  1. I love the K-innik-TOOS! I just wanted to add (since you are a monty Python fan and all) watch the kissing! You can get glutened by lipstick or lipgloss. L.
  2. I'm not familiar with the saliva test to answer your question properly. Depending on your insurance and your doctor, genetic testing may be covered. My Celiac testing was a series of errors by an ignorant doctor. My daughter's gluten challenge ended when she was hospitalized for dehydration. We are not officially diagnosed according to the doctors we...
  3. Congratulations! Thank you for educating 30 more people! L.
  4. If a gluten challenge is not acceptable for you, try genetic testing or go gluten free without the diagnoses. L. (Gluten challenges can be dangerous, and some doctors do not advise this practice.)
  5. A lot of Celiacs are sensitive to the distilled vinegar, check with her. (not that it has gluten in it just some people are sensitive) By some parchment paper and aluminum foil to cover your normal cooking/prep. surfaces, instead of buying something new. No iron skillet cooking please. Pamela's baking mix makes great pancakes, but do not pour it - lift...
  6. There is no excuse for knowingly trying to get a Celiac to eat gluten. There is gluten free cheesecake. Wouldn't a person want their last days to be as pain free as possible? L.
  7. Explain it to the 13 year-old. My sister-in-law basically did the same thing. I kept my mouth shut after the first mention of family screening when I saw symptoms. Then when he had to rush off to the bathroom, I decided he should make the decision himself. We talked about it right there in front of his mother and I told him about the testing, and where...
  8. I would describe my son's as a very large clay colored BRICK. That clogs the toilet so..... Stop now because this is waaay to much information! We have to remove from the throne (heavily gloved and plastic bagged) solid as a rock. L.
  9. I agree with both of the previous posts. I would like to add, after the testing is done -especially if the testing is inconclusive- please try the gluten free diet. The body's reaction to the diet can be the most positive test result. A book by Danna Korn, Kids with Celiac Disease, may be helpful to you through testing and early diagnoses and adjusting...
  10. It sounds like you are having vitamin deficient symptoms again. Magnesium needs to have Calcium to absorb properly. Some people here swear by liquid vitamin supplements. Are you on a thyroid medication? The dosage may need to be adjusted for the hopefully healed gut absorbing more. I had to drop my dosage down in the first year of gluten free. If...
  11. The article that just made headlines recently about the family that decided to have their stomachs removed because of genetic testing never mentioned what genes were involved did they? L.
  12. I admire your determination. On the behalf of parents with children on restricted diets, or anyone with restricted diets that can't find 30 minutes to stay on hold, THANK YOU!! Thank you for your input and research that you share with the forum. You have helped so much. L.
  13. I have read studies that say a gluten free diet could help Lupus and many other auto-immune diseases. L.
  14. The ped gastro had asked us if we would participate in further genetic studies, we said yes. We have not been called for any further study. We are in the pattern. My daughter tested positive for both DQ2 and DQ8. My genetic test was negative, but my daughter and I both react the same for gluten ingestion. My symptoms were silent before my pregnancy for...
  15. During pregnancy the "H" was an issue and a trip to the chiropracter worked wonders. L.
  16. wow! That could save a lot of $$. Is it just rice flour, or is it a blend? L.
  17. I don't reccomend a gluten challenge for any one. If you have further concerns about diagnoses, you could consider a genetic testing. Doctors still will not take that as an official diagnoses, but combining those results with the dietary response most will consider a gluten free diet the best course for you. L.
  18. Check out everything you can. Do what you need to do to make sure she has the best school experience she can. The teacher might want more information too. L.
  19. There are no stupid questions here. We have to make sure we eliminate gluten from whatever sources may cause problems for us. It's better to ask than make yourself sick. I would also make sure you find a thimerisol free contact solution. L.
  20. A gluten challenge can be very risky and a lot of specialist are against the practice. You are dealing with even more risk invoving different medications. (My daughter ended up being hopsitalized for dehydration attempting the gluten challenge.) Some members of the forum have reported some difficulties with insurance coverage after getting diagnosed with...
  21. We were in the same position you are in. We tried the gluten challenge. My daughter ended up being hospitalized for dehydration. I stopped the challenge at that point and then genetic testing proved my daughter has two Celiac genes. We now have the diagnoses of "probable Celiac Disease". Schools do not want to deal with any such issues. You tell them...
  22. I threw out the toaster and still haven't bought a new one yet. That's over two and a half years. I really don't care much for gluten free bread. I grill it on the stove or toast it in the oven for the rare times when I do eat it. Everyone has given you great advice all ready. L.

    ARCHIVED Fiance

Don't waste your time having the endoscopy with biopsy. You've been gluten free and it would be pointless looking for damage that should not be happening. It might be there from eating out so much. If you would have children and they have Celiac what would your spouse do about it? Having to be on a gluten free diet is such a large part of your life, if...
  24. The bread mixes I like are the Chebe bread (better for people with more sensitivities) and Manna from Anna ( had to adjust to the bean flour though ) L.
  25. There are a lot of us from Mi. I'm a little further north than the Palace. We have been finding more diagnosed Celiacs every where we go. The lady at the party store, people at my husband's work, people at church and school there's Celiacs every where. A nice place for you to start if it's close enough for you, is Belcibo. www.belcibo.com it is in Clawson...
