ARCHIVED Should I Use Enterolab To Test 18 Month Old?
mommida replied to CantEvenEatRice's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I don't have experience with enterolab. The tests are not very accurate for a child 18 months. Your child should be screened because you are a diagnosed Celiac and you are noticing symptoms. The eczema and the "nagging feeling" along with croup, colds, and "D" are possibly symptoms. The pediatrician's office probably thought I was crazy. I would bring... -
Unless you are into hurting yourself you probably won't consume gluten to go through testing. A gluten challenge can be dangerous. My opinion is the testing is not accurate enough to prolong the damage gluten is doing to your body. Just stay on the gluten free diet and say you are gluten intolerant. L.

ARCHIVED New Here...5 Y/o May Have Celiac?
mommida replied to Jenybeen's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I just wanted to add to TCA's post, that the testing for Celiac can be inconclusive. My testing as an adult - was all negative from the doctor's opinion of my tests. You need to ask for all of the tests listed, print out the list and take it with you. Even if the tests come back negative - put him on the gluten free diet AFTER the testing has been completed... -

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In On My 2 Kids, Feeling Overwhelmed Right Now
mommida replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think a good thorough cleaning will be enough. The bread maker I had was very easy to clean, that is why I say that. I just bake the bread in the oven because some of the recipes require mixing for a longer time period and the consistency is like a thick cake batter. I love the Bette Hagman French bread recipe! It is perfect right from the oven, but... -

I would wait a while before even trying the bread. It is way better toasted or grilled. Give yourselves time to forget what normal bread is like before you try gluten-free CF replacement stuff. We like the Chebe bread mixes. L. -

ARCHIVED Enterolab Results In On My 2 Kids, Feeling Overwhelmed Right Now
mommida replied to Sarah8793's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Yes, you bring your own cake and ice cream. With kids you have to bring a safe favorite type of candy and snack food too. It is best to pack an assortment that your kids can pick out the replacement. You have to trade them for all the forbidden foods they get handed to them. Call ahead and find out the menu so you can make a similar meal. The really... -

ARCHIVED Shocking Story
mommida replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My best friend's mom was accused of causing my friend's unexpained illness. It was during the many appointments and tests she was having done. She was being tested for Celiac at the time and was later diagnosed with Lupus. If her diagnoses hadn't come when it did, if the doctor had been more insistent, the accusation was all ready made what could the situation... -
ARCHIVED Shocking Story
mommida replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There was a case mentioned in Danna Korn's book, Kids with Celiac Disease, where an undiagnosed child was removed from the parents. The child's symptoms were the same in the foster home and then testing was done to diagnose Celiac. (Don't panic - it took two years to get the child back into their home. No one in that scenario knew about Celiac, so half... -
ARCHIVED Are Frequent Bloody Noses A Symptom?
mommida replied to azmom3's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When I was sixteen I was getting nosebleeds about twice a day. Didn't have bad allergies and wasn't picking. There was some type of sore that wouldn't heal. I ended up getting it cauterized (yikes). It is common to get sores in the mouth from celiac disease vitamin def. so I don't see why it wouldn't be a connection. L. -

Yes that is possible to have a withdrawal headache. If she has a fever, headache worsens or does not go away, or is sensitive to light she should seek medical attention at an emergency room. L. PS I just noticed you said it has been days she should seek medical advice. -

ARCHIVED Mi-del Oreo Like Cookies......
mommida replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I tried those, and did not like them. Try the K-toos by Kinniknick, gluten eaters can't tell the difference between them and oreos. They are prone to falling apart easy, and must be stored sealed air tight. L. -
ARCHIVED How Soon After Starting A Gluten Free Diet...
mommida replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You didn't say how old. I think that will make a difference. My daughter was about 17 months and gained a pound the first month and a half. She gained three pounds by the next appointment she had, I think it was about 2 or 3 months after that. So her gain was about a pound a month. L. -
You could be going through withdrawal. On the bright side what are you craving? We will tell you what is the best gluten free replacement for your jonesing. L.
