Did you research what eosinophils are are how damaging they are to normal, healthy tissue? That is 12 days (nearly 2 weeks) of damage happening in your GI track. First thing is to try and stop any more damage from happening and heal. In EoEs in the Esophagus there is a modified Flovent inhaler to put steroids in the esophagus. Keep the food journal...

ARCHIVED Genetic Testing
mommida replied to Glutenfree4LJS's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My husband and I went for some genetic counseling before we had kids. There seemed to be a lot of heart problems in the family, and some blood disorders, some auto-immune diseases. It was a waste of time. There are no pre-answers, we didn't even know about Celiac in the family. (Found out years later when I asked a cousin to tell me all of her deceased... -
There is an amino acid formula. The drink boxes targeted to kids is called Splash. Why these are flavored with artificial sugar is something I will never understand. It is really hard to get enough calories and most at this stage will end up on a feeding tube. (So yes there still options when eating is soo difficult.) It is time to start looking into...

ARCHIVED 2 Yo Recently Diagnosed - Looking For Some Feedback
mommida replied to semily's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
classic presentation + positive blood tests + positive response on the gluten free diet = at least probable Celiac diagnoses since the gluten free diet has already been started, the only test that can be done is a genetic test (which is not failproof or IMO 98% accurate, some patients fall into the known 2% miss) DO NOT do a gluten challenge at this point... -
Congratulations!!!!! Holy moley K8tling you gave birth to a little linebacker!!!!!

ARCHIVED Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein In Hair Care Products

Mothers of very young Celiacs should also use gluten free hygeine products. Cross contamination from skin lotions and such, is too much of a risk. -
ARCHIVED Help - Need Some Advise
mommida replied to aussiechick4jc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Why is sleeping a problem? Insomnia? Try taking some sublingual vitamin B12. Or is it painful to lie down? If your symptoms don't start getting better, and it could take 2 years to feel perfect, you may have to get an endoscopy with biopsy. So keep looking for a doctor that listens to you. -
ARCHIVED Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein In Hair Care Products
mommida replied to kimis's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I avoid it. People really do ingest shampoo standing up in the shower. Some people take the baking soda test. Add baking soda to your shampoo. If you end up tasting the baking soda during the shower, then you know a small amount does get into your mouth for you to ingest. -
It will make it easier if you have some of your favorite treats on hand. Example: suzy's birthday, you have a candy bar, caramel apple, or better yet a frozen decorated cupcake. grab your gluten free treat and go celebrate. You are just going to have to have a safe stash of food on hand. Nothing is worse than being hungry and then someone is eating something...

ARCHIVED Is Glutino Bread Good?
mommida replied to BeFree's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
We are limited to egg free Glutino items. We have been very happy with the products we can have that are egg free. It is getting easier to find them too! -
If gluten is your "trigger" for eosinophilic esophagitus, it would be a sign you are still getting gluten. My daughter was diagnosed with EE when she was 6 years old and "probable" Celiac when she was 17 months old. I think there is a connection between the Eosinophilic gastro disorders and Celiac. Eosinophils are white blood cells that are primarily...

mommida replied to aussiechick4jc's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The rule of thumb, once a Celiac, always a Celiac. How were you tested for Celiac? You should not go gluten free until all Celiac testing is completed. Did you ever have your thyroid checked? Allergy testing? Start keeping a food journal. -
ARCHIVED Amazing Las Vegas Trip!
mommida replied to WinterSong's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Thanks for sharing your experience. I would have been too afraid to try Asian, thinking cross-contaminated soy sauce everywhere. One of these days I might make it out to Vegas. (I don't really like to gamble.) Casinos in Michigan know how to pamper and provide service. Soaring Eagle resort went beyond my expectations. We bought a package that included... -
ARCHIVED Endo Question
mommida replied to millersinkenya's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I can't say for certain, because it needs to be tested for and diagnosed by a pathologist. (Make sure the biopsies are being tested for eosinophils. If the test isn't ordered ~ it won't be done.) It looks like possible embbed eosinophils. Our family's experience and endoscopy pictures were very vivid showing all aspects of the symptoms. I have only ... -

ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital
mommida replied to Mommy2GlutenFreeChild's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Auto-immune disease, we just don't have "normal" immune systems. He may have had the MMR vaccine, but didn't gain the immunity to fight the illness. It is not as common as it once was and pediatricians don't recognize it. My 12 year old son must have had 5th disease all summer long. Diagnosed with swimmer's ear at the doctor's office. When the gi distress... -
ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital

That is the way I meant it. Thank you for making it clearer. In acute illness, the TSH count can elevate. This usually resolves when the patient gets better. -

My sister and I would stay up until the wee hours of the morning making baked goods and watching old movies. Some were pretty cheesy about the way they went about far east and indian accents. So at about 3 AM we just slap happy. Just one of the words that stuck. mom mie dah not really mom mida -
ARCHIVED Child Back In Hospital
mommida replied to Mommy2GlutenFreeChild's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Did they examine your child's nose to see if there was a sore or absess that is causing the nosebleeds? When I was younger my nose was cauterized from having continous nosebleeds from a sore area that would not heal. Elevated lymphacite count = viral infection During the body's fight the thyroid gets a call to action, that can explain the elevated TSH... -

I think there was some research out in the last year and a half - 2 years that there is an association to TB. Glad the doctor picked up on it, even if he felt it was a long shot. Here's wishing you and your little one a speedy recovery. ((HUGS)) -

I hope our original poster is doing well! Maybe Celiacs just know they have to listen to gut instincts. This co-worker of my husbands just made my skin crawl. Nicest person, above and beyond acting like a gentelman. Not the slightest bit close to being labeled as "socially akward". Married. Wife was just as pleasant. Just couldn't shake the feeling... -

OOOOPS! This thread is so old. Some cost saving advice from the past now longer are options. The co-op I was in doesn't operate anymore. ARCHIVED Gerd Vs. Celiac
mommida replied to Duhlina's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You do not need to have the genetic test done. You have a positive biopsy result. Start the diet, so you can heal. You would only be tested for the "known" to be associated with Celiac genes. There is also an admitted 2% MISS rate. Insurance may not cover all the expense of the test.
