  1. My pet peeve, every time I use the old "I'm allergic to wheat" that's when I find another Celiac is in the room. L.
  2. I have the grooves too. It is caused by vitamin and mineral defiency. If I remember right it is the B vitamins. You can also get white spots and the nails can flatten on the nailbed and curve under at the free edge (iron defiency). Watch your diet and get exercise. If you have circulatory problems that will affect your nails too. L.

  6. You can't push (for lack of a better word) any child to potty train. You are there for guidance, support, and praise. The rest is up to your child. Your child will be able to control a BM once his body heals and he is not having gluten reactions. Welcome to parenthood, sometimes you are just there for the ride. L.

You chances for getting any accurate testing ends when you start the gluten free diet.   9. She could have Celiac or gluten intolerance. The symptoms vary so much from person to person. Get the blood tests see how they turn out. If you want to try an elimination diet after testing is done, a gluten free diet is not harmful. L.

  12. Get a copy of the forbidden list. Get a copy of the safe list, when you locate a product that should be safe double check the label for forbidden ingredients. Kraft, McCormick's, and other companies will not hide gluten on their labels under things like modified food starch or malt. You may have to call companies to verify what modified food starch means...

  14. Hair growth has three phases, rest, growth, and falling out. Most of the time the individual hair follicles following this pattern are scattered over (the head) and the pattern is not that noticable. If the body has all the hair growth restarted at the same time it is very noticeable. Give it some time and maybe try a shorter style for right now. L.

  19. All the brands I knew of that are gluten free people all ready listed. I looked up recipes for BBq sauce at www.epicurious.com and it is really easy to make your own. I thought it tasted better too. L.
  20. Bel Cibo carries some of the Celiac Specialty baked goods. Save yourself the drive, and call Bel Cibos and see if you can put an order in for some baked goods you want. I think the drive out to Chesterfield might be too far (especially during rush hour). L.

  23. Well your child's reactions are just that - they are unique to the individual. What you noticed is most likely her reaction to that very amount of gluten. She said her tummy hurt and that is about all you can really go on when you are the parent watching. Try and be prepared for the worst case scenario, I try and carry a change of clothes and sickness...

  25. It was thought that children "outgrew" Celiac; but we know now that once a Celiac, ALWAYS a Celiac. Some people do say that gastrointestinal reactions have varied, to the point they don't notice any symptoms. A biopsy of the intestine proves that damage is being done with or without symptoms.
