ARCHIVED Super Sensitive And Lactose Intolerant.....lots Of Questions
mommida replied to USF1970's topic in Super Sensitive People
We had to do a very eliminated diet for a while. Like mentioned before, NUTS. Nuts made into spreads, milk, and snack foods. One of the things that made up for a lot of things... hummus. We used it as a dip, spreadable cheese on sandwiches. Rethink fruits and vegetables. Grill them. Roast them. Make salsas. Avacados can be decent replacements... -
ARCHIVED May Have Found A Huge Answer...but Still Confused (Possible Dairy Allergy)
mommida replied to zebaldwin's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Usually with a reaction (intolerance) it is to the protein. The protein chain in dairy is casein. Maybe you notice the reaction to the amount of what you have ingested. My daughter was starting to be reffered to a nuerologist for the possibility of abdominal migraines. You mentioned you had been to nuerologists, but was it ever discussed as a possiblity... -
ARCHIVED Family Says I'm Paranoid And Should Go Back To Eating Gluten
mommida replied to llama3's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
First ((HUGS)) It is not uncommon to have other food intolerances. Unfortunately allergy testing can't always show that food intolerances are tripping the switch for your immune system to go haywire. You might have to figure some of these things out for yourself. The best tool for this is an elimination diet (of the top 8, peas, andany of your suspected... -
ARCHIVED Should I Call Doctor?
mommida replied to GFSAHmom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Start any kind of probiotic for his gut. 5 days of "D" his tummy balance is surely out of sorts. BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, applesuace, and gluten free toast. Any type of electrolyte drinks (watch out for too high of sugar level but I don't believe in articial sugar (aspartme at all). Probiotics any way you can start them like yogurt or chew tabs for... -
ARCHIVED Funny Conversation At Health Food Store!
mommida replied to adab8ca's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm going to play devil's advocate and say... Maybe she meant that you know for a fact the wheat/gluten is harmful. She sells "health food" to people who are adding extra wheat (whole grain) to their diets to be "healthy". I'm sure the owner of the store would not be happy to hear she was telling people not to buy more than half of the products sold... -
Thanks for the link.

ARCHIVED Could It Be?
mommida replied to Carolmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
She is so close to testing day, pray for accurate results! I still have to worry about my son getting drafted someday. It would be such a horrible experience to be put into service and have no control over your diet, because there is no official diagnoses for him. ( household was gluten free because of my daughter's diagnoses before he could be tested... -
We have Holland Lops and it is a constant concern about the feed. I'm not sure if rye grass is any safer.

Sadly, I do suggest all at one time. Please realize you are very lucky to find out what not to give your child by one simple test. Others have had to do full elimination diets and find out through a challenge what the allergens are. Some brands of products help with more allergen free diets. The cravings place Enjoy Life Read all the labels of...

ARCHIVED Question About Triggers
mommida replied to kvanrens1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
She made a full recovery after the illness with red cheeks? Has tested showed the adrenals are functioning properly? When you said testing was negative for Celiac, did that mean she had an endoscopy with biopsy? Stress and any type of illness (most often associated to viral infection) can be triggers. Some say the cold virus can trigger Diebetes... -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Yesterday.
mommida replied to KeegMiles's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
3 years experience with EE and constipation is still a major issue. (She takes daily fiber tablets.) I do just want to give you a heads up on the constipation/ Urinary tract/ bladder infection perfect storm. The constipation can make it hard to completely empty the bladder. You can notice the urge and pressure to urinate. So the patient can start to... -
ARCHIVED Increased Hair Loss After Starting Gluten Free Diet
mommida replied to jasmine75's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My hair has thinned a lot! If I get accidentally gluten it falls out. What has helped is to take a multivitamin and extra Biotin and B12. (There is no evidence to say too much of these will cause an adverse affect.) I usually walk around with new growth all over my head that makes me look like a molting bird. -
ARCHIVED Endoscopy Yesterday.
mommida replied to KeegMiles's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter has both Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitus. The Celiac was diagnosed when she was 17 months old and the EE was diagnosed when she was 6. She is 9 years old now. Going through an elimination diet helped identify her "triggers" and she manages EE by diet alone. When she was first diagnosed she was on Previcid and a modified steroid inhaler... -

ARCHIVED Cyclical Vomiting, Proctaearslgia Fugax- After Being gluten-free For 3 Years
mommida replied to anniebeth's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Sometimes people just get another problem to deal with after Celiac. My daughter did great gluten free from 17 months old (diagnosed probable Celiac) until she turned 6. Some nasty virus went around. She started vommiting blood. At the hospital they down played it and just treated her for the dehydration. The same month she turned 6 she just started... -
ARCHIVED Could It Be?
mommida replied to Carolmom3's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Try to get an appointment asap. You really need the endoscopy with biopsy to really find out what is going on in the digestive track. If you are gluten free before testing for Celiac, you are wasting your time. The test only picks up on the damage caused from eating gluten. The symptoms can also be present for many other disorders/diseases. Gluten... -
ARCHIVED Acne From Gluten?
mommida replied to CeliacFashionista's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
A vitamin defiency can also cause acne. Some cases of (I believe)zinc defiency cause the acne to be specifically around the mouth. It could be as simple as drinking more water for the missing zinc levels. Try to take a gluten free daily supplement. I went to a dermatologist which promptly put me on antibiotics for acne outbreak around my mouth. He... -
ARCHIVED Toddler, Should I Do The Endoscopy?
mommida replied to rachelh4207's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I do think it would be pointless getting the scope done without eating gluten. Especially when Celiac is your top suspect. I don't argue with peeps when they say breathing in gluten made them sick. How much gluten will make a person sick? The amount that your body recognizes it and sets your immune system out to attack it. -
ARCHIVED Toddler, Should I Do The Endoscopy?
mommida replied to rachelh4207's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Shroomie said it very well. I just want to make sure it is clear... If you do the endoscopy she must be eating gluten! Gluten can be a "trigger" for other disorders too. A gluten challenge can be very dangerous, watch for signs of dehydration. In fact have a dehydration symptom check list on hand. Honestly I feel a gluten challenge is more of... -
ARCHIVED Good News, Bad News.......
mommida replied to MomGoneRunning's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I just hope this doctor isn't running around trying to say he "cured" her Celiac or Eosinophilic Esophagitus. She really wanted to try eggs to see if she could have them. Well she can't and the damage caused food to get trapped in her throat. I am pretty sure we know what her "triggers" are. Just managing accidental exposure activates eosinophils... -
A deep bow would just take the sport out of sticking my foot up his or her arse!

I suggest Biotin and a daily multivitamin daily. A natural source for Biotin would be to eat liver. Most American diets are severely lacking Biotin.

You have to eat gluten to go through testing.
