  1. A lot of kids have a major growth period. No gaurantees, but my daughter gained a pound in a half at 17 months of age, two months after starting the gluten free diet. That was a major improvement from falling off the growth chart since she was 7 months. Laura
  2. I am so happy for you guys! Get ready to go shopping for the coming growth spurt! Laura
  3. Any illegal pot is not regulated and could be laced with anything. I've witnessed a girl pass out cold after taking 3 hits. You just don't know what it's laced with or cross-contaminated with. Is it really worth the risk? It is a personal decision with possible legal ramifications. Laura

  8. At first I was just really angry thinking that some parent out there would hurt their child so ignorantly. Then I realized, this man can't believe there is anything "wrong" with his perfect daughter that he loves very much. He is just in an early faze of shock. You can get all the gluten free pizza and brownies she wants to eat. Have dad help her with...
  9. Better to get the testing done. If she is Celiac or gluten intolerant, a gluten free diet can spare her so many other problems in the future. Laura
  10. I was looking into milled flax seed, to add more fiber into our diets. It was about the time when the big buzz about Hilary Swank and the movie Million Dollar Baby was in full swing. The trainer said the big "secret" for her training was flax. That her body built muscle more efficiently and it was hard to keep her from losing weight. Made me too nervous...
  11. I recently found this on-line and I think it may help answer some questions you may have. www.enabling.org/ia/celiac/cdf-fas.html It appears to be notes from a confrence taken by Dr. Alessio Fasano. Laura

Has everyone had their thyroids checked? Sleeping or not can be a symptom. Laura
  13. Your bone density has been affected. Your body has been deficient enough in calcium, for it to start demineralization of your bones. That is why an "asymptomatic" symptom is bone pain. Your lucky the damage to your body can stop, before you even noticed symptoms. I know it can seem overwhelming at first. You are changing your lifestyle, by changing your...
  14. About 5% of Americans have an harmless elevated Bilirubin level. They are diagnosed with Gilbert's Disease. Recent research has shown an elevated bilirubin level may help prevent a heart attack. Red blood cells last for about 120 days. The destroyed red blood cell releases bilirubin, a yellowish pigment into the bloodstream. It is then converted by the...
  15. Yep, my daughter went after the dog food too. Wheat withdrawals, or possible pica could have been a reason she was too young to tell me at the time why she was eating it. Laura
  16. Check with the manufacturer. Until every company starts putting the grain source of the ingredient we still have to be wary for barley, rye and oats which are not on the top 8 allergens. Wheat free is not the same as gluten free. The best advice is stick to the brands that have the more informative labels and clear policies on gluten in their products...
  17. Always check with the manufacturer. Maltodextrin can contain gluten, and a lot of people think that if it is an U.S. product it is safe. Well I was reading the label for Hain pure foods Onion soup w/padano cheese and the Mediterranean Soup both list wheat maltodextrin, and Glocuse Syrup (from wheat). {Source of information is the United Natural Foods...
  18. Steph I loved the article! Congratulations! Thank you for mentioning the Celiac. I have showed the article to my daughter, what a great gluten free role model! Laura
  19. O.K. This may sound silly, but I just saw it on a show called Reading Rainbow, eating the pods raw and grinding it. The taste is supposed to vary greatly from raw to ground. If you would care to share the wealth of some of those pods, contact me. I'm very curious to taste them, and I would love to experiment with cooking and baking. Laura
  20. If your family is going to go through the testing they *must* continue to eat gluten containing foods. Try and get the testing done as quickly as possible, so if need be, the gluten free diet can start, and your family doesn't have to suffer any more damage. Laura
  21. Hopefully the average of 11 years for a Celiac to be diagnosed in the U.S. will change soon too. Laura
  22. Sorry this test option didn't work out for you, Vincent. Let's hope that testing will get better for the undiagnosed Celiacs out there. Laura
  23. Mandigirl, If you are a "natural" girl, (Not surgically altered) you don't have an adam's apple. Get your enlarged thyroid/goiter tested. There is definately a higher incidence of auto-immune thyroid disease in Celiacs. Laura
  24. Yep. I felt great pregnant. Gained weight like it was going out of style, without changing my eating habits. If anything I was eating less. Laura
  25. Have you looked into the symptoms of a gall bladder attack? Without more specific information about the rib and back pain I'm not sure if that is what you are describing. Laura
