  1. Celiac/gluten sensitivity/intolerance and DH can damage the gut lining and there is a known connection to Pernicious anemia. If you are having and issue with B12 being absorbed it could be a side affect from a gluten issue. It would be best to get medical testing to see if and how low your B12 level is. The doctor can give you an injection. Sublingual...
  2. Here's some history. It is believed to be the "wasting away" disease described in the Bible. The cure was discovered through the starving children of Belgum during the war. Children who had been diagnosed as failure to thrive, became "healthier" when they were STARVING. This lead to the conection ~it was food related. They usually just left the person...
  3. If you are already gluten free, don't bother going for a blood test. Having a B12 defiency can be very common. Most gluten containing processed foods are fortified to have more vitamins and minerals. (most gluten free procesed products are not..Yet) The point is somehow your are not consuming enough or your gut is not absorbing enough. There is also...
  4. We had issues with the genetic testing. My daughter tested positive for DQ2 and DQ8. I tested negative for any of the known Celiac genes. Hmmm. Asked Prometheus labs how this could be possible. Well their answer... You could have the unknown Celiac genes ~ or the at least 2% that the test is going to miss, Genes mutate, and at least a 30% error rate for...
  5. If you have been avoiding oats for a long time, you may have to build a tolerance to them again. The suggested amount is very small, just under 3 Tablespoons for your first challenge. Then increase the amount slowly. Some Celiacs can not tolerate oats at all because the protein chain is too similar to gluten.
  6. Ugh. I don't have time to look up enough info. to tell you what to look for to see about Pernicious anemia diagnoses. But you better start looking into Eosinophilic gastro intestinal issues. (this also needs to have biopsies taken because "normal" looking areas can have Eosinophils imbedded) Hang in there MOM!
  7. Well welcome to the forum! :D
  8. OOps all the comments are inter mingled to your original post!
  9. That does sound yummy! Could your mix be used for a "crumble" topping?
  10. An endoscopy with biopsy can rule out or diagnose many different things that have similar symptoms to Celiac. Celiac congenital deformity parasites H.Ployri hernia Eosinophilic Esophagitus This is just a short list and it is possible to have more than one issue going on. If Celiac is diagnosed you can get an idea of what amount of...
  11. I hope your testing is soon! I do know that drinking Slurpees can ease some of the throat discomfort of EoE. Feel better soon!
  12. You may be the person to develop the best gluten free food ever. Your love of cooking and entertaining does not need to end, just needs to be allergen safe. Hate to say it, this isn't that bad.
  13. Well back to the sankebite theory. Snakes have weaker venom in fall after biting things all spring and summer long. The venom is most lethal in spring, when the snake wakes from hibernation. So you are weakening your immune system by constant exposure. Remember that eosinophils, once activated, stay active for 12 days. Eosinophils can be active in...
  14. Stu, I swear I would have been in more competant and caring hands if the maintenance man had helped me deliver my first child! Rather than the wretched nurse who went on a 3 hour tour (Gilligan's Island style) so I missed any pain management with a 8lb 5oz. 22inch long baby, sunny side up, who decided halfway out~ he didn't want to come out ~so he held...
  15. That's just what I was told by the doctor. Honestly, I have one of the worst track records for meeting CRAZY doctors. (and that is the nicest way I can say it)
  16. If the twitching is in your lower abdomen, a little more to your right~ it is a "spastic colon". Or at least that is what I was told when I went to the doctor's for it. Then the doctor slapped on the old IBS diagnoses.
  17. My daughter just had a weird virus(?) this January too. One day she was complaining of sore throat no fever, next day no voice 97 degrees (not really considered a fever), by day 4 full blown pnemonia! then the freaky rash started. little squiggly lines under her skin like blood vessels. Then the rash went to litle blotches. It did not go into "puss points...
  18. For some people there is an opiate affect on the brain. To ease some of the headache pain. Vitamin supplemented water (smartwater), sublingual vitamin B12, deep breathing as if you were smoking a cigarette, and slowly stretching your neck and shoulders. Use the mantra. Remember what it feels like not to have a headache. If the headache is still...
  19. It seems newly diagnosed can get a recheck on blood tests at 6 months. If the patient is doing well just a yearly check.
  20. Glad to hear he is doing better!
  21. I see other posters have jumped in to answer questions. (I should have told you how wonderful everyone is here!) The white lines of the finger nails are called Muehrcke's lines. Definately a sign of significant illness from Jan. Working with an infectious disease doctor isn't such a bad idea. Now you are stuck with sorting out the details of what symptom...
  22. Has your child had a fever with the "?viral?" infection? Can you just do a quick check of the tongue? Finger nails? any horizontal grooves or white lines? Would you feel comfortable posting a picture of the rash? People who have DH would be able to tell you if that is similar to theirs. (My son recently had 5th disease when he was 12 and...
  23. Do not start a gluten free diet for her until testing is done. To keep some sanity, keep a food journal (it looks like you have started doing that). Keep the amounts of food, time consumed, and BM reactions with any other symptoms.
  24. My daughter definately had some symptoms at birth. She was breastfedthings were fine. 2 days old she needed to be hospitalized for jaundice. Doctor told me to stop breasfeeding and ordered hypoallergenic formula. The hypogenic formula was projectile vomited. Back to only breastfed. Problems really started when she started to add baby cereal. She did...
  25. I'm a bit too far away to help you much. I would definately check on some of the colleges. I think the colleges are starting to be more aware of the diet issues. I do have to run out to Fowlerville this weekend. I have heard there is nothing there but farms and fields. This might be like the movie Field of Dreams because I have to find a baseball...
