ARCHIVED 11 Year Old Son Recently Diagnosed
mommida replied to Confused in Iowa's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What you are going through is normal. You realize this is a life changing diagnoses. We have been through feeling like this once upon a time. I think you should try and grill or toast the gluten free breads. I also suggest Kinniknick for a pre-made bread, and Chebe bread for a make at home mix. L. -

Hi, I suggest the book by Danna Korn, Kids with Celiac Disease. It touches all the bases of things you will encounter. It has a quick reference section in the back about contacting companies and organizations. Everyone wants to know how much is too much, if the body's immune system detects it - it starts damaging itselfs. ( one crumb) Probiotics can... -

ARCHIVED Really Need Help
mommida replied to gary's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
You really have to watch everything. I made myself sick from not checking my lip gloss. I really didn't think that deodorant could have possibly been a problem, then I switched to a gluten free brand - just in case. I felt so much better in a few weeks, I think it really was a part of the tiredness and headaches. So just watch all of your hygeine products... -
I have seen a toddler break out after being near playdoh that has gluten in it. (On more than one occasion.) It is possible to have a contact "allergy" to gluten or wheat. L.

ARCHIVED Dermatitis H
mommida replied to mari-lyn's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
It could be. You should be screened because of the family history. Some people have said Vic's vapor rub is better for athlete's foot than the Lotromin products. L. -
ARCHIVED Scalp Folliculitis... My ***!
mommida replied to brizzo's topic in Dermatitis Herpetiformis
I pm'ed you a few minutes ago. I forgot to add that Celiac Disease can cause hyperkeratosis folliculitis. It is the thickening of the skin that causes the pores to get get blocked so it very much like a pimple- so it would clear up with tetracycline. It is caused by the inablity to digest fats. L. -

Mesquite is edible from the tree in its pod. It can then be dried and then ground into a flour. It would also be edible in a paste form. It is suggested to only substitue 1/4 of the flour with mesquite flour. The taste is also variable from sweet to spicey. L.

I have been making a gluten free sponge cake from the passover recipe on the Manaschevitz potato starch box. I have been replacing the potato starch with cocoa for a chocolate sponge cake. I alternate layers of sponge cake and white chocolate and chocolate mousse/ because of the way I make it is better described as ganache. The Emeril flourless chocolate...

ON TOPIC Like some one mentioned there are helpful diet changes for diabetes management and possible prevention. I am currently looking into mesquite. Grows like a weed tree in the south west, has sustained life of people of the region, and been shown to control blood sugar levels. For doctors not to suggest a a diet change for people in a pre-diabetic...

ARCHIVED Shocking Story #2
mommida replied to concerned-mom061's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When my daughter was first diagnosed, we were told to buy a book, come to this website, and find a support group. (The hospital dietician cancelled the appointment we had and said that was all she could suggest for us.) The book, Danna Korn's Kids with Celiac, had a paragraph on a child that was taken from the parent's custody, put into foster care, and... -

ARCHIVED Shocking Story
mommida replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
There is a statistic, on average it can take 11 years for a diagnoses of Celiac Disease in the US. That may be very helpful in determining how this situation has gotten so out of control. There was also a post (by celiac3270 I think) of a poll of doctors about Celiac disease that showed doctors are ignorant of symptoms and generally misinformed. L. Oh... -
ARCHIVED Can Kids Go Nuts When Gluten Removed?
mommida replied to Mia H's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I think the earliest you would be able to tell if the gluten-free diet is helping would be four to 5 months. The best thing to do with kids is carry all the safe treats with you. All these offers of treats (sometimes for a reward for great behaviour) can be traded for the safe ones, and the diet doesn't seem like punishment. L. -

ARCHIVED Can Kids Go Nuts When Gluten Removed?
mommida replied to Mia H's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You can find articles here at celiac.com that show gluten and casein have an opiate effect. (That is opium like heroin and) So if this is an individual that has been having this affect you are making them break an addiction. Withdrawal symptoms were very highly connected to children introduced to the gluten-free cf diet as a treatment for autism. L... -

Have you checked all your hygeine products? You must check all your lip gloss/stick. Have you been kissing anyone? Believe it or not, you can be cross-contaminated very easy from your loved ones. When I first went gluten free I was sensitive to annatto, vinegar, and vanilla. Keep a food diary, because you may have sensitivity to other foods. I am now... -

ARCHIVED Shocking Story
mommida replied to Gcbec's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
This topic was on Montel Williams show today. It may have a link to some legal support on the show's web site. I saw at least two families where children were removed from the parents custody because of their children symptoms of medical conditions. (I could not watch the entire show because it made me want to puke! I thought of Cindy as I watched this... -
ARCHIVED So Frustrated...
mommida replied to andersonfam06's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Call your pediatrician's office! NOW. The doctor you normally deal with, hopefully knows you better and can get you through some of the red tape of the hospital. Explain that you feel your child is now showing NEW symptoms (the balance problem would seem to be nuerological) along with the extremely high fever. L.
