  1. I would start by contacting your local Celiac support group for a doctor in your area familar with celiac disease. Get the blood test, follow the specialists advice, no matter how that goes you can always try the gluten free diet. There are just too many people doing better on a gluten free diet, than are actually diagnosed. L.
  2. We have been using the chocolate Almond Breeze and love it. I've just seen unsweetened Almond breeze listed as an option in my co-op. (vanilla and chocolate) Laura
  3. Wlecome! I hope that you will look back on the day you were diagnosed as your day of Liberation. You will have the knowledge to keep yourself healthy. As for advice... Keep a food journal - you may react to different foods other than gluten, and many times you can make yourself crazy trying to figure out what made you sick. Always keep a gluten free...
  4. I totally understand being paranoid about eating. If I have a major event coming up I dread every meal closer to the event. The last thing I need is a gluten reaction. But you have to eat to stay healthy and have energy to enjoy what you are doing. Take the time to keep a food journal, to help track down gluten mishaps or other food sensitivities. The...
  5. You are always welcome. We will be sure to let you know about safe yummy things for your nephew to eat. I understand a celiac disease diagnoses right now would be life changing, but it would save you from a lot of future problems. You could be one of the lucky ones who can be diagnosed without suffering symptoms for 11 years before diagnoses. (That is...
  6. It has an excellent fact sheet that should show family members the importance of being screened. (Certainly not my relatives, but maybe some of you have some sane relatives that might take it seriously.) Laura
  7. I have seen a person react from skin contact of gluten. If a person needs to verify a products gluten free status, we should just give the answer. The person will now how they need to avoid the product. Laura
  8. When I do any gluten free baking, I double the batch and freeze portion sized containers. I feel that cuts down on overeating/ binging tendencies for dieters. Laura
  9. Zhender's wants a three day advance notice for gluten free diners.
  10. Lutherans believe that the bread and wine are changed to the body and blood through faith. Their faith in God. Catholics ( so I am told) believe the preist turns it into body and blood. Back to the question... Some chef schools make all students taste test all recipes. So I wouldn't think a Celiac could comply with the class rules. Laura
  11. Lupus, like Celiac is very hard to diagnose. Get a Dr. refferal for a specialist for further testing. There are medications that are prescribed for Lupus patients and a gluten free diet. Do your research on Lupus. Laura
  12. We hate the chicken nuggets and think the fish sticks are just Mrs. Paul's fish sticks. Laura
  13. The Tri-county Celiac Support Group is having a gluten free food fair on April 22, 2006. It will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Farmington from 10:00AM til 2:00 PM. 14. OK I'm planning a vacation to Frankenmuth and the only waterpark information is coming up under Zhender's, but the gluten free menu and bakery is at BAvarian Inn. If you have more recent information that Bavarian Inn opened a waterpark too, can you e-mail me a link. Laura

    ARCHIVED Wendy's

I just let the full fear of gluten into my voice as I wave my hands around saying "NO BUN! NO BUN!" Then I say (I know it's not completely truthfull, but they seem to understand.) "It's and allergy thing, it can't touch the bun." I grew up in an Italian neighborhood, and it's kinda of my impression of that. It makes my kids laugh and the worker's get...

  17. Thanks for letting us know about any place to get a safe meal. The gluten free food fair is scheduled for April 22, 2006. At the church in Novi, MI. Is anyone planning on going? Has anyone tried the gluten free bakery products from Bavarian Inn of Frankenmuth? We are planning a trip there and found out the Bavarian Inn restaurant has a gluten free menu...
  18. I can't believe I am this excited about cereal. Laura
  19. You should get your thyroid checked, by an endocronologist. The thyroid could be enlarged or it could have nodules. Laura
  20. Please check all personal hygeine products. It does really matter how much you scrub everything if you turn around and put a gluten hand lotion on. llipgloss? Cook on fresh aluminun foil till some of that gluten works it way out of the pans. Go back over the list of forbidden ingredients. Keep a food journal. You are new to the diet and it takes time...
  21. I ordered the Glutino pizza from the united buying clubs co-op. They put the new products on sale. They are 25% off this month, 6 packages for 20.39 or 3.40 per box. (sorry someone spilled coffee on the keyboard and the dollar sign won't work) I used a plain kitchen aid mixer for the bread dough - because it is more like a thick cake batter consistency...
  22. I just found the Glutino mac-n-cheese and duo cheese pizza. The mac-n-cheese doesn't look great, but my kids prefer it to Amy's- after just one bite. The pizza is 6.2 ounces, and should be eaten immediately, it has been the best frozen complete pizza we have tried. Amy's whole meal cheese enchilada is our favorite frozen meal. My favorite bread is the...
  23. Off the top of my head I can think of 3 reasons why she could be having mood swings. Vitamin and nutrient defiencies. Being diagnosed with a lifelong condition. There is evidence of wheat having an opiate effect on certain individuals, and going gluten free can be like and addicted person going cold turkey. She may need to be casein free too. With your...
  24. Breastfeeding has a sleepy effect on the mother. Set up your breastfeeding spot. A comfortable seat with back support, a spot for your glass of water, breast pad supply, and anything you might need within arms reach. Good luck, and remember to be patient-with your body and your new little one. Laura
  25. Please read up on breastfeeding or take a class before you give birth (if possible). The nurse that came in and tried to tell me how to breast feed, was nasty. It was better to have her leave, or I was going to kill her. She did not tell me anything helpful and was not a lactation consultant. If the hospital is too busy or understaffed you may be on your...
