Hey the BetterBatter website has financial aid applications to help with the expense. It says if you have already qualified for some financial aid it should be pretty easy to qualify for special pricing from them. (I don't know the exact ingredients of the product, so if this doesn't work out maybe other product companies will follow this lead.)

ARCHIVED Between Blood Tests And Biopsy
mommida replied to Mom2Will's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
An endoscopy at this point would be done to completely diagnose Celiac and rule out any other further disorders. Children having an endoscopy are usually put under sedation by gas before any I.V. is started. -
ARCHIVED Celiac Damage Visible To The Naked Eye On Endoscopy?
mommida replied to sarahcf's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Damage can not always be seen by the "naked" eye and at least 5 biopsies should be taken. (and tested for eosinophils too) Your doctor was not very informed about diagnosing Celiac. Constipation is also a symptom of Celiac. -
ARCHIVED Questions
mommida replied to AlanM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
There is a known connection between Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. (A new diagnoses of EE should be screened for Celiac.) Gluten may be the "trigger" for eosninphil production in some individuals. That leads me to believe the individuals immune system is recognizing gluten and sending out an immune system attack. It is a relatively newer diagnoses... -
ARCHIVED Lot Of Questions
mommida replied to kimy's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well you probably don't want to do a gluten challenge to continue with testing. After your gut heals you start to absorb things better. It seems most have to readjust medicine and vitamin levels. Welcome to the board! -
You might need to be checked for Pernicious Anemia. It has a connection to Celiac because it is caused by the gut lining lacking the proper intrinsic factor to process vitamin B12. Iron supplements make me vomit. Foods with a higher iron level make me run for the bathroom too. If there are any other "odd" symptoms you might be forgetting to mention...

ARCHIVED Questions
mommida replied to AlanM's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Well I'm going to throw a wrench in the machine. If gluten is a trigger for Eosinophils, it most certainly does cause damage (auto-immune damage). In the matter of Eosinophilic Esophagitus, eosinophils cause grooving and furrows, Schataki rings, food impaction, and in the case of my daughter vommiting blood. Time will tell the damage gluten... -
Sometimes there are 4H groups that do community service. A local4H group adopted a single mother with cancer. The kids from the group went out to the house fed and cared for the family's animals, secured food and monetary donations, and just stopped by to visit the family and watched the kids for her to rest.

ARCHIVED Question
mommida replied to lichjen's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
just keep in mind, gluten free is all or nothing. Don't think that 'gluten lite" is something to play around with. People who had no symptoms before going gluten free now have reactions. if you experience better health on a gluten free diet, you will never do a gluten challenge for medical testing. Go easy on your wallet and stick to naturally gluten... -

The general mindset is false negatives are more common than false positives for testing. Run your tests and results past the group for more information. -
ARCHIVED I Found Some Great Cookies!
mommida replied to Monklady123's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The pea fiber makes them not safe for my daughter. I would like to try one though. I hope they start to sell nationwide soon. -
ARCHIVED Glutened! Who Was The Culprit?
mommida replied to rabbit24's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From that list you have eaten eggs, soy, and nuts. 3 offerings from the top 8 allergens. Keep a food journal to see if you can track down another intolerance. Keep in mind some reactions can cause damage for 12 days. -
ARCHIVED Advil Liqui-Gels Contain Gluten!
mommida replied to zeeclass6's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I had a coupon for a free bottle of the Advil liquid gels. By the time I had taken the third dose (over a few days) I realized they were making me sick. nothing on the label led me to believe there was gluten. i guess i live too close to the Canadian border! I thought all Advil was safe. -
ARCHIVED Calling On All Veteran Celiac Posters
mommida replied to TTNOGluten's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I have the same symptoms too. I also had my gall bladder removed. I do know of other intolerances that have developed since going gluten free. Pretty easy to figure out lobster makes me vomit. Foods with high iron content give me "D' and cramping. If you figure anything out let me know. I'm sick of doctors treating me like a headtrip and I have... -
ARCHIVED Celiac Vs Intolerance + G6Pd
mommida replied to dani nero's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Thank you for posting that link. I remember years ago someone had said their grandfather seemed to fit Celiac diagnoses. When the grandfather died they did an autopsy, and found damage to the outside of the intestines. Doctors had to rethink the Celiac diagnoses. You should never get the impression that gluten intolerance isn't as serious as Celiac... -

ARCHIVED Claussen Pickles Or Mayo?
mommida replied to Lindseybsmith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You said you are new, so there is a chance you have cross-contaminated mayo. (Good old days of dipping utensil back into jar for alittle extra adds crumbs to the jar) You also could have a sensitivty to eggs. -

ARCHIVED More Susceptible To Viruses?
mommida replied to judyw's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well it could be Leaky Gut causing the contracting of illness. Like Gemini said, Celiac is actually an overactive immune system. Like before I went gluten free I had meningitis. The spinal fluid showed evidence of both viral and bacterial meningitis. The stats for catching meningitis, 1 in 250,000. 1 out of 10 cases are fatal. There is a very good... -
ARCHIVED More Susceptible To Viruses?
mommida replied to judyw's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
The gut needs time to heal. During that time there can be sensitivity to more foods. Especially dairy. When your gut is out of whack, so is your immune system. You can try some pro biotics to get the gut healthier. As a side observation... my 12 year old son just had 5th disease over the summer, it was a LONG time to get over. The symptoms seemed... -
ARCHIVED Pre Diagnosis Help Please!
mommida replied to FireballWhisky's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sorry for the slow response. Sometimes i lose my computer and now the keyboard is jacked. Sorry for the crappy typos. Do you have any more of your endoscopy results? pics? and was there an eosinphil count done? Was the hernia repaired? Some times the testing process just sucks! Doctors are ill informed at best, and when something they don... -
Nope. There were a lot of foods that just missed being a label alert for allergens. What is crappy that pea fiber and starch is used in gluten free specialty foods.

ARCHIVED Think Daughter Has Celiac Disease
mommida replied to caa0827's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I know it's hard when your baby is sick. Please wait on the gluten free diet for the testing. Keep a food journal with the "normal" diet including reaction/mood check. There is a rather long list of illness that presents the same as Celiac symptoms. H. Ployri, parasites, SIBO, Eosinophilic Esophagitus or other EGID, and so on. An upper endoscopy with... -
Yes. Peas cause a lot of problems for my daughter. We were told by the ped. gastro. office nurse there are on of the higher reactive foods for children.
