  1. I would go for testing for Celiac and the auto-immune liver disease associated with it. It seems to be (IMO) a common issue to have abnormal liver tests with Celiac (especially undiagnosed). You have to eat gluten for the testing. Make the appointment as soon as possible. Go through with the testing. If your tests show nothing, I would still try the...
  2. My daughter was having major GI symptoms from eating gluten. "D", vomitting, swollen belly led to her being diagnosed at 17 months old. She needs to be tested. She has a first degree relative diagnosed and she is having GI symptoms. She needs to be eating gluten for the testing.
  3. :D :D :D AWESOME!!! :D :D Have fun shoe shopping!
  4. There is a stage in Hashimotos thyroiditis (normally considered underactive thyroid function) where the thyroid is actually OVER active. As the immune system is attacking the thyroid the thyroid is trying to fight back. This can result in radical changes in your blood tests.

    ARCHIVED Question

have you been tested for Celiac? This does sound like a food is triggerig something. Keep a food journal and see if you can figure it out. The usual food suspects are peas and the top 8 (wheat, fish, shellfish, SOY, peanuts, treenuts, EGGS, MILK (most "allergic' reaction are from the proteins found in foods so saying milk~ casein) Now that symptom is...
  6. Don't forget when your are up and running to contact all the Celiac support groups. Show up at a "gluten free food fair" or run one.
  7. Yes, it gets better! You learn how to manage your diet, and what works for you. it takes some time though. Remember you are healing right now too. Keep a food journal to make sure it isn't some other food intolerance adding to the mix. Congratulations on your upcoming marriage!
  8. It would be funny, until we realize how sad it really is.
  9. The replies seemed kind of snarky. The ingredient list for the Shamrock shake (from the companies wbsite) does not have any gluten ingredient listed. Enjoy at your own risk.
  10. I would ask to be tested for Celiac again. There are unfortunately a lot of uniformed doctors. it is possible that this doctor just did not have the proper training to take the neccessary amount of biopsies. you need to be eating gluten for the tests.
  11. You should probably be reffered to a pediatric gastroenterologist. She should get the Celiac panel run while waiting for the appointment (usually a 3 month wait). She will most likely need an upper endoscopy. These are also symptoms of Eosinophilic Esophagitus. There is now evidence that there is a correlation between Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitus...
  12. make sure you're not blaming the cereal when the ~milk~ might be the problem. Found out the hard way, I just can't have that much milk at one sitting.
  13. Pre-school and school will let you put an emergency birthday cupcake, ice cream, cookie in the staff room freezer. Clearly mark the containers. my kids are very leary of 'safe' food given to them. Put something there as a sure sign it is from home. The teachers know some parents just show up with a birthday treat. (i.e. celebrating a 1/2 birthday when...
  14. Celiac is an auto-immune disease, not an allergy.
  15. Yes a person can have a nutritional defiency without having "D".
  16. Normal everyday folk won't be able to buy the (FB)stock. The said first offerings are going to the houses "members of status". So for me to get a chance to buy it, I would make the 'bigwigs" even more money. i've got to hit on a penny stock somethin.
  17. i am hiding out avoiding the fb too! let's start a conspiracy theory and get others off the fb. They don't realize it, but most of these peeps are addicted. if I could only buy some stock.
  18. You can also supplement Biotin safely.
  19. It is truely sad that Dr. Belknap passed away, I have never heard a negative thing about the man and his patients LOVED him.
  20. Well if you must be a "control freak" go all out. Make all the gluten free meals and snacks with a list of when to eat them. I understand you want to be there for your child to help soften the blow. You are still going to live your own life too. Do what you think will be best, and remember to allow yourself some free time.
  21. I think everyone finds out that your reaction is an individual experience. It does seem that quite a few people feel reactions to accidental gluten exposure after being gluten free is more severe. Symptoms of Celiac and gluten intolerance are quite a long and varied list. This has lead to many misdiagnoses for some people. It might be helpful...

    ARCHIVED First Time Visit

See about tests that can be run. i.e. stool testing for parasites, Celiac panel, Be prepared the doctor will suggest scoping. Ask all the questions you can think of from there. What are you doing the test for? Ruling in or out possible disorders. Keep a food journal with food (intake time & amount/ please list all ingredients), symptoms (time...
  23. I just know that when our kids are feeling "off" we parents go into wtf did I miss on the gluten radar mode and beat ourselves up. My daughter went from gluten free 4 1/2- 5 years healthy, to really sick. It was so close to her usual gluten reaction, I was going crazy looking for "hidden gluten". She was scoped and diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitus...
  24. Lack of vitamin B12 can cause anxiety. Perhaps the glutening damaged her gut where she has become a bit deficient. Are there any outside issues that are stressing her out? Girls this age can be especially cruel.
  25. Most "textbook" cases of EE patients test negative to allergy testing. It is not a true allergy. It is an overactive immune system attacking food "triggers" and damaging the esophagus. Damage may not be limited to just the esophagus. The elimination diet and determining a list of other "trigger" foods has helped manage my daughter's case. She did...
