laura -
ARCHIVED Advice On Testing Or Not
mommida replied to Kristie's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The first part of testing is a FULL Celiac panel. My daughter did very well having blood drawn. She must have endured a lot of pain from having Celiac in general, so a small needle poke was nothing major to her. With the symptoms you have described, I would try the gluten free diet even if the test results came back negative. Laura -
Some of the sensitive toothpastes can help fill in the microscopic holes in the enamel. For a while the dentist told me to press the paste onto my teeth and leave it overnight. Laura

ARCHIVED Mayonaise
mommida replied to Squall's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It took me a year on the gluten free diet before I could tolerate distilled vinegar among other thingsthat tend to show up on the controversial lists of safe foods. From what you stated you are pretty new to the diet and still need to heal. Keep a food diary to help keep your sanity, gluten may not be the cause of all your stomach upset. Laura -
NO. USA. I might consider visiting a gluten free option McD in Europe, though. Laura

ARCHIVED Symptoms In Toddlers?
mommida replied to prinsessa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter had "classic symptoms" so I will tell you about my son. Picture of health, except for constipation and a slight rash on his arms, sometimes on his face. Pediatricians always said that boys just seem to have more constipation problems and the rash was nothing to worry about. Damage can be happening internally and there may be no signs, but get... -

ARCHIVED Born And Raised... First Post....
mommida replied to celiacuser12345's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think of my diagnoses day as liberation day. I have the control of my health, by just watching what I eat. I also have been trying new and different cooking and baking, and don't get too hung up on failing a new recipe. There is a known connection to calcium deposits on the brain for those with gluten sensitivty or Celiac. (I don't know if I have worded... -

Stay on this site and you will probably learn more than you ever wanted to know about yeast. How did your bread turn out? If it ended up being a brick that would definately be normal. I end up slicing the bread while it is still warm to get it in the freezer faster. Two slices per freezer baggie for quick sandwiches. The best advice is to TOAST gluten... -

Would it be possible to go to a chain restaurant that has a gluten free menu? P.F. Chang's, Outback Steakhouse, Carrabarra's, Legal Seafood are some of the places I can think of. Post fruity pebbles and coccoa Pebbles are gluten free. Gluten is in BARLEY, wheat, and rye, and oats are usually considered too cross contaminated to be safe. Laura -
How sweet is that!!? Isn't life really about taking the time to enjoy the "little things"? Getting diagnosed changes a lot things in our lives, but learning to appreciate the little things is the greatest blessing in disguise. HAPPY VALENTINES DAY! Laura
